2025 RAM 1500 Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

After normal driving and powering down, (breaking, stopping, transmission to park, and turning truck off) the truck then lurches forward after a period of time from shutting it off. It lurches forward and then returns to its resting place. It does not do this every time and it is random with no identifiable reason that I can ascertain. The first time it happened I was at a gas station when the truck was turned off and my son got out to get a snack inside the gas station store. When walking toward the store the truck lurched forward nearly hitting my child. This problem was reported to McGovern Jeep Dodge Ram Newton, MA where they have had many opportunities to fix the problem. We have been in and out of the shop several times, with each visit lasting weeks to months. For the most recent repair (i was given the truck back on 9/17/26) the truck was in the shop nearly two months and the dealer involved a stellantis engineer and reported that they replaced the valve body/HIS repair in the transmission as well as both batteries, claiming it solved the problem. Upon return of vehicle I drove it home without turning off the car or stopping anywhere and the truck repeated the same lurching motion after powering down the vehicle. I have provided a video to Mcgovern showing the lurching and they have also stated in their notes the truck lurches 55 seconds after the truck goes to sleep. The truck was returned from McGovern with 20,223 miles and its about 25 miles from the shop to my house where the vehicle currently is. McGovern has made approximately 6 attempts to fix this issue while Planet Jeep Dodge Ram in Franklin MA has made 1 attempt to fix part of the issue. This has resulted in approximately 238 days out of service while at dealers. I have asked McGovern to tow the vehicle back to its shop to be worked on as I do not feel safe driving the vehicle. I have video of the truck lurching while off but I was not allowed to upload it on this form.

THIS 2025 RAM 1500 HAS AN INTERMITTENT BUT SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE A LOSS OF POWER/STALL DURING THE AUTOMATIC START/STOP SEQUENCE, INCLUDING WHILE I AM IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC OR IN AN INTERSECTION. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE TRUCK MAY NOT RESTART OR RESPOND NORMALLY WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE, LEAVING ME STOPPED AND EXPOSED TO CROSS TRAFFIC OR REAR-END IMPACT. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO DISPLAYED ABNORMAL TRANSMISSION/GEAR MESSAGES DURING START/STOP OPERATION, INCLUDING PROMPTING ME TO CHANGE THE SHIFT GEAR FROM PARK WITHOUT ME INTENTIONALLY SELECTING PARK. THIS BEHAVIOR IS UNPREDICTABLE AND CREATES A REAL RISK THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BECOME IMMOBILIZED OR ENTER AN UNEXPECTED GEAR/SHIFT STATE IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SUBURBAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF GARDEN CITY, MICHIGAN, FOUR TIMES FOR THIS SAME SAFETY CONCERN. THE DEALER HAS NOT REPAIRED THE CONDITION, STATING THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT BECAUSE IT IS INTERMITTENT. AN INTERMITTENT DEFECT THAT CAUSES STALLING OR LOSS OF PROPULSION IN TRAFFIC IS STILL A SAFETY DEFECT, AND RETURNING THE VEHICLE UNREPAIRED DOES NOT ELIMINATE THE DANGER. I AM REQUESTING THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS CONDITION ON 2025 RAM 1500 VEHICLES, INCLUDING THE START/STOP, POWERTRAIN, TRANSMISSION CONTROL, AND RELATED SOFTWARE/ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS. THIS VEHICLE HAS PUT ME IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS MULTIPLE TIMES, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT A CRASH, INJURY, OR DEATH COULD OCCUR IF THIS DEFECT IS NOT IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED.

After towing module recall completed, the trailer towing light comes On showing up on the dash board in yellow requesting setup, then fades off. Twice happened. Folding mirror required three depressions of folding mirror button to open. Back up camera fails and shows blue screen, no back up image. 5 times since Ownership. Downshift and up shift hard enough and jerky enough to break traction on icy roads in traffic. Winter is coming and this is a genuine safety concern. Pulling into parking spot very slowly truck went into park and applied brakes, no reason for this. Front sensors failed to operate when pull into into another park spot and only worked on restart. Both batteries failed and required replacement under warranty when truck was new with break in type miles. A/C locked up on infotainment center and could not turn off. Required three restarts. Rear view mirror has failed to dim several times. Numerous software issues and electrical. Stellantis should buy these trucks back, fix them right and then sell as used. I would like my hard earned money back on a new truck plagued with issues and is a safety hazard!

Since the vehicle was brand new frequently, the transmitter loses communication with the key fob and you cannot start the vehicle. I have been stuck many times for hours trying to get it started. Took it to the dealer three times. They said there is no fix currently and that it's happening to a lot of customers.

My 2025 Ram 1500 equipped with the 3.0L High Output engine has experienced two separate incidents involving loss or severe reduction of electric power steering assist. The first incident occurred on August 23, 2026, while traveling at approximately 40 mph on a public roadway. The steering became extremely heavy, the odometer began flashing, and the check-engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to nearest Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram service department on August 24 and remained there until August 28. During that visit, the dealership determined that the main battery failed testing and replaced it. The auxiliary battery tested good. The dealership also completed RRT 25-143, RRT 25-237, and RRT 25-239, including several module inspections and software reprogramming procedures. The second incident occurred on August 29, 2026, less than approximately 36 hours after the vehicle was returned to me. At a speed of less than 10 mph, the check-engine light illuminated, the odometer began flashing, the engine shut off, and the vehicle again experienced loss/severe reduction of power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to the RAM dealership where it was purchased on August 31, 2026, for the recurring issue and is currently still at the dealership. At this time, I have not been provided a confirmed root cause or an estimated completion date. This is a significant safety concern because the loss of steering assist has now occurred twice within six days, including once at approximately 40 mph. The first repair did not resolve the condition, and the vehicle has spent the majority of that period in dealership service.

While operating the vehicle inside of a car wash, with the transmission in Neutral and the engine at idle (car was propelling the vehicle) the dash chimed, showed an error message for STOP START REQUIRES RESET, shifted into park and set the parking brake uncommanded. This resulted in my vehicle being struck from behind by another vehicle inside of the car wash. The only remedy to get moving again was to STOP the engine, manually shit to PARK, restart, then release the parking brake.

While operating the vehicle in heavy traffic (stop and go) conditions at about 10 mph the vehicle displayed an error message (STOP START RESET REQUIRED) shifted itself from DRIVE to PARK and applied the PARKING BRAKE uncommanded. Note that the auto stop start was in the ON position for several occurrences, but even with the automatic stop/start OFF the same anomaly occurred. These events happened during rush hour traffic on I95 in the express lanes as well as inside of an automatic car wash and during that instance it resulted on another vehicle striking mine from behind. To get the vehicle to move again required me to STOP the engine, switch to PARK, RESTART the engine and release the already applied parking brake.

My vehicle has experienced a serious and extremely dangerous loss-of-propulsion condition on three separate occasions. The first time this happened, my RAM only had 4,513 miles on the odometer. I addressed this issue with my Carl Burger Dodge advisor in writing when I dropped it off and asked him to call me about it, but he never did. He also did not add anything I mentioned on my departure paperwork. He completely ignored this liability. While driving normally in DRIVE, the truck unexpectedly shifts out of gear and effectively goes into NEUTRAL without any input from me. The “P”/Park indicator flashes, the vehicle will no longer respond to accelerator input, and I lose the ability to accelerate. To recover the vehicle, I have had to bring it to a complete stop, shift into PARK, and then shift back into DRIVE before propulsion is restored. This is not a normal transmission shift or a minor drivability concern. The vehicle is unexpectedly losing the ability to accelerate while in motion. This creates a serious safety risk, particularly in traffic, while merging, crossing intersections, or traveling at highway speeds. The condition has occurred three separate times, and I have video documentation of one of the incidents. I have also identified other reported complaints involving 2025 Ram 1500 vehicles experiencing similar unexpected loss of propulsion, neutral/gear-selection problems, flashing gear indicators, and the need to stop the vehicle and reselect PARK and DRIVE. I am therefore formally placing Ram/Stellantis on notice that I consider this a substantial safety defect and am requesting that the manufacturer repurchase the vehicle rather than simply continuing an open-ended repair process.

Subject: URGENT SAFETY ESCALATION – Unintended Highway Braking + Ongoing Defects – 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten – VIN [XXX] – Previous $10,000 Settlement Dear Ram / Stellantis Customer Care and Escalation Team, I am writing to escalate a critical safety defect and continuing problems with my 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten. Vehicle details: VIN: [XXX] Current mileage: 17,500 Purchased: XXX Dealership: Billion – [XXX] Owner: [XXX] In May Stellantis provided a $10,000 cash settlement related to multiple electrical and other faults. Despite that settlement, the vehicle has continued to experience significant and escalating problems. NEW SERIOUS Critical safety issue – Unintended Automatic Braking: While using Hands-Free Active Driving Assist (or related ADAS systems) at 80 mph on the freeway with a clear lane ahead, the truck has slammed on the brakes without cause. This occurred once last year and has now happened two additional times. The most recent incident (Monday) nearly resulted in a serious accident when a vehicle behind me was forced to swerve to avoid a rear-end collision. My natural reaction was also to brake, which compounded the danger. This is a clear and dangerous safety defect involving the Automatic Emergency Braking / ADAS systems. I am currently forced to continue operating the vehicle with these known faults for approximately two more weeks before Billion in [XXX] can schedule service. Additional ongoing defects and repair history: The latest issue involves the engine revs surging up and down at idle, with the engine nearly stalling before recovering. Since new (XXX), this vehicle has already been in the workshop/garage 8 times and I have been provided with 8 rental vehicles. This will now become the 9th workshop visit and 9th rental once the dealership can take it in approximately two weeks. These continued defects — especially the unintended hard braking at highway speed — substantially impair the safe INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2025 Ram 1500, VIN [XXX]. Instrument cluster recall/software update performed in February 2026 after the cluster previously went blank. Since completion of the recall remedy, the digital instrument cluster has gone completely out two additional times. Both occurrences are documented by video and reported to the authorized dealer. Dealer has acknowledged the recurring problem and states they are awaiting direction from Stellantis engineering for a fix. Additionally, the vehicle has experienced two documented failures of the rear backup camera. The vehicle also currently has two unrelated safety recalls awaiting parts. I am concerned that the instrument-cluster recall remedy has not corrected the safety defect and that the recurring cluster and camera failures represent ongoing safety issues. My 2025 Ram 1500 has experienced seven separate incidents in which the steering suddenly became extremely difficult or impossible to turn. The most recent incident occurred on August 20, 2026. During these events, I temporarily lose the ability to steer the vehicle normally, creating an immediate risk of a crash. A vehicle diagnostic scan recorded repeated U0131 faults for lost communication with the Power Steering Control Module in multiple control modules. The Electric Power Steering module also recorded communication faults involving the PCM, transmission, ABS, and body control module. The scan additionally showed an active B2204 ECU configuration mismatch. This steering failure has occurred seven times and has not been permanently corrected. There is no warning. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this repeated loss of steering control in the 2025 Ram 1500.

On June 29, 2025, the CEL started blinking and the truck started shuttering. I was able to pull over to the side of the road where I discovered the truck would idle but not move without stalling. I then had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership. Upon receiving the vehicle, the dealership diagnosed a short in the wiring harness. Once the wiring harness replaced, it was discovered that the wiring harness short took out the ISCM which was then replaced, for a second time.
