Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
I have warnings on my dash board alerting of a brake system failure. I received notice of the safety recall more than 18 months ago and have followed up several times. I have been told there is no remedy and if I would like to pay to fix the issue I can and then submit for possible reimbursement. I verified the suspect part is/was available at the local dealership but they refused to remedy the safety recall. I purchased the truck at the dealership I met with but they have no direction from Chrysler so the vehicle owner must pay to resolve the defect. I believe the recall was issued in Dec 2024. Chrysler and their dealers must act on the recall allowing more than 18 months to elapse with out any follow on notices or instructions with a a firm remedy is unacceptable. I request a scheduled date to have the suspected parts replaced and correction verified at no cost to me/the owner within 15 days of this notice. Since the recall letter went out, the trucks electronic cracking system alarm has been intermittently sounding and every time I call a dealership and explain the issue, I receive the same answer that the parts to remedy the situation are not available. This has been an ongoing issue and a serious safety concern if anything were to happen to the system while I’m operating it with my family inside. I have been dealing with this for close to 2 years now. I need some action to be taken immediately.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
This recall has been in effect for almost two years. I have been affected for the past year with almost constant warning alarms distracting my attention to drive. The Chrysler Mechanic did diagnose that my ABS system has failed but t hat a remedy was, and still is not available. In the meantime I rarely my 2500 RAM Diesel because I have no ABS, cruise control or the ability to disable the traction control. The mechanic was not able to turn the alarm off and turning up the radio is not a safe option either. I drive many highway miles and often transport my Grandchildren to and fro. The latter is the reason I bought a heavy duty vehicle for safety. Due to the weight of my truck, without cruise control it is challenging to maintain consistent speeds on the highways and I am a nuisance to most drivers which has caused more than one bad reaction from other drivers. Not to mention the loss of 3 to 4 MPG of diesel. Recently my second vehicle is getting repairs and I am having to use my RAM exclusively. The recall center agreed that I have safety issues with my vehicle and offered me a rental, but after providing the requested information downloaded from the truck by the certified mechanic, I was told that more information was needed. This took place over a period of approximately two weeks where I surrendered my truck to their unsecured lot. At that time I retrieved my truck and concluded that this was a cat and mouse chase. So now I am once again driving my unsafe truck looking at navigating Indiana winter roads. Over six months ago I was the assured that the replacement part was in the final stages of testing and this is the same story today.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with cruise control engaged, there was an abnormal dinging sound coming from the vehicle, and the cruise control disengaged. The vehicle started coasting. The driver reset the cruise control. The ABS message was displayed. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure recurred while on the interstate, on country roads, or pulling out of the driveway. The contact was concerned about losing the vehicle, which was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to repair the vehicle because parts were not available. The vehicle was taken to another dealer Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Paris Service Center (1020 M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Paris, KY 40361), but it was confirmed that the part was not available for the recall repair. The customer service for the manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was advised to drive carefully because the recall failure posed a crash safety risk. The failure mileage was unknown.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Odometer Fraud. The contact intended to purchase a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. The advertised mileage was 130,200; however, a Carfax report displayed a mileage rollback, and the ECU listed the mileage at 200,220.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that after his daughter started the vehicle, there were dings and bells sounding for approximately 4 to 5 miles. The “Service Electronic Braking System” message was displayed and the cruise control was inoperable. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The dealer informed the contact that parts were available, but the dealer declined to repair the vehicle. The contact called two other dealers, South Richmond Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram - Parts Department · South Richmond Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram - Service Department (4510 Whitehill Blvd, Prince George, VA 23875), and Whitten Brothers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Parts Store · Whitten Brothers of Richmond Service Center (10701 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23235). The vehicle had been inspected at the Virginia state inspection station. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
The Hydro Boost Pump Port Tube Assembly (Mopar P/N 04581758AA / 4581758AA) on my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins has failed and requires replacement. My concern is that this component is part of the hydraulic assist system supporting critical steering/braking functions. A failure or loss of hydraulic pressure could result in significantly increased steering or braking effort and create a serious safety hazard, particularly while towing, carrying a load, or traveling at highway speeds. I am requesting NHTSA review this component and determine whether similar failures have been reported on Ram 2500 vehicles and whether further investigation or manufacturer action is warranted.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced excessive and premature front tire tread wear. The vehicle was taken to Discount Tire, and the contact was informed that the front-end alignment mechanism was welded, which prevented an alignment from being performed, which caused the premature tread wear. The technician associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering). Additionally, the contact stated that the ABS warning light illuminated, followed by a continuous warning chime while driving. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted and associated the warning light with the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2018 Ram 2500 has a safety recall (C4B/NHTSA 24V - 896) for BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL and the remedy for this condition is "NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE" ??? I have contacted FCA recall assistance center and 2 different dealers and they all are "SORRY" but say there is nothing they can or will do. One dealer offered to replace the defective part with another defective part if I was willing to pay for it and said that it would probably fail again. How can the US Dept. of Transportation allow a "US auto manufacturer" to sell a defective heavy duty vehicle used to transport loved ones and haul heavy loads with DEFECTIVE BRAKES? To add insult to injury Rams new promotional add states "Nothing Stops Ram" (True statement - Not even the BRAKES)... I'm happy to report there has not been a serious accident to date but the driver and passengers do not feel safe when the bells go off and warning messages appear on the dashboard... Thanks.
My family and I tow a 45 foot RV Toy Howler Fifth Wheel with the truck and the ABS and Traction control lights keep coming on. The RAM Dealer (Aventura) has been telling me for over a year that the parts are on back-order. I've tried to trade it in but the trade in offers have been very low since they know there's no repair parts. I'm very concerned about our safety since we take long trips into the mountains and this is constantly going on.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH and depressing the brake, the vehicle slid in the rain. The ABS, traction control, and engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The local dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case The contact was unable to reach a supervisor to escalate the issue. The phone call was disconnected before the connection with the supervisor. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The electronic throttle control light and check engine light are on. I took it to a mechanic and had the accelerator pedal replaced. The lights remained on and the truck remains in "limp mode" and will not go over 59mph. The mechanic stated that this is due to the unresolved recall problems with the traction control and anti lock braking system, and the HCU needing replaced. These components and labor are over 2-3 thousand dollars! I have called NHTSA and the manufacturer with questions and asked for a timeframe for a fix and have received nothing.

Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
I haven’t experienced an issue yet. A safety recall was finally issued to my 2018 Ram 2500 pickup truck in 2024. I had taken it to the local Ram dealership (Rairdon’s Ram, Bellingham, WA). On two separate occasions for my truck throwing the following warning light, “Check Electronic Braking System”. At the same time, traction control is deactivated, and cruiser control turns off, so if you have cruise control set, the warning light causes the cruise control to deactivate, and the truck immediately starts to slow down. This is a problem at highway speeds. The warning light also activates a chime that pings incessantly for several minutes and will continue to sound every 30 minutes while driving. Ram finally identified it as a safety issue, and issued a recall. However they stipulated there was no fix identified yet. It has been going on two years since being notified, and I have checked with my local dealership, and no fix has been identified still. My complaint is that Ram is dragging its feet with this recall repair.
My HCU is out and constantly dinging at me for no traction control and ABS. I know this is recalled and I have been waiting over a year and FCA still doesn't appear to have a remedy for this.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while entering the parked vehicle, the contact became aware that the ceiling was torn down and the passenger’s side ceiling air bag had deployed. The dealer informed the contact that the owner of the vehicle was responsible for the repair. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 238,000
•Side curtain airbag malfunction front driver's side. The truck has a warning light for the airbag and the computer diagnostics says it is a side airbag malfunction. The vehicle is well kept and has not been damaged. Mopar does not lost this malfunction and recall as included in my VIN •Cruise control malfunction The cruise control sporadically does not turn on when the button is pressed. The button may need to be pressed a dozen times before it activates and cruise control is available to be set for a given speed and then engaged. This has occurred since purchase brand new at the original dealership at less than 25 miles on odometer. Mopar does not list this malfunction/recall for my VIN. •Hydraulic Control Unit recall difficulties. The dealership has stated multiple times it has no replacement parts to do the recall repair covered under NHTSA Recall # 24V-896.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle has experienced repeated failures of the variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) electronic actuator. The actuator intermittently fails to move the turbo vanes to their commanded position, resulting in fault codes related to turbocharger performance and actuator position. The failed actuator is currently installed on the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. This failure creates a significant safety concern because the engine can suddenly lose turbocharger performance and enter a reduced-power or "limp mode" condition without warning. During these events, the vehicle experiences a substantial loss of acceleration and power, making it difficult to safely merge onto highways, pass slower traffic, or maintain speed while towing or traveling on grades. This unexpected reduction in power increases the risk of a rear-end collision or other traffic incident, particularly when operating in normal highway traffic. The condition has been reproduced multiple times and confirmed through diagnostic trouble codes. The issue is consistent with a malfunctioning VGT electronic actuator. Numerous other owners of 2013-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks equipped with the 6.7L Cummins engine have reported similar failures involving the electronic actuator, suggesting this is not an isolated incident. Prior to complete failure, the vehicle displayed intermittent warning symptoms including a Check Engine Light, reduced exhaust brake performance, and occasional turbocharger-related diagnostic trouble codes. The symptoms became progressively more frequent before the actuator ultimately failed to operate reliably. In some cases, cycling the exhaust brake temporarily restored operation, but the problem continued to return and worsened over time. The vehicle has been diagnosed using standard diagnostic equipment, and the fault has been confirmed through the presence of turbocharger actuator-related diagnostic codes.
Truck def system error derates vehicle speed to 5mph in 85 miles. This is unacceptable as no dealerships are open on weekends or in the middle of nowhere. This EPA rule will get folks killed as folks driving 5mph on freeway towing a big trailer will get run into real quick. Vehicle should NOT cause you to slow to 5mph if a pollution control device has issues. Please investigate.
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
Uconnect screen not working properly due to delamination. When driving the screen will ghost click creating a beeping sound with every ghost click. This could be several hundred peeps per minute. The back up camera will come on while driving forward. In bad weather when you want the defrosters on it will not allow it or stay on defrost. It will switch to all different vent positions, change the air temps so you can't get your window clear. If you try and change it, it will immediately change it. I was pulling a 5th wheel through the mountains and it started to pour rain. I desperately needed defrost and it would not work properly for this reason. If you turn off the screen it will turn right back on. If you turn the volume down to zero you still hear beeping. This is very distracting as a driver. I can't even turn the radio or system off. The radio constantly is changing station and switching from FM to AM or Siri. You can't do anything to stop this ghost clicking.
The radio screen has delaminating which causes random pushing of buttons on the display. This is a known issue with dodge radios and has been labeled as “ghost screen”. This is a major concern during the day as well at night while trying to drive. The distraction from the constant screen changing is a major concern. It is unavoidable to focus on the screen instead of the road while this is happening. Dodge knows of this problem and the repair cost is unaffordable. I feel for the safety of drivers and people on the road, this needs to be addressed. I have videos of this occurring but am not able to upload videos, only photos which do not show the event happening. I would like the chance to be contacted so I can share the video of this happening to express my concern, as well as the concern of many others. Thank you

Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
vehicle has been under recall since 2024 , taken to dealer multiple times , called ram line no resolve , vehicle is flashing codes through electrical system , and electronics , brakes have malfunctioned , called ram no resolve or timeline to fix given. Dealer has parts on shelf to fix but ram not giving authorization. Need help with claim
The ABS - Anti-Skid lights come on and off intermittently while driving, or it's actually done this just sitting still a few times. When it first started around July 2023 the truck had about 90k miles on it. I called the dealership, they said keep driving it till it stayed on all the time so they could track what was causing it. Well it never stays on, it is on/off at random. The random occurrence nearly caused a bad wreck while driving onto an on ramp wet road. The truck dinged as I was making the turn, it started spinning sideways and when I got stopped, I was sideways, I had to move quickly to get out of other cars way. When I tried to go it spun around the other way sideways, stopping traffic. I was lucky the other cars brakes worked or I would have been T-Boned. If I had been pulling the trailer or boat there would have been no way to control the spin or brake sliding, which I am positive would have been a bad wreck. I was not going too fast either, about 30-35 when all this happened. Dodge Ram company needs to fix this issue NOW before someone gets killed. I have an excellent driving record and want to keep it that way. I cannot pull my camper, boat or equipment trailer now cause I'm afraid this will happen and not be so lucky. Sad thing is, Dodge knows about this and are doing nothing about it.

Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
Recently the radio and display system in the vehicle stopped working properly. It was basically ghosting all commands. It could not be controlled by knobs, touch screen or voice command. the dealer stated that the screen delaminated and was causing the issue. This is a safety concern because the radio was calling 911 randomly and I was unable to stop it, it was turn on and off features in the vehicle. It's very dangerous. there is a wide know problem for these delaminating screens and this should be recalled and fixed.
The traction control/service abs system on dash came on following the loss of vehicle cruise control while driving on busy 3 lane of traffic during hill climb causing instant loss of vehicle speed. Was last told by local mopar dealer no parts available, no idea when available. Vehicle had no cruise or traction control. Only 39,000 miles on vehicle currently. Independent service center pulled code C0020-01 abs pump motor control- general electrical failure. From ECU

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the cable detached from the spare tire while driving 55 MPH on the highway. The 80-pound spare tire fell on the highway and did not cause a crash. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: LTX MS2, Tire Size: 245/75/R17, DOT Number: [XXX]. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low-pressure tire warning light illuminated, indicating that the passenger’s side rear tire pressure was low. The contact pulled over and inflated the rear passenger’s side tire, but the warning light illuminated again days later. The vehicle was then taken for an oil change at dealer, and a slow leak was found on the side of the tire. The tire was not replaced by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to where the tires were purchased, and it was diagnosed that there was a slow leak through the sidewall of the passenger’s side rear tire, and the tire could not be repaired. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to return to the store for the tire to be evaluated. The failure mileage was approximately 57,414.
