Reports submitted to NHTSA, shown in the owner's own words
The hydraulic steps on this motor home automatically extend and retract when the door is opened or closed. The steps on this unit failed to retract after closing the door, and as I drove away, the steps hit a fence post. They could just as easily hit a person or driving down the road hit another vehicle. There is no warning system on this vehicle to warn the steps did not function as designed, and they are not readily visible from the driver seat. My understanding is that this has happened to others.

STEERING:COLUMN; STEERING:LINKAGES
Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in specific motorhomes built on Freightliner and Spartan Chassis.
STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:POWER STEERING FLUID
The Shyft Group Inc. (Spartan Chassis) has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Spartan chassis (NHTSA #21V 752). In response, Newmar Corporation is issuing recall NHTSA # 21V 822 and TC # 2021-640. On certain motorhomes built on a Spartan chassis, a defect in the power steering pump could cause it to fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power steering assist. This could increase the risk of a crash.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
The Shyft Group Inc. (Spartan Chassis) has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Spartan chassis (NHTSA #21V 589). In response, Newmar Corporation is issuing recall NHTSA # 21V 700 and TC # 2021-551. On certain motorhomes, under certain conditions, the instrument cluster may intermittently go blank for a brief period of time while the vehicle is in motion. Gauge data or indicators may appear to be delayed or slow to update prior to the instrument cluster going blank. Without the instrument cluster displaying important information such as the vehicle's speed, there may be an increased risk of a crash.
ENGINE; EQUIPMENT; VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM:ENGINE COOLANT HOSES AND FITTINGS
Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes. Lippert (Newmarâs window supplier) is recalling Hehr 6400 series window vents (Lippert recall 21E 047) built between 10/01/2018 and 08/13/2020, which were used on various coach models during the affected period. The adhesive that bonds the vented portion of the window may fail. Adhesive failure may cause the vent portion of the window to detach, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; STEERING
The Shyft Group Inc. (Spartan Chassis) has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Spartan chassis (NHTSA #21V 214). In response, Newmar Corporation is issuing recall NHTSA # 21V 258. On certain motorhomes, the steering output shaft inside the steering column may be too short and could disengage from the steering input shaft during a full telescope of the steering column/wheel. A disengagement of the steering output shaft from the steering input shaft could result in a loss of steering control increasing the risk of a crash.
EQUIPMENT; STEERING
On certain motorhomes built on a Spartan chassis, the steering gear mounting fasteners may come loose and fall out or interfere with other steering components. If the steering gear mounting fasteners interfere with other steering components, such as a pitman arm, it may cause difficulty in steering or pin the steering wheel to one direction, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
