I drive a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 3.0L Diesel with the 10-speed transmission. The transmission control software failed to monitor/detect valve body wear or trigger a 5th-gear 'limp mode' safety net, resulting in three separate instances of sudden rear-wheel lockup at speed. The dealer was unable to replicate the issue during a service visit from 6/10 - XXX. The issue was raised as the transmission was shifting increasingly badly leading up to this service visit. The first full lockup occurred a few days after receipt of the vehicle on XXX driving eastbound on [XXX]. Off the gas, coasting downhill. Once everybody started speeding up, I increased the throttle gently and the truck shook violently. I initially thought I had been hit by another vehicle but realized it was the transmission. Speed was noted 24 mph. The second incident occurred XXX while traveling to [XXX]. Driving southbound between [XXX] and [XXX] at approximately 50 MPH in a coasting condition. Went to pass a slow vehicle and the vehicle jerked violently an locked the rear wheels. Initial assumption was that I had been hit. Was able to regain control and continue. The third incident occurredXXX while traveling from [XXX] to [XXX]. Driving eastbound on [XXX] at approximately 35 mph, when moving from a coast to acceleration posture, the vehicle again locked the rear wheels and jerked violently. Finally, onXXX when traveling southbound from [XXX] to [XXX], I stopped for fuel. When attempting to accelerate onto the freeway, the vehicle failed to engage 6 gear, stumbled, and then went into limp mode with a check engine light. On XXX a [XXX] dealer found code P0747 and addressed the issue with [XXX]. I was forced to rent a car to continue my journey to [XXX]. GM ultimately shipped my truck back to me one week later. The software 'fix' clearly did not work as intended and remains a serious safety hazard. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine failure on our 4-cylinder- it just quits same problem as on the 6-cylinder - it just stops running or runs rough. No warning signs and no indication that it is about to fail. Hazardous on the freeway. Vehicle has been at the mechanics for a month now and GM keeps saying the engine is on backorder.

I was driving my 2023 silverado 1500 down the highway when my engine started loosing power and then shut completely down at 65 mph. My safety and others were at risk due to speed and loss of power. I was lucky enough to not be on an interstate or in a metropolitan area. This happened due to a recall on this particular motor from General Motors (6.2 Liter). My vehicle was taken to a local General Motors dealership and the engine replaced. There were no warnings or abnormal behaviors of the vehicle prior to and the vehicle was taken in for the recall prior to the incident. The motor oil was changed to the recommended 0-W40 by the dealership.

On our way to [XXX], we heard a clacking noise coming from our engine. Pulled off the highway and had it towed to Reeder Chevrolet. It was Sunday XXX. On XXX we went to the dealer and they said we spun a connecting rod bearing and needed a new engine. Truck is a 2023 Slverado, 5,3 engine, with about 65000 miles on it. 5000 miles out of warranty. It took 18 days, and cost $12,214.37 to replace. Dealer stated that if I wanted to pursue a warranty claim, we would have tpo pay for them to disassemble the engine, diagnose the problem, then reassemble the engine, and they would send it to GM. GM would decide if it would be covered under warranty. If not, we would be out the cost of the diagnosis. I have always used 0W-20 full synthetic oil when an oil change was required. After searching this problem online, I found a tech service bulletin changing the requirement to 0W-40. We were never notified of the change, and the 2026 owners still say to use 0W-20. Attached are the invoice and recommendation to replace engine. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have noticed a ticking noise that is coming from the engine, driver side, the tick after the recall was preformed, 5-23-2025. The tick has grown in loudness from that date. Took the truck to the dealership and they did a check but was unable to locate anything, no parts were removed and no witness marks on any of the engine areas Example oil pan and so on. I was told that they would charge me if the truck was brought back for the same issue per GM not the dealership. They have been doing my oil changes at a 3,000 mile interval. The tick has gotten progressively louder, and I am nervous about driving my truck but I can't not work.

The engine in my 2023 Silverado ZR2 (6.2L L87 V8) failed. It is available for inspection at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet ([XXX]). On XXX at about 67,000 miles, and the days leading up to it, the truck repeatedly struggled to start due to metal on metal contact, almost leaving me and my family stranded multiple times. Driving the vehicle produced a loud rattling noise at 2200 to 2700 rpm, and felt unsafe to drive. Especially with my family. The problem was reproduced and confirmed to be an engine failure by the Rick Hendrick Chevy dealership a week after being dropped off with an appointment. I have been told the engine needs to be replaced under the special coverage program (N252494003). The L87 recall inspection and oil change was completed on XXX also by Rick Hendrick Chevy. There were not warning lights or other symptoms leading up to this engine failure. The symptoms of struggling to start and the ticking noise as 2200 to 2700 RPM started that weekend before I brought to dealership. They got progressively worse. Dealership has said I will receive a new engine under warranty but no timeline for completion. Additionally I have not been furnished with a service loaner or option for one. Leaving me with no vehicle to replace it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine failed and was replaced at 38k. Transmission shudders, have been back to dealership multiple times for transmission shudder, have been told it was tires, torque converter, and valve body. When those items didn’t fix the issue, I was told it was the engine dfm and that it was normal and not a problem, AFTER they had already acknowledged the transmission issue by trying to fix it with a torque converter and valve body. Engine failed again at 54,604 miles while at high way speeds in rush hour like traffic in between [XXX] and [XXX], while pulling a camper. Truck oiled down the interstate and produced a blueish/milky looking cloud that caused drivers behind me to lock up their brakes because of bad vision, creating a hazard. I was told by gm that they wouldn’t tow the camper that I had to take care of that but they wouldn’t tow send a truck for my truck. Tow truck gets there and says my truck is too big and leaves. I called my own rollback to get my truck 3 1/2 hours later and they came and got it. Was stranded on the side of the interstate for 4 1/2 hours in 90 degree weather, to my knowledge the 2nd truck gm was supposed to send never showed up. Requested a buyback and was denied with no reason given. I have a lot of records if anyone wants them. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Catastrophic Engine failure - Chevy, Silverado 1500, Yr: 2023; Odometer: 33,183: On 8/16/2026 we were traveling down a busy highway towing our camper and the engine completely stopped, no propulsion, no warning lights, no check engine lights; complete failure; we had to coast to side of road. The only thing that indicated a problem is that we started hearing what sounded like marbles rattling, it wasn't loud but noticeable. We pulled over at gas station to check oil, even though we just had the oil changed for maintenance on 7/17/2026 (Odometer: 32,587). Everything checked out ok; however, the marble sound became louder; then within 5 minutes of leaving the gas station, we lost all engine propulsion; the engine completely shut down. Our safety was put at risk as we had no truck engine and were towing a camper on a busy highway; and had to try and coast to a safe location on side of road; miles away from home. We had to call a tow truck to come get us and unfortunately, they could not help us with our camper so then had to call our son to come with his truck to get our camper and us home safely. The tow company also had a difficult time getting the truck into neutral to tow. The truck was towed to our hometown Chevy Dealer. The dealer said that they were not going to diagnose the problem and instead are ordering a new 6.2 engine; same as the 6.2 that failed. We asked if this would fix the problem and they said there were no guarantees as it is the same engine with the same problem. Prior to this event, we received a recall in Sep 2025 and an engine inspection and oil change was performed on 9/12/2025 (Odometer: 25,751); we were told that our engine was ok. As of 9/3/2026; we have been without our vehicle for 17 days.

My Second motor blew up while towing my camper with my entire family in the vehicle, leaving us stranded 1 foot from interstate traffic for over an hour as we waited for a tow truck—this was GM's 3rd attempt to fix the problem. There were no warning signs. The motor had roughly 4 thousand miles on it. I have since gotten rid of this truck (and suffered financial loss) before it gets me or someone else killed. GM needs to fix this. o30,317 miles – Started using Heavier oil 6/18/2025 o36,732 miles – Recall “fix” 11/10/2025 o38,917 miles – 1st Engine Failed 1/9/2026 oTruck returned to me – 1-24-26 o43617 miles – 06/20/2026 Replacement motor blew up I can't remember the exact speed, but I was going with the flow of traffic, so I'm going to guess it was 70-75. On [XXX], my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 (VIN: [XXX]) underwent GM's safety recall service for the 6.2L L87 V8 engine (Recall N252494000 / Special Coverage N252494003). The vehicle passed dealer inspection and received the prescribed higher-viscosity oil and calibration remedy. On [XXX], at 25,287 miles—less than five months and a few thousand miles after the recall was performed—the engine suffered a catastrophic internal mechanical failure, resulting in a sudden and complete loss of propulsion while I was getting off of the freeway. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. I had it towed to Murcock Chevrolet. The vehicle was serviced at Murdock Chevrolet (Woods Cross, UT), where technicians confirmed the internal failure and completed a full engine long-block replacement under GM Special Coverage warranty (Invoice total: $10,852.26). GM's initial recall remedy failed to prevent catastrophic failure, posing a serious safety hazard due to unexpected propulsion loss while operating the vehicle. On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the 6.2L V8 (L87) engine in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 seized and locked up completely, resulting in total loss of propulsion. I was driving at 65 MPH when it felt like the transmission was slipping and I lost power and coasted the truck to the side of the road. COMPONENT: Engine (6.2L V8, RPO L87) — connecting rod/crankshaft failure consistent with Safety Recall N252494001 (NHTSA Recall 25V-274). The vehicle is available for inspection. It is currently at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet, where it was towed on July 13, 2026, and remains inoperable. SAFETY RISK: The engine seized during operation, causing sudden and complete loss of propulsion in traffic. This is the exact failure mode identified in Recall 25V-274 as increasing the risk of a crash. CRITICAL DETAIL: This vehicle previously underwent inspection under Safety Recall N252494001 and PASSED on Feb 3rd 2026 at VAN Chevrolet in Kansas City. GM deemed the engine non-defective and issued extended warranty coverage of 10 years/150,000 miles under the associated special coverage program. Despite passing GM's recall inspection, the engine suffered catastrophic failure. This appears directly relevant to NHTSA's open recall query regarding the effectiveness of GM's recall remedy. DEALER CONFIRMATION: A technician at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet has verbally confirmed the engine is locked up/seized. Formal diagnosis is pending master technician sign-off and submission to GM, expected the week of July 20, 2026. The manufacturer has not yet inspected the vehicle. WARNING SIGNS: No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms appeared prior to the failure. The engine failed without warning

A valve on the 3.0L Duramax is allegedly sticking, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode or be inoperable. This is a known issue for GM and they have issued a service bulletin on it. Unfortunately, no dealers want to address the issue and now we are left with a vehicle that if we do not pay to repair, after it being ours for only 5 days, the vehicle will be unusable. This vehicle is under warranty still and this part is needed for operation. I believe this avoidance of a recall is harming customers and creating pay to drive schemes. This needs to be addressed before thousands of customers begin paying for a repair that GM knows is their fault.

My truck has the L87 motor on recall. i purchased it brand new and paid top dollar for it. I've had issues since I've bought it. All of my maintenance has always been done at the dealership from regular maintenance to purchasing brand new tires. I am very disappointed to have a truck that concerns to drive, i do not take my family out in my truck because i am not confident in its reliability and safety. multiple times i've taken my truck in for service and let them know to complete an oil change, tire rotation and to check an issue with a "tick, clunk and knock" just to be told it was "normal for the 6.2". my normal dealership has blocked off appointments online and you'd have to call to try to set one up. I demanded a diagnostic one time when the truck was acting weird and the tech stated "stop by, i'll squeeze you in" in which i did. however, i wasn't given any documentation since "i didn't have an appointment". After reviewing all of my service records, i come to notice not once time did they mention they did a diagnostic check. Only the recall test shows on one of the service records. I've had 3 different viscosity oils in my motor from the dealer stating GM recommended it. I had to night drop my truck on June 14 as it was making a weird noise from the engine and it felt like it had less power. I waited 2 days and the dealer did not contact to even state they have my truck in service. when i called to ask the status i had to agree to text message communication in which they replied, "at best it will take 2 weeks just to look at it". I asked for a loaner since i need a truck for work and transportation, they replied they do not have any and I will be placed on a list. My truck is still under original powertrain warranty and they cannot even provide a loaner. i feel that they are brushing me off to buy time and here i am making hefty car and insurance payments for a truck i do not have nor a truck that I NEED to provide for my family. GM does not care!

6/12/26 ( 2023 Chevy Silverado - 6.2 liter engine) While driving at approximately 40 MPH on a two lane road, the truck shut off. After multiple attempts, the engine failed to restart. The transmission locked up in park and would not release. This required the truck to be dragged up on the flat bed wrecker instead of rolling freely. Prior to this instance there have been several issues with the electrical system. 1. radio sound shuts off. does not come back on. 2. Head lights stay on for 10 minutes after vehicle is turn off. 3. Tail gate opens on it own. Tail gate doesn't open with fob. 4. door locks fail to operate correctly. 5. When drivers door is opened a beeping sound starts and doesn't stop until door is closed. I have reported these problems to GM & have two case numbers. The dealership reports that the 6.2 replacement engines have had multiple failures.

While traveling on the interstate towing a fifth-wheel camper going 55 mph, a message appeared on the dash instructing me to press the Start button. I pressed the Start button, but the vehicle would not start. When I pressed the Start button the entire instrument cluster and navigation display went out. We were able to safely coast to the breakdown lane, skidding to a stop. We remained in the breakdown lane on a busy highway on a holiday weekend in 90+ degree heat for 7+ hours before being towed to a nearby dealership. When the right type of tow truck arrived (capable of towing the truck and camper off the highway), the driver had to remove the driveshaft before the vehicle could be towed to the nearby dealership. This is because of the electronic shift. If the vehicle is not running it cannot be shifted out of park without a special tool. We felt very unsafe sitting in the breakdown lane with cars whizzing by shaking our camper and vehicle at each vehicle passing. Not 1 time did the police stop to provide assistance/make sure all were ok, etc. The vehicle has since been towed to the local dealership and after they inspected the vehicle it was determined the engine seized due to debris in the engine. A replacement engine is on backorder. The engine had already been inspected for the recall and GM 6.2L L87 "fix" was performed, but this did not stop the engine from seizing.
