IGNITION-PARK INTERLOCK SYSTEM
THE SUBJECT VEHICLE IGNITION-PARK INTERLOCK AND SHIFT LOCK (BRAKE-SHIFT INTERLOCK) SYSTEMS ARE MECHANICALLY ACTUATED.THE SYSTEMS UTILIZE TWO CABLE ASSEMBLIES THAT CONNECT TO A PLASTIC HOUSING MOUNTED TO THE SHIFT LEVER MECHANISM.WITHIN THE HOUSING IS A LEVER (INTERLOCK LEVER) THAT THE IGNITION-PARK INTERLOCK CABLE CONNECTS TO.WHEN THE INTERLOCK LEVER IS POSITIONED IN ITS REARWARD TRAVEL RANGE, THE IGNITION KEY REMOVAL IS PREVENTED; WHEN THE LEVER IS POSITIONED IN ITS FORWARD POSITION, KEY REMOVAL IS ALLOWED.ACCORDING TO MITSUBISHI, THE IGNITION KEY INTERLOCK CABLE MAY ALLOW THE INTERLOCK LEVER TO FALL FORWARD DURING VEHICLE USE.IN THIS STATE THE IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE GEARSHIFT MECHANISM IS NOT IN THE PARK POSITION.IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT SHIFT TO PARK BEFORE REMOVING THE KEY AND FAILS TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR.MOST OF THE REPORTED CRASH INCIDENTS WERE MINOR IN NATURE INVOLVING UNOCCUPIED VEHICLES ROLLING FROM A PARKED CONDITION AND STRIKING OTHER VEHICLES OR OBJECTS.THE SINGLE INJURY INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE OPERATOR PARKED THE VEHICLE, EXITED, AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STRUCK BY THE VEHICLE AS IT ROLLED AWAY.THE TYPE AND SEVERITY OF THE INJURIES WERE NOT DESCRIBED.IN A LETTER DATED MARCH 21, 2008, MITSUBISHI ADVISED NHTSA THAT IT WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS CONDITION (SEE WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV, RECALL ACTION 08V-139 FOR FURTHER DETAILS); REMEDY DETAILS AND TIMING ARE TO BE DETERMINED.ACCORDINGLY THE INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.

MY CAR WILL DIE WHEN IDLING OR IF SPEED IS LESS THAN 20 MPH. IT TAKES NUMEROUS TIMES TO RESTART AND WILL HAVE TO ACCELERATE TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. THIS CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME.

WATER FROM A/C DUMPS INTO THE FLOOR BOARDS OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS. THIS CAUSES BOTTOM OF SHOES TO BECOME SLIPPERY ALLOWING THEM TO SLIP FROM BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL. THERE IS SO MUCH WATER IT TAKE NUMEROUS TOWELS TO SOAK UP THE WATER. OVER TIME, THIS MOISTURE IN THE CARPET LEADS TO MOLD AND MILDEW AND AFFECTS THOSE WITH ALLERGIES. I'M SURE THEY MAY BE SOME RUST GOING ON UNDER THE CARPET DUE TO THE ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF WATER THAT IS DUMPED INTO THE FLOOR BOARDS. THIS DUMPING OF WATER HAPPENS ANY TIME THE AIR CONDITIONER IS BEING USED. WHEN THE VEHICLE TURNS, YOU CAN HEAR THE WATER SLOSHING FROM SIDE TO SIDE...IT IS A LOT OF WATER! WE HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS "FIXED"...ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT IS WAY TOO COSTLY TO CONTINUE TO TAKE THIS IN TO HAVE "REPAIRED". AFTER READING THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE, I FEEL IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND MITSUBISHI SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS PART/ISSUE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FOR MY DAUGHTER IN 2015.

Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
