2020 Jeep Wrangler Problems

When driving down the road, 55mph, I drove across some bumps in the road, and my steering, tires and the front of my Jeep started shaking violently. Couldn't hardly control it. Please help.

These new Jeep Wrangles came from the factory with an aluminum steering box and Jeep has made 8 new steering boxes to try to fix the "wondering" steering issue but has not made any recalls. This is a safety issue because while driving down the road if you hit the smallest of bumps the Jeep will be sent into oncoming traffic in cases. They are impossible to drive on little 2 lane roads that has a lot of semi traffic as the semis naturally put low spots on the edge of the road and cause the Jeep to jolt to the right if you don't have death grip on the steering wheel. Something needs to be done to keep Jeep accountable for yet again putting these Wrangles on the road with steering issues.

Pending an inspection by an independent mechanic. The 2.0L Turbo engine suffers from premature failures. Jeep issued a TSB over leaking around the water pump, but did not notify owners. My engine overheated due to low coolant (there's no low coolant warning), and the temperature gauge proves to be unreliable. My engine suffered a head gasket failure due to overheating, while within the factory warranty period, and Jeep would not honor their warranty. My Jeep only has 33,700 miles on it, and the failure initially happened in 2024. I spent over a year going back and forth with Jeep, and in the end, they simply stopped responding. BTW, tried to upload 2 small .JPG files, but repeatedly said "upload failed".

At approximately 58,000 miles I discovered that the rear upper coil spring mounts on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Rubicon are separating from the frame. The factory welds attaching the upper coil perches to the frame rails have cracked and torn, and the mounts are no longer securely attached. I found this condition only incidentally, while inspecting the vehicle for a separate ongoing steering issue. The coil mount separation was not what I was looking for, and I would not have found it otherwise. These mounts carry the rear vehicle load. If one separates completely, the coil spring can unseat and the rear of the vehicle can drop on that corner, causing loss of ride height, brake line displacement, and loss of vehicle control. I consider this an imminent safety hazard and I have stopped driving the vehicle. The fracture surfaces are heavily rusted, indicating the welds failed a considerable time before I discovered the condition, most likely years earlier and within the warranty period. The vehicle was taken to Jeep dealers for service and inspection multiple times during that period, and no Jeep inspection ever identified or reported this failure.

While driving on the highway, the check engine light illuminated. Approximately 5 to 10 minutes later, the battery warning light came on. Upon exiting the highway and coming to a stop at an intersection, the automatic engine Start/Stop system engaged and shut down the engine. When attempting to safely proceed, the vehicle suffered a complete electrical failure due to the 48V mild-hybrid eTorque system failing to restart the engine. The vehicle refused to crank, would not shift, and became entirely disabled and stranded in the middle of a live intersection, creating an extreme safety and collision hazard. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership, where technicians officially confirmed the failure. The dealer diagnosed the root cause as an internal electrical failure of the Motor Generator Unit (MGU / Belt-Driven Hybrid Starter Generator Assembly), which completely disabled the vehicle's charging and hybrid restart capabilities. The failed component is available for inspection.

Transmission pops out of second gear after downshifting from third. This has left me stranded in the middle of an intersection in front of oncoming traffic at least five times while struggling to get the vehicle back into second gear. This is a widely reported problem with the 2020 JL model that dealers are attempting to write-off as a transmission failsafe to avoid repairing.

Absolutely terrible gasoline vapor filling the inside cabin of the vehicle causing burning eyes, nausea and feeing ill. Checked for fuel, leak, leakage recall, while there was one it wasn’t including our VIN, however, after inspection and repair, it is the exact same damage as what was indicated in the recall. Looking for a full refund for repair and compensation for danger, discomfort, safety and inconvenience of vehicle not being included in the original recall. I am appalled and insulted that JEEP dealerships aren’t more more proactive in having to appeal these dangerous situations.

The attachment for the rear defrost failed. The wiring for the rear defrost was poorly attached (bad glue?) to the back window. With the lack of trunk, jeeps end up with lots of moisture spraying onto the back window and freezing. This poor design causes a hazard by limiting visibility to solely the side mirrors.

The driver and passenger side sunvisors have both failed. The piece that holds the visor in place is apparently plastic and breaks easily, causing the visor to malfunction. This sounds minor, but not in winter when the sun is low on the horizon and blinding to the driver. The first visor I replaced was in 2021 (on a 2020 jeep). You have to replace the entire assembly (not just the part). Both sides have failed repeatedly. After driving around for months with the visors bungee corded up, to keep them from hanging and flopping around, I have now had my mechanic install after market brackets. This is a well known problem among mechanics that work on newer Jeeps. This may sound minor, but I do feel its an accident waiting to happen when driving towards oncoming traffic when the sun is low. Note that this jeep is primarily driven on paved roads - it is not being driven repeatedly off road in crazy conditions.

The entire instrument cluster failed on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler and had to be completely replaced at the dealer. One day, when starting the vehicle, the entire cluster was off with no advanced warnings, no speedometer, no fuel gauge, no warning lights, no odometer, and no information display of any kind. The vehicle would still operate, but all gauges and dashboard functions were non-functional. To make matters worse, this occurred as we were leaving the hospital with our [XXX] child during a snowstorm. Our child had just been admitted for three days to the PICU for RSV-related issues. The safety of our infant was directly put at risk due to the complete loss of all dashboard and warning information while driving in hazardous conditions. We took the vehicle to the Plainfield, Indiana Jeep dealership and were informed that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. We were charged $1,526 for this repair. Now, approximately one year later, the replacement instrument cluster is exhibiting similar issues. While driving, the cluster will randomly flicker or blink, indicating the underlying electrical or instrument-panel defect was not fully resolved. During these events, visibility of speed, warnings, and vehicle status is temporarily lost. This remains an ongoing safety concern. Given that NHTSA has opened an investigation into Jeep instrument-cluster failures, I believe this issue represents a systemic defect rather than an isolated incident and warrants further review. When it rains the front and rear floorboards fill with puddles of water from the bottom somehow. No traces of water along the doors or windows.

Death wobble really bad

The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal became inoperable, and the brakes locked up without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brake caliper had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, where it was later diagnosed with a failed brake hose, but the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact ordered the parts for the repair from the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

The front right brake line is collapsed can't find a replacement

I purchased this 2020 Jeep Wrangler from SunToyota car dealership in Holiday, FL on [XXX]. There have been several ongoing concerning safety issues with this vehicle and the car dealership over the past year since I purchased it. My vehicle has had immediate malfunctions and service visits upon purchase. On 12/31/24, the car went to the shop for broken visor (as is) as listed on service invoice- during this same visit I explained that turn signals lights were not functioning properly- was told that it was too much labor and they are aftermarket lights that the dealership cannot fix- dealership did not attempt to rectify the issue at this time. Broken visor/turn signal lights did not function properly upon purchase of the vehicle. In February, the car had what is known as the “death wobble” on major highways [XXX] and [XXX] in Florida, which was an extremely dangerous experience for all passengers in the vehicle. Invoice from 2/27/25 reflects suspension concern in regards to “death wobble” that was rectified, but again highly unsafe, and vehicle is beginning to shake again at high speeds as of December 2025. Invoice from 10/19/25 highlights the turn signal malfunction once again (it was never fixed from previous visit after purchase of vehicle and continued over several months). Car was taken back to dealer. Received call on 11/11 stating it was ready, to receive another call on my way there stating another issue with lights arisen. Received call on 11/12 stating it’s ready again, service advisor not present, and ALL lights flickering severely worse. Spoke to executive director, Dylan, who stated “[XXX] things happen” and walked away. Vehicle stayed at dealership. (Invoice from 11/12 highlights the turn signal issue again.). Vehicle was returned to me on 11/28/25, where lighting and turn signals appeared to work properly. As of December 2025, the turn signals have malfunctions again. Gauge cluster flashes and continues to spaz out impeding the use of the instrument controls such as speedometer and other equipment on the gauge cluster. This part is currently recalled on SOME jeeps. For some reason my 2020 wrangler was not included and it should be.

Rear Seat Headrest does not stay locked/engaged in the upright position. This could lead to increased risk of head and neck injuries to rear passenger occupants in the event of impact from behind.

Wiring to the steering column melted causing concerns with air bag.Dealer wants us to purchase a new steering wheel

The contact stated while the contact's wife was driving at an uncertain approximately 45-90 MPH, another vehicle merged in front of the contact causing the driver to swerve and the other vehicle crashed into the front driver-side tire and frame. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The contact stated that the vehicle was later towed to the insurance company's tow yard for inspection. The vehicle incurred damage to the front driver's side of the grill and the driver's side of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the front driver's side wheel was folded underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was condemned as a total loss by the insurance company. The contact's grandson, who occupied the front passenger seat, sustained no injuries. The contact's wife was transported to the local hospital. The contact's wife received unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital for a CT scan and continued medical attention with her primary care doctor, a neurologist, and continued physical therapy. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

# 11644630 This is the reference number to the representative I spoke with. I am attaching the latest letter I have received stating our tires was recalled. This letter attached was received on February 25, 2025.

TIRE SIZE: 35X12.5R18 I bought these tires off Amazon and I was notified in December they was recalled. I have been dealing with the seller along the way and the manufacturer. The manufacturer asked me to grind the emblem off the tire to make them meet the standards of the recall. I refused to do so. I contacted Amazon to get a refund and the seller will not issue a refund. Can you help me please?

The electrical connection in the seatbelt breaks causing the airbag and seatbelt light to constantly illuminate not knowing if the break would cause the airbags from deploying
