2015 Chrysler Town And Country Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 Chrysler Town And Country, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Transmission completely failed and had to be risky rebuilt. I was just driving down the highway and the transmission went into limp mode and I came to a fast slow down as it dropped the gearing. Also have noticed a huge issue with electronics putting me into a limp mode with wipers on headlights wont shut off, lose dash lights and speedometer with no blinkers or hazard lights. This left me in a very unsafe place as I had no way to tell other drivers where I was going or see how fast im going. Could have caused a huge accident 😕. Please look into this as there are many issues of this happening.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a transmission flush was performed; however, the failure persisted, and the vehicle started stalling after the repair. An independent mechanic was informed about the failure, and the contact was informed that the transmission fluid flush would take a while to take effect. The contact was informed to monitor the issue to see if the failure continued or worsened. The failure persisted, and the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed it with transmission failure. After negotiating with the mechanic about what to do with the vehicle, the mechanic suggested that replacing the torque converter would repair the transmission. The contact agreed to replace the torque converter. Less than a week after the repair, the check engine warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, and DTC: P0868 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Low) was retrieved. The vehicle was taken back to the original mechanic, and the mechanic was informed about the fault code. The contact was then informed that the transmission oil cooler hose assembly needed to be replaced, and the contact had the part replaced. While the contact's husband was driving home after the repair, the vehicle stalled upon approaching a stop sign. The driver continued driving, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local mechanic, and DTC: P0868 was retrieved. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train); and associated the recall with the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

2015 Chrysler Town and Country lost propulsion power while driving, endangering 2 occupants and surrounding drivers. While driving on a residential road, vehicle came to a stop at intersection. Upon attempting to accelerate from stop and applying gas, vehicle jolted and would not accelerate past 5 miles an hour with transmission engaging and disengaging while shifter was in drive. Vehicle's transmission would intermittently engage and disengage for 1/2 mile with no warning lights or error messages. Vehicle idled as normal, but vehicle would not engage transmission properly when shifter set to "Drive" position. Vehicle was then parked in driveway off of the road.

I was driving at 515 am on the highway about 60 mph, when all of a sudden Drive aside headrest airbag went off. I am thankful that it was early in the morning and not a lot of people on the road cuz I did swerve but did not hit anyone or anything as it startled me as I was driving. I called Chrysler see case number below and they will do nothing about this. As this car is made you need to replace the whole seat they want me to pay for the Diagnostics waiting for a supervisor to call me back. I've been icing my lower neck and back since it happened. NHTSA ID 11679106 · filed Aug 7, 2025

With normal use, no accident has occurred both front driver and passenger active headrest have deployed due to faulty plastic casing. One side, front passenger occured with occupant pulling on headrest to enter vehicle in the middle row. One , front driver side, occured when a shopping bag GENTLY bumped the headrest while being removed from the middle row behind the seat. They will not "click" back into place because of a broken piece. If this deployed while driving, rather than casual contact (not rough contact!) it would cause injury to the neck or confusion in a driver to no longer be alert.

The vehicle randomly loses all power, which means no power steering and no brakes. It happens randomly and after searching online it appears others have the same issue faced back to the wireless ignition node being faulty. However the previous recall doesn't cover the vehicle I have which is experiencing the exact same symptoms. My wife has already had a close call as she is unable to steer the vehicle without power steering and the brakes don't work at all.

We have had multiple times when we are driving, and our vehicle shuts off and we lose power steering and power brakes. When the van does come to a stop, we are able to restart it and continue on. There is no warning that the van is going to shut off, it just does it. This is our family vehicle. I have found multiple forms online with customers complaining of the same issue with no positive results from the dealerships.

While driving at 45 mph on a smooth suburban road, the rear windshield exploded. Previously, there had been no visible flaws in the glass. The windshield heater had been used for about 20 minutes, but turned off more than an hour before. The glass apparently exploded outward, as there were no glass shards in the empty row of kids booster seats in the rear. By internet search we learned there have been many of these same incidents over the years.

Several times over the past few weeks the van has just shut off while driving. This has happened at low speeds and at city driving speeds. The engine just completely shuts off and the van loses power brakes/steering/acceleration with no warning, no rough running, no sounds, and no check engine light. The mechanic cannot find anything wrong with it but the problem continues at random intervals. This is potentially very dangerous and even worse is that there is no evident problem.

VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. MY 2015 TOWN AND COUNTRY WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A SPARE TIRE. WE HIT A STONE THAT PUNCTURED THE SIDE WALL OF A FRONT TIRE. THERE WAS NO WAY THE COMPRESSOR PROVIDED WITH THE VEHICLE WOULD INFLATE THE TIRE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A SPARE TIRE IN A VEHICLE. THE FIRST HALF DOZEN CARS I OWNED HAD A FULL SIZE SPARE. SINCE THEN THEY HAD ECONO SPARES (DONUTS). THE LAST TIME I HAD A FLAT, I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE TIRES AND MAKE IT HOME. THE PUNCTURE I ENCOUNTERED THIS TIME HAPPENED 11:00 PM, NO ONE TO GIVE ASSISTANCE. NEAREST TOWING SERVICE WAS 20 MILES AWAY. WHY WAS CAR COMPANIES ALLOWED TO MAKE A SPARE TIRE A $350 OPTION? THE FANCY PUMP THEY PROVIDES THAT COMES WITH A RECHARGE CANISTER COST MORE THAN A SPARE TIRE. YOU PEOPLE REQUIRE SEAT BELTS AND AIR BAGS. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SAFETY SPARE? WHAT WOULD MY WIFE HAVE ONE IF I WASN'T THERE. NO SPARE IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN NO SEAT BELT. DO A SAFETY RECALL AND REQUIRE THE ADDITION OF SAFETY SPARE TIRES. MY WIFE COULD HAVE CHANGED THE TIRE. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY SAID THE HID HEADLIGHT BALLAST NEEDED REPLACED. NO POWER GOING TO LOW BEAMS. HAD IT REPLACED AND LIGHTS WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. WE PURCHASED A SET OF 4 NEW TIRES ONLINE WITH MANUF. WARRANTEE. HAD THEM INSTALLED. EXACTLY A WEEK LATER THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE BLEW WHILE DRIVING TO PICK MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL(ON THE SIDE NOT TREAD OF TIRE.) CALLED HANKOOK . ITHEY ASKED ME TO GO TO TIRESPLUS TO HAVE IT INSPECTED AND REPLACEMENT DONE. THE TIRE PLACE PUT THE NEW TIRE ON AND CHARGED ME. THEY STATED CALLED HANKOOK AND PUT THE CASE NUMBER IN BUT DID NOT AGREE TO SEND THE BROKEN TIRE IN WITH THIER DISTRIBUTOR TO HANKOOK SO THAT THEY COULD DO A REFUND OR REPLACEMENT. I SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE BACK AND FORTH. I NEEDED A CAR SO I PAID AND LEFT. I STILL KEPT CALLING AND HANKOOK STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REFUND ME. THAT THEY NEEDED THE TIRES PLUS PLACE TO RETURN THE TIRE, THEY WOULD PAY THEM AND THE TIRES PLUS HAD TO PAY ME. THE TIRES PLUS STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT AND THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE HANKOOK DISTRIBUTORS, EVEN THOUGH I WAS SENT TO THEM. THESE WERE BRAND NEW TIRES LESS THAN A WEEK INSTALLED. I AM NOW WORRIED THAT THE OTHER 3 MAY BE DEFECTIVE AND I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER MY BUGET ON THIS ISSUE. I SPOKE TO JD AT HANKOOK 615-432-0700 WHO SAID SHE WOULD TALK TO HER SUPERVISOR. I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. I WILL EMAIL THEM A COPY OF PAYMENT PROOF AND PHOTOS OF THE TIRES. BUT SHE STATED THAT IF TIRES PLS WAS NOT SENDING THE TIRE, THEY COULD NOT REFUND ME. THE COMPANY THAT THEIR REPRESENTATIVE YOCELYN-TOLD ME TO GO TO---WILL NOT SEND THEM THE TIRE ,SO I DONT GET MY MONEY BACK. AND IM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE OTHER TIRES ALSO.
