2012 Ford Fusion Tires & wheels Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the tire or wheel system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Tires & wheels reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I had purchased these tires P225/50R17 for my son‘s car in 2022. They have an 85,000 mile tread life warranty in April of this year. He had a blowout on the left rear tire where the tread separated from the tire and in late July this year is preparing for a 3500 mile trip as I was inspecting his car before his trip. I noticed the tire on the right rear looked to be defective. It looks like the tread where it meet the sidewall is separating from the tire on the inside with a tear about 8” long where the metal is showing. Two tires out of 4 losing their tread is disturbing and a concerning safety issue with these tires, see the Photos I have supplied.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the steering wheel was hard to turn. The low tire pressure message was displayed. There was another unknown system message being displayed. The contact indicated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power steering pump was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

Cooper Adventurer Tour 225/50r/17. Four Tires purchased 11/27/21 from Pep Boys. Front Driver-side Tire has a side bubble after 10,000 miles (75,000 tires). Pep Boys clerk refused warranty adjustment, citing abuse & neglect, but no visible markings present to indicate same. All signs point to manufacturer's defect. The defective tire has been replaced.

IT ALL STARTED WITH SLIPPING AND MOVEMENT IN THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. IT SO HAPPENED TO BE THE AXLE AND STEERING KNUCKLE. AS I WAS DOING A TIRE ROTATION I NOTICED THAT THE REAR LEFT TIRE HAS A WAVY INSIDE PATTERN WORN OUT AND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE IS WORN OUT FROM THE INSIDE. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING ALL THE WHEELS HAVE TO BE ADJUSTED CORRECTLY BECAUSE IF I WERE TO BUY A NEW SET OF TIRES THEY WILL BE WORN OUT THE SAME WAY I FOUND THE ORIGINAL SET AND ALL TIRES SHOULD BE WORN OUT EVENLY IF THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE ALIGNMENT IN ALL FOUR WHEELS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE HAS HUGE SLITS/CUTS INSIDE THE TIRE. THIS IS UNCOMMON AND ABNORMAL FOR BEING A 2012 VEHICLE AND BEING THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER TIRES. *TR

ALL FOUR TIRES HAD TO REPLACED BY ME AFTER ONLY 12,000 MILES. TWO OF THE TIRES BLEW OUT. POWER STEERING FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. SERVICE ADVANCETRAC IS ALSO NO LONGER WORKING. I HAVE TRIED TAKING MY CARE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX ANYTHING. THEY TOLD ME THE TIRES WERE MY FAULT, AND I TOLD THEM EITHER THEY THINK I AM STUPID OR THEY WERE NOT THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHED IF THEY THINK I BELIEVE ANY OF THESE ISSUES WERE MY FAULT. I CALLED FORD AND THEY WERE NO HELP. THEY TOLD ME IT IS UP TO THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY DECIDE TO FIX ANYTHING BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT OWNED BY FORD. I CURRENTLY HAVE LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW . FORD IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY AND DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY . THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO WAS PARK PLACE MOTORCARS IN DALLAS TX. THEY HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR BUT IF THIS WAS HONORED BY FORD I WILL TAKE IT. NO WAY I EVER BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR

Crash reported

I WAS TURNING ONTO THE STREET AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND AS I APPROACHED MY HOME, THE ADVANCE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW LIGHT CAME ON. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AS I TRIED TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND I RAN OVER THE CABLE BOX ON THE CURB BECAUSE IT WAS HARD TO TURN AT THAT POINT. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES AT LEAST THREE TIMES. LIGHT CONTINUALLY CAME ON INDICATING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. CAR WAS PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 2, 2013. DEALERSHIP OFFERED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, WE SIGNED PAPERS FOR IT. WHEN IT CAME TIME TO USE IT, THE WARRANTY WAS NOT THERE. WE DIDN'T SIGN ANY CANCELLATION PAPERS FOR IT. NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH A BOGUS DEALERSHIP/FINANCE COMPANY AND PAY FOR A PART THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE NEEDED. *TR

DRIVING TO WORK LIKE ANY OTHER DAY, SUDDENLY I HEARD A POP. WASN'T TOO SURE WHAT IT WAS BUT THEN MY TIRE PRESSURE LOW MESSAGE POPPED UP. AFTER REALIZING WHAT IT WAS, I HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO CHANGE IT OUT AND I EXAMINED THE TIRE AND SAW THAT THE OUTSIDE WALL WAS TORE UP AND THERE WASN'T ANY HOLES IN THE TREAD. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
