HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH FAILURE
ON NOVEMBER 30, 2001, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) CONDUCTED SAFETY RECALL 01V-364 FOR THE SUBJECT VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 16, 1999 AND AUGUST 28, 2001 TO REMEDY A DEFECTIVE HAZARD SWITCH THAT WOULD CAUSE A LOSS OF HAZARD AND STOP LAMP ILLUMINATION.THE HAZARD SWITCH IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE VEHICLE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH.ODI OPENED THIS INVESTIGATION BASED ON REPORTS THAT SOME CONSUMERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL OR THAT THEY HAD REPAIRS DONE UNDER 01V-364 BUT EXPERIENCED SUBSEQUENT MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FAILURES.THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH SUPPORTS THE OPERATION OF CRUISE CONTROL, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND TURN SIGNALS IN ADDITION TO HAZARD AND STOP LAMPS. ON MAY 21, 2008, GM NOTIFIED THE AGENCY THAT IT ERRONEOUSLY MISSED IDENTIFYING 5,862 VEHICLES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN RECALL 01V-364.GM WILL NOW NOTIFY OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES UNDER A NEW NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 08V-231.OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JUNE 17.THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF BRAKE LAMP FAILURE WAS A DESIGN CHANGE FROM COPPER TO BRASS CONTACT MATERIAL IN THE HAZARD SWITCH.THIS CHANGE WAS EFFECTIVE FOR VEHICLES BUILT AFTER SEPTEMBER 16, 1999.GM CHANGED THE MATERIAL BACK TO COPPER FOR VEHICLES BUILT AFTER AUGUST 28, 2001. THE REMEDY PART FOR BOTH 01V-364 AND 08V-231 CONTAINS COPPER CONTACTS.GM'S DATA SHOWS THAT LESS THAN 1% OF VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 01V-364 REQUIRED ADDITIONAL SUBSEQUENT REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE HAZARD OR MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH.THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.

Driver and Passenger door will not stay shut while driving, I almost fall out the passenger door while my boyfriend was driving the car from Fett's city motor in omaha nebraska when we bought it the door wouldnt shut we have to lift the doors and slim them shut and lock them and that doesnt even work. My Little 15 year old baby brother and his girlfriend was riding with me while driving down [XXX] and the both doors flew open and i didnt have anywhere to pull over to shut the doors my little brother fall out and his girlfriend. I put down $500 on [XXX] and when we bought the car Fette's motors knew the Driver and Passenger doors wasn't shutting the correct way and they still let me buy the car and that is a health hazard and dangerous. Fett's Motor shouldnt be allowed to sell cars or at least sell cars that isn't a a dangerous zone or safety hazard. My 15 year old baby brother had to go to the ER because he and his girlfriend fall out the passenger door and driver door. The contact owns a 2001 GMC Jimmy. The contact stated that while at a complete stop with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle turned off independently. The contact stated that he had to depress the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal at the same time to keep the vehicle running. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the spider fuel injectors needed to be replaced. Additionally, there was very low compression on cylinder #1 and #3 of 55 PSI. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was unrepairable. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF RECALLS FOR THE 2001 GMC JIMMY, MAINLY RECALL #01073A & B STATING EXT. LIGHTING BRAKE SWITCH/ NO REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. I'M TOLD THAT THE SERVICE WAS APPARENTLY COMPLETED ON MY VEHICLE IN 2002, BUT ANOTHER RECALL CAME OUT IN 2008 STATING THE SAME PROBLEM. GM CANADA IS REFUSING TO DO THE NECESSARY RECALL ON MY TRUCK STATING THAT IT WAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED AND THAT MY VEHICLE IS OVER A DECADE OLD, SO IT'S MY PROBLEM. I WON'T BE PURCHASING ANOTHER GMC IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THIS ISSUE. MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS STOP WORKING AND ITS THE SWITCH THAT NEEDS REPLACING. THANKS FOR NOTHING GM! YOU JUST LOST A LONG TERM CUSTOMER OVER A RECALL PART. DEC 2001 - RECALL #01V364000 MAY 2008 - RECALL #01V364 / 01073B

MY SON ASKED ME IF I COULD TELL WHAT WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND INSIDE THE 2001 GMC JIMMY. WHEN CHECKING FOR TURN SIGNALS,LIGHTS, ETC, I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT WHAT LEAST WHEN THE CLICKING NOISE IS HEARD, THERE ARE NO BRAKE LIGHTS. OTHER TIMES THEY WORK. DAVIS STANLEY DEALERSHIP SAID ALL RECALLS HAD BEEN FIXED. IF THE RECALLS WERE FIXED, THE REPLACEMENTS APPARENTLY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE ORIGINALS. I REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE IDEA THAT MY GRANDDAUGHTER IS BEING DRIVEN AROUND IN A CAR THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS BECAUSE OF A SAFETY ENGINEERING PROBLEM THAT GM ONLY HAD TO WORRY ABOUT REPAIRING ONCE EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN AFTER THE ORIGINAL REPAIR. IS THERE A SITE THAT WILL TELL WHO AND WHEN THE RECALLS WERE FIXED. THANKS *TR

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
This PI communicates the requirement to provide a pico file to receive diagnostic assistance from TAC.
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have an unusual noise and is difficult to identify, isolate or pinpoint. Technician should get record a sound clip or take a video of the noise for assessment by engineering. Technician will need to call General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
This Preliminary Information communicates to the dealer the process for downloading or updating operating software for the Tire Pressure Monitor, Active Fuel Injector tester, multi media tester, PICO Scope, GR8 starting/charging tester and Vehicle Data Recorder tools, giving website address and step by step instructions to complete the update.
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning blows warm air. Before calling General Motors Technical Assistance Center technician will need to have high and low pressures, outside temperature, humidity, and vent temperature.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Vehicle Wide Programming (VWP) is a new process to update software on GM Vehicles. It provides the ability via a single selection within Techline Connect to first identify which modules need updating and then proceed to updating affected modules (with some exceptions). The updating of modules is completed in parallel instead of the technician needing to update one module at a time. This allows a more streamlined approach for dealers and customers.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
