Owner-reported complaints naming the steering system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Steering reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I HAVE 2 SON-IN-LAWS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR FAILURE AND AFTER QUESTIONING SEVERAL DEALER REPAIR FACIITIES THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFAULT. WHEN THE BOLT SHEARS THAT HOLDS THE PULLEY YOU LOSE ALL POWER, COOLING, STEERING CAPABILITY AND HAD I BEEN TRAVELING DOWN I-95 AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT I WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT THEIR 1-800 NUMBER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A COVERED ITEM IN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS. CHRYSLER SURELY KNOWS THE REPAIR RATE ON THIS ITEM AND IF THE RATE IS HIGHER THAN NORMAL THEY SHOULD INSPECT TO DETERMINE IF THE BOLT THEY USED WAS SUBSTANDARD. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
