Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: DAIMLER BUSES IS RECALLING 465 MY 2004-2008 SPRINTER 2500 AND 3500 BUSES EQUIPPED WITH RICON PLATFORM STYLE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. THESE LIFTS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 403, "PLATFORM LIFT SYSTEMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES." THE ANTI-STOW INTERLOCK MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A WHEELCHAIR OR MOBILITY AID USER. THE PRESSURE SENSING SWITCH THAT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF WEIGHT ON THE PLATFORM WAS NOT ADJUSTED TO THE NECESSARY SENSITIVITY LEVEL. THE LIFT COULD STOW EVEN THOUGH SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS STILL ON THE LIFT.
The risk: A LIFT OCCUPANT CAN BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT BEGIN TO STOW UNINTENTIONALLY.
The remedy: DAIMLER BUSES IS WORKING WITH RICON TO CORRECT THE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS (PLEASE SEE 07E097). OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON AT 1-800-322-2884 OR DAIMLER BUSES AT 1-905-403-7807.

KUHMO TIRE ROAD VENTURE AT 215 85R16 TREAD SEPARATED FROM CASING CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO MY 09 MONACO COVINA MOTOR HOME. THESE TIRES CAME AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE MONACO. THIS IS THE FOURTH OF SEVEN OF THESE TIRES THAT HAS FAILED IN THIS FASHION. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED, ROTATED, AND MAINTAINED AT APPROPRIATE AIR PRESSURE. I CONTACTED KUHMO AND THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TWO TIRES THAT THREW OFF RUBBER ON MY LAST TRIP WITH THE MONACO. I JUST COMPLETED ANOTHER TRIP (THE FIRST SINCE REPLACING THE TWO ORIGINAL DEFECTIVE TIRES) AND HAD TWO MORE GO BAD WITHIN A DAY OF EACH OTHER. THE MONACO HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS NOT OVERLOADED NOR ARE THERE ANY MECHANICAL DEFICIENCIES. BOTH TIRES WERE ON THE REAR OUTSIDE OF DUALS. BOTH APPEARED TO HAVE BLISTERED PRIOR TO TREAD SEPARATION. IN THE PREVIOUS INCIDENTS, ONE FRONT AND ONE REAR INSIDE DUAL SEPARATED. BOTH HELD AIR ALLOWING TRANSPORTATION TO A TIRE SHOP FOR REPLACEMENT. THERE MUST BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND RECALL IF APPROPRIATE. *TR

Repair Parts Used For Structural Repairs This bulletin involves discussing FCA US LLC position with regard to structural repair parts usage.

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
