1995 Mazda Protege Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I HAVE A DETAILED ACCOUNT WRITTEN TO THE DEALERSHIP - WHO CAN THIS BE SENT TO? IN GENERAL IN TWO SEPARATE ACCOUNTS, ONE AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN FIXED FOR THE PROBLEM, WE WERE DRIVING WHEN WE EXPERIENCED A ROUGHNESS IN THE ENGINE. IN LESS THAN 5 SECONDS THE TACHOMETER BEGAN TO WILDLY FLUCTUATE, CONCURRENTLY LOSS OF POWER TO THE GAS PEDAL. WITHIN ABOUT TEN SECONDS THE ENGINE STALLED. WE COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP HAD JUST REPLACED THE DISTRIBUTOR , PERFORMED A MAJOR TUNEUP AND RESET THE TIMING ON THE TIMING BELT FOR $ 700.00. WITHIN SIX HOURS OF GETTING THE CAR BACK, THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED.
