Front brakes keep sticking, causing it to have hopping sensation, have gone through 12+ set of calipers, 6 or so wheel hub assemblies, and 3 or more cv axels all within a year and half.

The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the hydraulic control unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to another certified mechanic and confirmed the diagnostic result. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the vehicle could not yet be repaired due to the part being on backorder. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (105 Parker-McGill Dr, Starkville, MS 39759); and it was confirmed that the part for the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was informed of the issue. The contact was waiting for the response from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Vehicle is suffering from a known hardware issue with the ABS module error code C2200–49 upon further research there are no known fixes at this time for the vehicle and it may cause brake failure. Disables cruise control and all stability contol to include ABS
Per my dealer, Hudson Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Hudson, WI the ABS Module in my 2017 Ram 1500 has failed, and needs to be replaced. The part is on permanent backorder with no eta on production or shipping. There are thousands of complaints online regarding this issue, that Ram is not correcting. My dealer told me they may never receive the part, and there is no solution for it. The part number is 68295368AC
4-28-2026 - Service ABS illuminated, Emergency Brake Warning Light Stays Illuminated, and Electronic Stability Control Warning stays Illuminated. Had it at dealer on 4-30-2026. They tested system and said ABS CONTROL MODULE was working but sensor was bad and there was a backlog or over 20,000 customers waiting for replacement OEM parts. Engineers developed a replacement in 2023 but the replacement had a faulty chip and is not serviceable. As a result, there are over 20,000 RAM and Jeep owners driving around with unsafe vehicles. There is a safety recall for this issue but only calls out RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks.
About 5 days ago my ABS and traction control light came on brought it to a auto repair shop and when they hooked up to it to retrieve code it showed abs module failure and no parts are available to repair truck so now having to drive it without these safety features due to lack of parts.
Having abs and traction control dash lights and no cruise control have replaced everything and now being told my HCU unit is the issue and parts are not available which to me is unbelievable due to being part of safety system and not part of recall according to Ram, this makes absolutely no sense to me.
To Whom It May Concern at NHTSA, I am filing this safety complaint regarding a defective ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on my 2017 Ram 1500 Rebel 4x4 5.7L Hemi, VIN: [XXX] , with approximately 88,000 miles. DEFECT DESCRIPTION: The ABS HCU has failed, resulting in complete loss of anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic stability control, and cruise control. This is an identical failure mode to the defect addressed under NHTSA Recall 24V-896, which covered 2017-2018 Ram 2500-5500 trucks. My 2017 Ram 1500 uses the same or substantially similar HCU component and is experiencing the identical failure. SAFETY RISK: The loss of ABS, ESC, and traction control significantly increases the risk of a crash, particularly in adverse weather conditions. This is not a minor inconvenience — it is a serious safety hazard that FCA/Stellantis has already acknowledged in heavier-duty Ram platforms. MANUFACTURER KNOWLEDGE: FCA was aware of this defect as early as 2016 based on warranty claims and customer complaints. Despite issuing Recall 24V-896 for heavier Ram trucks with the same HCU failure, FCA has failed to extend recall coverage to the 2017 Ram 1500, leaving thousands of owners without remedy. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Repair estimates range from $1,200 to $2,000. The part (OEM #XXX) remains on backorder or engineering hold, making timely repair impossible through normal channels. REQUESTED ACTION: I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1. Open a formal investigation into the 2017 Ram 1500 ABS HCU failure 2. Compel FCA/Stellantis to expand Recall 24V-896 or issue a new recall to include the 2017 Ram 1500 3. While investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken back to the residence, and the contact used an OBD reader to diagnose the vehicle. The contact determined that the tone wheel had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was confirmed that the tone wheel and the front passenger’s side axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. There has been a recall on the Dodge Ram 2500 & 3500 series for the faulty ABS module. My 2017 Dodge 1500 is currently having the same issues and I am being charged full price plus labor to replace the same item. My truck has been at the dealership for over a month because due to the recall there is a nationwide shortage of parts. The truck is not drivable with faulty brakes/abs system and i am behind all the recalled vehicles that are getting the same service for free. How can the same item failure be recalled on one series and not another? Thank you
Timeline of issues: 04/11/2026 – Vehicle purchased 04/16/2026 – Brakes began grinding 04/18/2026 – Vehicle developed starting issues 04/19/2026 – Brake system parts (pads, rotors, calipers) ordered due to failure 04/23/2026 – Parts received; same day 4WD was tested and confirmed not functioning properly (dashboard indicates engagement but front wheels do not engage) 04/24/2026 – Complete brake failure occurred due to caliper failure These issues occurred immediately after purchase and indicate the vehicle had significant pre-existing mechanical defects at the time of sale. The 4WD system also does not function correctly despite indicating engagement, and the braking system failed completely shortly after purchase.
Received an error on the dash for Service Electronic Braking System and ABS System. Took to a mechanic and it is a failure of the Anti-Lock Brake Module. This is the same failure they are recalling other Ram trucks for already. I am not sure why the Ram 1500 is not included in the recall also.
Fortunately the vehicle was not in an accident. About a month ago ABS and traction control lights came on. Took pickup to mechanic with a C2200-49 code. Mechanic said the dealer could only fix the issue. Took to the dealer a couple of weeks ago and am now on a wait list with no indication when a repair can be made because of part availability. This problem seems to be the same as Ram 2500s have and have been recalled. The safety issue is the same.
I have been told that I need to replace the ABS module. It is causing my trailer brakes not to work, the ABS is not working, and the Anti-Sway is not working. The dealership told me that the part has been back order for over a year. I do not feel that the vehicle is safe to use and we cannot pull our camping trailer with the vehicle. I cannot find a solution other than to trade in the vehicle, which I am not really in the market for a new vehicle. What can I do?

I have been informed the replacement part has been on national backorder for nearly two years, with no clear timeline for repair. The ABS system is a critical safety component designed to prevent wheel lock-up, maintain steering control during emergency braking, and reduce stopping distances in wet or icy conditions. Without a functioning ABS module, the vehicle is at increased risk of skidding, loss of steering control, and extended stopping distances. In a full-size pickup truck, this creates a substantial risk of serious injury or death to occupants and others on the road. Additionally, related systems such as traction control and electronic stability control may be compromised. Online owner forums indicate this is an ongoing issue affecting many Stellantis-built vehicles, including Ram 1500 models. While recalls have been issued for other model years for braking-related defects, no recall has been issued for the 2017 model year despite similar failures. It is unacceptable for a manufacturer to leave owners operating vehicles with a known safety defect while critical braking components remain unavailable for extended periods. If a safety system cannot be repaired within a reasonable timeframe, regulatory intervention is warranted. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter and determine whether a recall is necessary. Should an accident, injury, or fatality occur due to this unresolved ABS defect, the manufacturer should be held accountable.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module in this 2017 Ram 1500 has failed, causing the ABS warning light and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) indicators to remain illuminated. A diagnosis by an authorized dealership on 1/6/2026 confirmed the failure of the ABS module and the need for a total replacement. The dealership informed me that the necessary replacement part is on an indefinite backorder from the manufacturer with no estimated date of arrival. As a result, the vehicle currently lacks functional ABS and stability control. This creates a significant safety risk, as the vehicle may experience wheel lock-up or a loss of steering control during emergency braking or in slippery road conditions. The manufacturer's inability to provide a critical safety component for a modern road vehicle leaves the driver and public at risk. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
Replaced the frozen suspension last year. Now that it’s cold again, similar codes are being thrown with new ones: Service Trailer Brake System, Service Air Suspension System, Service Electronic Braking System. To note, I’ve had a “Check Fuel Cap” code for years. It’s tied to 3 sensors along the fuel tank and absolutely nothing to do with the fuel cap itself. For the air suspension sensors (WHICH I’VE ALREADY REPLACED ONCE), and the fuel cap sensors— they all run nearly $300 a pop and that isn’t including labor. I personally cannot financially keep up with the vehicle’s maintenance costs. The fact that Canada had a class action lawsuit against FCA for the air suspension but we don’t is baffling. I pray nothing comes from these defective parts because I will be suing.

Anti lock brake module went out on my 2017 ram 1500. Dealerships do not have them in stock. From research it is a common problem for these years but only 2018 and up 1500's are recalled. Even if ai pay for the part the dealerships say they can't even get one. This is an enormous safety issue

ABS,BRAKE Warning lights on. Brakes locked up during emergency stop which resulted in loss of steering control. Cleared ABS code and it immediately reappears. Appears ABS Module is defective. When I called dealership to order ABS module was told not available due to engineering hold. I know other year Ram models have active recall on same issue and component.
The ABS / check trailer brakes warning lights started coming on and staying on. Took it to the dealer to get it taken care of and they were no help. They said the ABS module was failing but the replacement part for that has been on back order forever. They said it was okay to drive that I just wouldn't have the antilock brake system. Clearly a safety issue that it appears Ram has no interest in fixing.
