Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
10
+1 complaint in 30 days
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

This issue began after I brought unrepaired recall concerns to the dealership’s General Manager and was told I would need to sign an NDA and failed to provide the recall part numbers as agreed. When I received my vehicle back, I immediately noticed physical changes to my instrument panel. I then reviewed four years of photos and videos stored on my original devices and discovered approximately twenty date‑stamped images showing drill holes, pry marks, tool damage, and components of the instrument cluster visibly moving, changing, or disappearing over time. I am submitting information regarding possible unauthorized access, alteration, and replacement of my vehicle’s instrument cluster by the same Lexus dealership during multiple service visits. My photographic evidence shows the cluster’s condition changing repeatedly while the vehicle was in the dealer’s custody, including unexplained damage, a puncture in the bezel, tool marks, and ultimately a different cluster faceplate. None of these alterations were ever disclosed or documented in any repair order. I can provide a chronological photo record showing each stage of cluster alteration, service records showing no mention of cluster removal or replacement, and a timeline correlating each change with periods when the vehicle was at the dealership. I also have evidence of additional undocumented or suspicious service actions occurring during the same timeframe. Based on the physical evidence and the lack of disclosure, I believe this may involve unauthorized instrument‑cluster access and potential tampering. I request that this information be forwarded to the appropriate Department of Justice component for review, consistent with the DOJ’s process for submissions involving potential violations of law.

In 2018 shottenkirk desert lexus marked two recalls as completed but also simultaneously typed in a note saying "customer declined worked and is out of town" The original part number and quantity fields are left blank. The dealership was paid for these items. I do not have anywhere in the vehicle history after that date showing any recalls were addressed. The recalls are the airbag which is a safety hazard for exploding shrapnel., and for the instrumental panel. Both were paid to dealer but both have blank /missing part numbers. Finally--once I reported to lexus corporate and the dealer General manager, the GM Matt attempted to offer me a cash settlement and repairs but I must sign a non disclosure. This dealership sold me this vehicle with deferred recall work that was never remedied in 2022. I'm disabled and have a child. This dealerahip is trying to cover up their felonious actions and I am taking the car to another dealership to document what parts are on my car and how to proceed. I have reported to OAG, DMV, AND BAR. IM also filing police report and filing with the district attorney office.

My vehicle made a stange sound and then stopped in the middle of the roadway causing a safety risk to myself and others. No warning light appeares until thia incident. Many vehicles were forced to switch lanes to avoid a collision with my vehicle. I had to called the local police to assist me in getting my vehicle to a safe location. I had the vehicle towed to the local Lexus Dealership and it was determined that the vehicle had a fuel pump failure. I am aware that the 2013 Lexus GX 460 was recalled for the same.issue; however, my vehicles Vin did not show a current recall. This is a major issue amd needs to be addressed asap.

Lexus issued a Warranty Enhancement Program sometime in 2022. It stated that if the check engine light would illuminate due to moisture and cold in the air injection pumps and air switching valves. The warranty would be good until 10 years from first use which is 10/23 for this vehicle. I was not experiencing the problem at the time I received the notice so I files it. A few months later I started to experience the exact issue with the check engine light which would come on and render certain systems inoperable such as cruise control, The light would stay on for any amount of time then go off and everything was then OK. It then would reappear at some time and last for days/weeks then disappear. After a few months I contacted a Lexus dealer to have the issue addressed. They said the condition was caused by something other than what was outlined in the Enhanced Warranty and refused to cover it. .I contend that the exact symptoms outlined affected my vehicle and subsequent to Lexus initiating the program certainly other conditions would cause the problem and should be covered. My appeal to the dealer and Lexus headquarters were denied. In addition to the disabling of cruise control other issues existed and perhaps some not obvious to the driver could be happening.

I was driving on I4 Orlando FL and the vehicle just stalled. Almost got into an accident. The vehicle stopped on the middle of highway, the whole traffic stopped. No issues where noticed before the incident. No loss of power before or after the incident: The car was diagnosed by the dealership and the fuel pump is bad. Vehicle has roughly 130K miles.

THIS IS A BAD EXPERIENCE TO MY CAR 2013 LEXUS GX460. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR LOST CONTROL. I EXPERIENCED A LOSS IN POWER AND ACCELERATION, A DECREASE IN FUEL EFFICIENCY. I HAD TO TOW MY CAR TO THE SHOP AND TURNED OUT THE FUEL PUMP WAS MALFUNCTION THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED IT SINCE MY CAR IS KIND A NEW AND IT ONLY HAD AROUND 100K MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. AND I JUST BOUGHT IT FROM A LEXUS DEALERSHIP 2 YEARS AGO. I THOUGHT LEXUS PARTS LAST LONGER THAN THAT? I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THE ISSUE. AND THEN AFTER 5 MONTHS DRIVING AS NORMAL, THE SIMILAR INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME THE FUEL SENSOR (SENDING) WAS BAD THAT I HAD TO REPLACE.. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS. IT BROUGHT ME TO A RISK WHEN IT HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY, TWICE IN THE SAME YEAR. I HOPE LEXUS SHOULD RECALL THIS SO SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD NOT RUN TO THIS SITUATION LIKE ME. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON I84W IN IDAHO AT 65 MPH AND TOWING A 2013 AIRSTREAM 23D TRAILER THE MIRROR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FOLDED BACK WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE WIND CAUSING LOSS OF VISIBILITY TO THE LEFT REAR AND WE COULD NOT SEE VEHICLES APPROACHING TO OVERTAKE US. THE LEXUS IS EQUIPPED WITH FACTORY INSTALLED TOWING PACKAGE. AS THE AIRSTREAM TRAILER IS WIDER THAN THE LEXUS TOWING MIRRORS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW. LEXUS DOES NOT MAKE OR RECOMMEND ANY PARTICULAR TOWING MIRROR. WE WERE USING THE FIT SYSTEM 3891 DELUXE UNIVERSAL CLIP-ON TRAILER TOWING MIRROR. WE STOPPED AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY AND UNFOLDED THE MIRROR. THE SAME MIRROR FOLDED BACK SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING WEST ON I84. THE WEATHER WAS GOOD WITHOUT ANY UNUSUAL WIND CONDITIONS. WE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR WHICH HAD THE SAME MODEL FIT TOWING MIRROR. KUNI LEXIS OF PORTLAND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY MIRROR AND THEY HAD NO SOLUTION TO OFFER ME. AS THE LEXUS GX IS EQUIPPED AND SOLD AS A VEHICLE THAT CAN TOW I BELIEVE IT SHOULD ACCEPT TOWING MIRRORS WHICH ARE REQUIRED BY LAW WHEN TOWED TRAILER IS WIDER THAN THE TOW VEHICLE. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
