Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
1
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

6,700 units potentially affected
The defect: Winnebago Industries, Inc (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Winnebago Era, Travato, Fuse, View, Trend, Aspect, Paseo, Via, Adventurer, Journey, Tour, and Grand Tour motorhomes. These vehicles have an auxiliary solar charging port circuit that is not fused.
The risk: If solar panels are connected and they exceed the amperage capacity of the circuit, the unprotected circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will install an inline 15 amp fuse into the auxiliary solar charging port circuit, free of charge. Winnebago issued interim notifications to owners on December 4, 2018. The recall began June 5, 2019. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885.

The defect: Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Winnebago Era, Travato, Minnie Winnie, Fuse, View, Trend, Aspect, Brave, Vista, Sightseer, Adventurer, Forza, Journey, Tour, Revel, Paseo, Chalet, Access, and Intent motorhomes and Commercial vehicles, and 2013-2018 Itasca Spirit, Navion, Cambria, Tribute, Sunstar, Sunova, Suncruiser, Solei, Meridian, Elipse, Horizon, Reyo, and Via motorhomes. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Winnebago will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for replacement or aftermarket fire extinguishers, free of charge. The recall began on January 19, 2018. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Lazydays RV Retail Delivery Issue

Opened Jun 20, 2017
Closed Jun 13, 2022

NHTSA opened AQ17-003 to determine whether Lazydays RV of Seffner, Florida (Lazydays) has complied with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301 (Safety Act) and its implementing regulations. NHTSA received information suggesting Lazydays delivered a new Winnebago recreational vehicle (RV) without having remedied a recall. The Safety Act requires, among other things, that a manufacturer notify its dealers of defects related to motor vehicle safety and noncompliances with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and, in turn, that a dealer not deliver a new vehicle subject to a recall unless the recall remedy has been performed (49 U.S.C. 30120(i)). In June 2017, NHTSA issued information request (IR) letters to Lazydays and Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago), and again to Lazydays in August 2017. NHTSA's investigation indicated that Lazydays delivered at least seven recalled vehicles that did not have the recall remedy completed at the time the vehicles were delivered to the customers. On May 3, 2022, NHTSA entered into a Settlement Agreement with Lazydays to resolve the Audit Query. In the agreement, Lazydays agreed to pay a $45,000 civil penalty and to certain training and auditing requirements. Specifically, Lazydays committed to mandatory employee training regarding the delivery of new vehicles with open recalls and the implementation of new vehicle sale and delivery process controls at its dealership and any newly acquired dealerships. This Audit Query is closed.

OVER 30 TIMES IN THE FIRST 5,000 MILES OF DRIVING, THE LOW TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. EACH TIME THE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED OK. TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAID THERE WAS A BAD TIRE SENSOR AND HE REPLACED IT. SINCE THEN INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT GO ON EVEN WHEN THE TIRE PRESSURE IS LOW. COULD THIS BE RELATED TO THE DOCUMENTED ELECTRICAL ISSUE? I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE.

2016 WINNEBAGO TRAVATO DIESEL ON A RAM PROMASTER CHASSIS. ON 2 OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING ON MULTI-LANE HIGHWAYS, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. LUCKILY ON BOTH OCCASIONS I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD BEFORE BEING INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. THE FIRST TIME THE MESSAGE THAT THE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL NEEDED SERVICING APPEARED. I WAS TOLD BY THE CHRYSLERR/DODGE DEALER THE ENGINE WOULD RESET ITSELF AND WHEN IT DID BRING THE VEHICLE IN. I WAS TOLD THE CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, WHILE ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST ALL POWER WITH THE MESSAGE SERVICE TRANSMISSION. THIS TIME ALL WHEELS WERE LOCKED AND CAR WOULD NOT RESTART FOR HOURS. WHEN IT DID RESTART, THE MESSAGE CHANGED TO SERVICE ENGINE. TOWED TO A DEALER WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE REASON AND THREW UP HIS HANDS. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASE 8/28/2015 AND TO DATE HAS SPENT OVER 2 MONTHS IN REPAIR SHOPS AND NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA WHEN OR IF IT CAN BE FIXED. THERE IS A RECALL NOTICE, BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX IT. I WILL NOT PLAY RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH MY LIFE OR ENDANGER OTHERS ON THE ROAD, PARTICULARLY BECAUSE OF THE RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE NATURE OF THIS DEFECT. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD.
