Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE CLUTCH AND CLUTCH ASSEMBLY OF MY 2007 VICTORY KINGPIN HAS BROKEN. THE FIRST INCIDENT IN JULY 2009 THE MOTORCYCLE WAS STATIONARY THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRENTY DUE TO A BROKEN ADJUSTER. THE SECOND INCIDENT IN MAY 2011 THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN MOTION AND THE CLUTCH CABLE BROKE WHERE IT CONNECTS AT THE HANDLEBAR. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS THEN UNABLE TO BE OPERATED, HAD TO BE TOWED AND CLUTCH CABLE HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT MY COST. THE THIRD OCCATION OCCURRED IN APRIL 2016 THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN MOTION AND THE CLUTCH CABLE BROKE AT THE OPPOSITE END WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE ENGINE MAKING THE MOTORCYCLE INOPERATIVE, HAD TO BE TOWED AND REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP BY ME. EACH OCCATIONS WHEN THE CLUTCH CABLE BROKE WHILE IN OPERATION IT BECAME AN EMERGENCY SITUATION UNABLE TO CHANGE THE GEARS AND COME TO A SAFE STOP WHILE IN TRAFFIC. ALL VICTORY MOTORCYCLES HAVE THE SAME ENGINE TRANSMISSION COMBONATIONS IN 2007 SO I WOULD THINK ALL MOTORCYCLES HAVE THE SAME RISK OF BREAKAGE.

CAME OUT OF GARAGE AND PULLED THE CLUTCH TO ENGAGE 1ST AND THE CABLE BROKE AT THE HANDLE AREA. I HAVE CHECKED ON MULTIPLE VICTORY MOTORCYCLE FORUMS AND TOO MANY RIDERS HAVE HAD THEIR CABLES BREAK ON THEM. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. *TR

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

SAF-16-01

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL

A STOP RIDE MEANS THE CONSUMER MUST NOT OPERATE THEIR VEHICLE UNTIL THE REPAIR IS COMPLETE. We have been made aware that some dealers are incorrectly communicating the importance of STOP RIDE communications.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
