Emergency Exit Obstruction
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a complaint of a partially obstructed emergency exit window on a 2014 Montana trailer manufactured by Keystone RV which alleged the roof ladder impeded full opening of one of the two rear emergency exit windows.ODI notes that these trailers are equipped with as many as three (3) emergency exits, often including the window adjacent to the rear window in question.ODI further notes that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) do not apply to this case, as no emergency exits are required for this vehicle. However, the window is clearly marked as an emergency exit, yet may not function as one.Misleading signage may lead to a delay in occupant egress and pose an undue risk to safety.Keystone's recall (15V-409) to remove the label marking the window as an emergency exit or to replace the window will eliminate the risk of an occupant mistaking the subject window as an emergency exit and result in one of the functioning emergency exits being used.Keystone's actions resolve the issue raised by this investigation and therefore this investigation is closed. The ODI reports cited in this investigation can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification number:10692688. Note:Complaint number 10583668 was erroneously associated with this investigation when opened.

I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT YOU ARE TRACKING THE SUBJECT RECALL. I WAS SENT A COPY FROM KEYSTONE. I HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT THIS RECALL. I TOOK MY KEYSTONE 2014 MONTANA 3402RL TO TIARA RV IN ELKHART, IN SO THEY COULD DO THE RECALL. THEY ASSURED ME THEY USE THE OFFICIAL RECALL REPAIR. ON THE SECOND DAY OF USE, RETURNING FROM TIARA, A TRIP OF ABOUT 500 MILES, THE STEP FAILED AGAIN AS IT DID PRIOR TO THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THIS TIME INSTEAD OF A RIVET FAILING, THE NUT ON THE TOP BOLT WAS MISSING. I CHECKED THE OTHER 3 BOLTS/NUTS AND THEY WERE VERY LOOSE AND WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF WITH A FEW MORE MILES OF VIBRATION. I COULD SEE THE FLAW OF THIS FIX; STANDARD BOLTS AND NUTS WITHOUT LOCK WASHERS OR LOCK NUTS WITH NYLON INSERTS IN THE THREADS. SO FOR MY SANITY, I WENT TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND BOUGHT 4 SS BOLTS LONGER THAN THE RECALL USED AND 4 LOCK NUTS. SO FAR SO GOOD, I'LL KEEP AN EYE ON MY FIX, BUT I'M CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL FIX I GOT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT VERY GOOD. TIARA RV SAID THEY USED THE OFFICIAL FIX, AND KEYSTONE SAID TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER. BUT IT'S NOT WORTH FUEL COST TO TOW THE RV TO ANOTHER DEALER TO MAYBE GET MY FIX REMOVED AND THE POOR OFFICIAL FIX REINSTALLED. I WOULD LOVE TO GET THE OFFICIAL RECALL REPAIR PARTS SENT TO ME BY MAIL SO I CAN SEE IF IT IS ANY BETTER THAN MY FIX. BUT WHEN THE 'OFFICIAL' FIX FAILED IN LESS THAN 18 HOURS, EITHER THE FIX IS BAD, OR I DIDN'T GET THE RIGHT FIX. ...UPDATED 06-12-15 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER AMENDED THE REPAIR TO KIT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. UP;DATED 9/18/15 *JS

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
EQUIPMENT
THIS ADVISORY 14-208 INVOLVES 2014 MONTANA HIGH COUNTRY 338DB UNITS MANUFACTURED WITH IMPROPER FURNACE VENTILATION. THE STEPS LEADING TO THE UPPER DECK MUST BE REPLACED TO ALLOW THE ADDITION OF A FURNACE GRILL TO EACH STEP. THIS SERVICE ADVISORY EXPLAINS HOW TO CORRECT THE VENTILATION.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
