Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

On [XXX] ,I was driving in my car heading home with my [XXX] son in the backseat when my steering wheel just locked up on me and didn't want to turn and it was just stiff. I turn off my car immediately and waited about ten minutes to turn on. The car started up and the steering wheel became un loosen but this situation is off and on and it's scary . It's the third time now it happened. Next im experience a airbag warning symbol on my dashboard today [XXX] and that's even scarier driving in the car with a toddler because it's not safety. I don't know how to remove it off my dashboard and don't know how to fix the problem either. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I currently have the Airbag indicator light on my car lit up. I was recently recalled, and the work done in February of 2023. I do not have confidence in the dealership that completed the work initially due to circumstances that occured with my same car a few months later. The circumstances are that later in the year, my car was in the same shop for 48 days, and they could not diagnose, or fix the problem with the car. (not related to airbags, but my trust is broken) I then brought the car to a different dealership, and they were able to diagnose, and fix within 48 hours, not days. My concern is that the car was not properly put back together, and that I still have an Airbag issues, which is a safety concern for me, and potentially a passenger. My request is that, a recall is reissued on my car for Airbags, so that I do not need to go to the same dealership to complete the work, that should have been done correctly the first time.

The power steering assist randomly went out and caused me to almost crash into a wall when I was on the freeway taking the car home. The previous owner had gotten into an accident with the vehicle which had also resulted from the power steering randomly going out, and the power steering is now out completely on the vehicle and yet seems to come on randomly while having to manually steer the vehicle. I just got the vehicle and am the most recent owner, but since the vehicle has over 150,000 miles on it and it has been over 10 years, Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do to fix it. However, I know that these issues going on with the car (power steering assist and electronic throttle body issues) are related to the recall on the vehicle. There are apparently no active recalls on the vehicle, but I know that the previous owners may have taken the car in for problems related to the recall. However, I also know that the company is required to fix problems related to the recall no matter how many years the warranty is or how many miles the vehicle has on it, so I’m unsure why both Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do and that I’ll have to pay for a diagnostic fee and then the repair fees associated with the problem, and I just got the vehicle. I don’t feel that it’s fair that I pay for repair costs associated with a recall on several other Ford Fusion vehicles as well (2011-2012) when those recall related problems almost killed me, and upon researching it no other cars have power steering assist, electronic throttle body and airbag problems like the ford fusion.

It has been 16 months since I received initial communication about the recall for my driver's side air bag. I've received no other communication regarding this recall and the NHTSA website shows that a remedy is still not available. 16 months is not a timely manner to repair an issue that in the event of airbag deployment can cause serious injury or death. Being 16 months into this process with no remedy, no communication, and no repair in sight, I want to know when Ford is going to give up and give me a new car.

I called Ford at Sam Galloway in Fort Myers and I told them that I have at least 5 recalls but only one is important which is the passenger air bag. I was told that they have availability for September. I asked them, why wasn’t I informed of the recall? They couldn’t answer. I need to know where should I take my car. Thank you

Air Bag Recall has been unfixed since car was made in 2012. The recall was First started on March of 2021. I need to know my rights if the remedy is never made. The 1st issue is I don't feel safe driving vehicle and I can't get out into another vehicle which I understand is my issue but if Ford doesn't care about my safety why should I care what is technically owed to me. I didn't make a vehicle that could kill someone because of sup standard parts. 2 issue is I don't to get into an accident but if I do and survive my car Insurance would total set car because they can't as a company put a part on to a vehicle knowing that the Air Bag is still faulty. I do have gap if it came down to it but what if I didn't have that now Im Financially responsible for things I didn't cause or allow to Happen. All I'm asking is what are may rights. Does Ford as a Company have to help me if so how? Rental Car or Help try get me into another vehicle regardless of my Financial Situation.

Safety Recall Notice 21S12/NHTSA Recall 21V-158 ( Driver airbag recall) I received a letter from Ford, April 2021 about my car driver airbag needs to be repaired. RISK: Airbag inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike the driver causing serious injury or death. I will be killed by the airbag, not the wreck. The passenger airbag inflator was repaired after I was told to park car and I was given a rental for 3 months paid by Ford. When they started having to pay money, issue became VERY important. The letter states that when parts are available in sufficient quantities, I will be notified by Ford for repair. The car is 10 years old and FORD has had sufficient time to complete repairs. I am afraid to drive car and my stress level has increased. Ford is affecting my life and my resale valve. Please help in this matter.
