ACCELERATING FROM STOP INTO A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION THE ENGINE JUST DIED AND WE ALMOST FELL BECAUSE A BUMP AND BRAKE LIKE EVENT OCCURRED WITH THE BIKE LEANING OVER FOR THE TURN, THIS WAS VERY UNSETTLING. SIMILAR EVENTS HAD OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY AFTER STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP OR A NEAR STOP. THEY HAD OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND THE ENGINE RESTARTING RIGHT UP AFTER EACH INCIDENT. THIS LAST TIME IT OCCURRED WITH THE BIKE LEANING, WITH A LITTLE HIGHER MOMENTUM BECAUSE OF A HIGHER SPEED AND IT HAPPENED AT THE WORST PLACE TO OCCUR, AT A BUSY INTERSECTION WHILE IN A BAD ANGLE. THEN ENGINE HAD ISSUES RESTARTING AGAIN SO I HAD THE BIKE PICKED UP BY A DEALER NEAR ME AND AFTER INSPECTION I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A BAD FUEL PUMP, AND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF POST IN THE WEB OF SIMILAR OCCURRENCES TO OTHER OWNERS OF YAMAHA MAJESTY 400'S. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 YAMAHA YP400 MOTORCYCLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V180000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP); HOWEVER, IT CONTINUES TO STALL AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE ACTUAL HARNESS WAS NOT REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE REMEDY, AND WAS ONLY INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY REPAIRED UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT REPLACING THE HARNESS AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE UNSURE IF THE HARNESS WAS REPLACED AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WOULD HAVE TO NOTIFY THE CONTACT ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS RE-INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000. UPDATED 07/24/09. *LJ

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
