Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY 1995 MAZDA PROTEGE HAS THE GAS AND BRAKE PETALS SO CLOSE IN HEIGHT AND LITTLE SEPARATION THAT IT IS VERY EASY TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND STILL BE APPLYING THE GAS. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT YET BUT HAVE HAD SOME VERY NEAR MISSES. *NM

WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH A RATTLING SOUND FROM THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AROUND THE BRAKES AND THE CV JOINTS. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A MAZDA DEALER WHO INFORMED US THE PROBLEM WAS THE LACK OF CALIPER PINS IN THE FRONT BRAKES. WE HAD THE DEALER INSTALL THESE NECESSARY PARTS (ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO) AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. HOWEVER, NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK. - WE WILL BE TAKING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN BUT ARE VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD BE A STRUCTURAL SAFETY PROBLEM THAT COULD BE SERIOUS. BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR SEEM EQUALLY AFFECTED. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
