What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2016 Ford Edge, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
"Ford Emissions Recall 24E10 addresses defective factory PCM software parameters. This software defect caused unbalanced air-fuel ratios to ruin both catalytic converters on my 2016 Ford Edge (Bank 2 at 128k miles and Bank 1 at 157,552 miles). The dealership, [XXX] of [XXX], completed the 24E10 software flash under Repair Order #XXX, but Ford Corporate's SSSC portal (Contact ID: [XXX]) officially denied the consequential hardware replacement. They claim that because the new software prevents future codes, they are not responsible for the massive hardware degradation caused by forcing my engine to run on their old defective software for 157,000 miles before a fix was available. This is an attempt by Ford to evade financial responsibility for physical components destroyed by a known factory engineering defect." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Confirmed Coolant intrusion into the cylinder. Low coolant level, white exhaust smoke, runs rough, code P0303
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated while driving at an undisclosed speed. The contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number 25V544000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was on back order. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the brake pads and brake lines. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer, where an unknown diagnosis and repair were performed. The brake pads and brake lines had been replaced three times, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V544000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experience a failure.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
My vehicle previously had recall work, including power steering, but now I’m experiencing: * ‘Steering Assist Required’ warning, and the electric power steering is intermittently failing * Traction control and hill assist turned off * Headlights (and other lights) staying on even when the car is off * The vehicle pulls sharply to the left when braking * Despite multiple alignments and suspension/tie rod replacements, my new tires are wearing out rapidly
The power steering suddenly stopped working while I was driving. The steering became extremely stiff and difficult to control. At one point, the power assist abruptly returned, causing the steering wheel to jerk, and I nearly hit a pedestrian. It was a frightening and extremely dangerous situation. Brought the car to my mechanic multiple times, but the issue kept coming back. After 3 times, I brought the car to the ford dealership/ford mechanics and they confirmed the issue with the power steering was the fault of the rack and pinion. There was no indication of an issue prior to the power steering going out, however, as the steering goes out the power steering alert comes up on the cars dashboard, as wall as the loss of traction power.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with bearing failure. The contact was informed that the bearing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed torque converter and transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
Torque Converter fails causing transmission to be replaced. No engine light.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Ford dealership (Evansville Ford in Evansville, WI) came out to inspect my rear view camera for recall #25S89. After they did this the back up sensors that beep when someone is behind you when you are in reverse no longer work. It almost caused a crash.
This is for recall 25s89/ NHTSA 25V572. Took my car to the dealer and they confirmed and found C1001:01. They refused service and blamed a faulty wire harness. They stated fixed points which indicates tampering or previous repair which I am the original owner and have never had electrical work done on the vehicle. They are trying to charge me $1700 for a wire harness and refusing to do the safety recall
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
Saw there was a recall for wiper motor defects for Ford Explorer and Escape, per NHTSA Campaign Number 26V117. We had intermittent wiper failure with our 2016 Ford Edge Sport years back, which resulted in Ford repurchasing the vehicle back through the BBB (back in 2019). If carry-over parts / design are similar between the Explorer/Escape & Edge, then you may want to investigate incase the scope of this recall needs to be expanded. Please give me a call if you have any questions. (I'd like to stay anonymous as I am a Ford employee) I think we still have videos of this that we can share too.
Manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner: Sep 08,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number 25S89 NHTSA Recall Number 25V572 Recall Status Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.

I started my Edge as I always do and the display panel kept changing from audio, to settings and on and on. It went thru all the choices and it kept going for about 20 mins until I could safely pull over to find the problem. The radio continues to play thru .the clicking of it changing choices. When I pulled over I put the car in park and shut my edge off, waited a few mins and started it again. It continues to cycle thru the choices. I shut the car off again, opened my door , closed my door, then restarted my edge. This stopped it from cycling thru the options again. I am also wondering about the other two recalls for my edge, the rear brake line and the rear camera. It has been over 6 months since I was notified and would like these fixed or give me a new car. Brakes are a very important thing and I do not think you really know what will happen if I’m going 60 mph down the highway and I have to stop quick. Please reply to this and let me know about the cycling thru choices and if you have a fix yet for the other recalls
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
- door hinge failure - hinge assembly intact but the weld area failed and tore the base from the door structure - door wont close or open properly - not as of yet no warning lamps just a non functional door. the failure is identical to the linked complaint [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the windshield was cracked. The contact bought the vehicle and, after a while, contacted Safelite to replace the windshield. The Safelite employee removed the interior and exterior brackets on the windshield and placed a black tarp on the top part of the windshield. Most recently, the contact stated that after a rainstorm, water leaked inside the vehicle from the A-pillar. The vehicle was not repaired after the most recent failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 162,000.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.

Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
Two-piece Ford OEM lug nuts, used on numerous Ford models and years, are notorious for swelling, rendering them unremovable with a standard lug nut wrench. Although the issue is well-known by people in the auto and auto parts industries, it is not generally known by the average Ford owner. This places the driver of such a vehicle at risk of being stranded, unable to replace a flat tire with the spare tire, and subject to an extended period of the risks associated with disabled vehicles beside busy roadways. It also subjects them to a towing, or roadside service, expense that would otherwise be unnecessary. Since Ford has, thus far, not owned this as a recall issue, once the vehicle owner is aware of it, they also bear the cost of replacing the lug nuts -- $10 per nut for the same Ford two-piece nuts, or $5 to $15 or more for suitable one-piece nuts, plus $140 to $180 for labor (more if any of the nuts are swollen or seized) to install them.
The coolant is leaking into the engine area. Causing repeated coil failures and misfire and i assume damage to engine. I believe engine block needs to repaired or replaced. Also, during both dry and especially slippery/wet conditions... my vehicle is veering to both sides on its own while driving .my hands are on wheel going straight and it just drifts, slips and slides. Afraid I'm going to crash. No warning lights. Might be esc and or abs systems. It seems these are known issues for this year make and model but these recalls and warnings for some reason are not attached to my VIN. I need them attached to my VIN so that I can take to Ford dealership for repair before these system failures kill me.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
Head on collison. Air bags did not deploy. Car was totaled.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle ahead abruptly stopped, and the contact was unable to slow the vehicle in time. As a result, the contact's vehicle rear-ended the vehicle ahead. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V123000 (Air Bags), but the VIN was not included. A police report was filed, but no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 115,000.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
Severe constant moisture condensation build up inside rear light bar and rear side lights. The moisture is inside all clear plastic covers and some of the red inner plastic (which is underneath the clear plastic cover). It is available for inspection. This is causing a safety hazard due to reduced and dim light visibility. The constant moisture causes an increased risk of break lighting shortage, failure of lighting electrical system or the lights shutting off. With the reduced rear lighting visibility and risk possibility of rear lighting failure there is an increased risk of a crash. The dealer, I purchased the vehicle used from, tried taking it apart and drying the moisture but it came right back the next day. The vehicle has been seen at an auto garage. It is unkown if there has been warning lights or signals since I recently purchased it from the dealer who had it one month prior.
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
This is the second time the driver seatbelt has locked itself and won't extend. The fix is to remove the seatbelt and send it in for repair. This seems serious as it forces me to drive without a seatbelt.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the seat belt behind the driver's side in the second row failed to retract and became inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that in 2020 the passenger’s side second row seat belt had failed to retract. The vehicle was repaired; however, most recently, the seat belt failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
My RDU (rear diffrencial unit) went out at 122k miles directly after replacing the fluid at the shop. This repair was extreamly exprensive totalling out at 5k. With still owing 11k on my loan. I feel this is a ford defect that needs to be remediated.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
Four Nokian Ones 245/50R20 102V were purchased online from Priority Tires and shipped to Mr. Tire Hammonton NJ on [XXX]. All four tires are separating along the tread block edge on both sides. The tires are being held at Mr. Tire in Hammonton for inspection. Mr. Tire has maintained this vehicle since original purchase 2007 and with severe vibration occurring they determined the cause was tire separation along the outer edges of all four tires. The separation is cracking into the tread block and continuously around the entire circumference of each tire. A blow out is the safety concern and they recommended complete replacement of each tire. My safety and my drivers safety are at stake. I am a [XXX]. This vehicle is my only vehicle to get to my Cardiologist at DeBorah Heart and Lung as well Cardiologist at Jefferson University Hospital as well as the VA in Philadelphia. My concern is driven by Michelin Tires blowing out and recall a few years back. Mr. Tire documents every visit including oil changes, tire installation, tire rotation, 4-wheel rebalancing, 4-wheel alignment. There is, on file, their recommendations and full-service records. The severe vibration began after @30,000 miles and was unsolved due to the defective nature of the tread on all four tires. Several alignments, 4-wheel rebalancing and tire rotation have not resolved and increasing vibration for the past 18 months. Priority tires only looked at pictures denying all requests for in-person inspection. I have also requested Nokian Tyres send a representative for inspection - all denied by Priority Tires. Priority tires supposedly sent the defective warranty claim to Nokian Tyres with a response of "Road Hazzard" was the cause. No response to my request for their definition of "Road Hazzard" and policy procedures. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
