ENGINE PRODUCES EXCESS HEAT THAT CAN BURN YOU AND WHEN HOT RUNS ERRATIC AT IDLE. ESPECIALLY NOTICBLE WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND THE SYSTEMS GETS SO HOT IT CAN BURN YOUR LEGS. I HAVE AN OLDER HARLEY AND THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH IT
THE COMPENSATOR SPROCKET FAILED WHICH DESTROYED THE CLUTCH BASKET THAT SENT CHUNKS OF THE CLUTCH BASKET INTO THE PRIMARY CHAIN LOCKING UP THE MOTOR INSTANTLY AT 65 MILES AN HOUR LUCKILY I'VE RODE MY ENTIRE LIFE AND DIDN'T CRASH OR GET HIT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM SINCE THE NEW PRIMARY SET UP WAS INTRODUCED HARLEY WILL NOT TAKE THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY I GUESS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE CRASHED OR DIED
BIKE STALLS AND STOPS WHEN AT A LIGHT. ALSO IDLE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN 7000 AND 12000 RPMS THEN JUMPS TO 14000. ALMOST HAD 2 ACCIDENTS WITH WIFE ON THE BACK . BROUGHT TO REPAIR TWICE SPENT ALMOST $600 DOLLARS. RETURNED TO HARLEY DEALER AND THEY SAID OH THAT'S JUST WHAT HAPPENS WITH 2007 STREET GLIDES. ITS A "GLITCH " HARLEY HAD. ALL TOURING HARLEYS FROM 07-10 WITH STOCK COMPENSATOR SPROCKETS SEEN TO FAIL AROUND 25,000 MILES AND HAVE TO BE REPLACED DO TO WEAK DIAPHRAGM SPRINGS. *TR
AT 70 MPH ON MY 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON FLHX THE COMPENSATOR BROKE APART. I COULD HEAR SOME NOISE ON THE LEFT SIDE WHERE THE PRIMARY COVER IS. AFTER STOPPING AND THEN STARTING THE MOTOR BACK UP, WHEN I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION BACK IN GEAR THE PRIMARY LOCKED UP AND FROZE EVERYTHING UP. IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. IF YOU LOOK AT FORUMS, THIS SEAMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH ALL OF THE NEWER HARLEY'S WITH THE 96" MOTOR. WITH MINE BRAKING THE WAY IT DID, IT MESSED UP THE TRANSMISSION SHAFT AS WELL AS THE MAIN ENGINE SHAFT RESULTING IN A (ESTIMATED) $6000 REPAIR. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT. THE HARLEY DAVISDSON TECHNICIAN REPLACED FUEL PUMP TO FUEL FILLTER HOSE DUE TO A HOLE IN THE ORIGINAL. THEY REPLACED THE ORIGINAL HOSE WITH A SHORTER HOSE .I LOOKED UP RECALLS ON HARLEY DAVIDSON AND FOUND THAT 2008 HARLEY HAVIDSON HAVE A RECALL ON THAT SAME HOSE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON FLHX MOTORCYCLE EQUIPPED WITH DUNLOP TIRES, SIZE: 130/70818. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WAS CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT IT WAS FINE FOR THE TIRES TO EXHIBIT SMALL CRACKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE TIRES WERE EXCHANGED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,300. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON FLHX. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 0-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHIFT FROM THE DRIVING GEAR INTO NEUTRAL GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. ALSO WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE REAR WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED FOR THAT PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.

SERVICE BULLETIN M1684: MARKET SPECIFIC BATTERY INTRODUCTION. PURPOSE: Initial Release. This bulletin informs dealers of the availability of new batteries for new Original Equipment (OE) vehicle production and in the Parts and Accessories (P&A) catalog. Availability of the new Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries will vary by market and will be transitioning over the next few months. NOTE: The ring terminal screws are not compatible between Leoch and East Penn batteries. The new batteries will include new ring terminal screws, which must be used. The ring terminal screws from the old battery need to be discarded.

SERVICE BULLETIN M1650: MILWAUKEE EIGHT AND TWIN CAM CAMSHAFT DRIVE GEAR RETENTION KIT CHANGES. PURPOSE: This bulletin informs dealers that changes have been made to the Camshaft Drive Gear Retention Kit and service proceduresfor the Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam applications. In an effort to increase the clamp load of the camshaft drive sprocket bolted joint and prevent the drive bolt from loosening in high lift camshaft applications, the following changes have been made: a. The camshaft drive bolt final torque has been increased to 40 ft-lbs (54 N·m) for all Milwaukee-Eight and certain Twin Cams models. See Vehicles Affected. This increase in torque will make the bolt a one time use application. Never re-use a camshaft drive bolt for service after tightening to the increased specification. See service manual for updated procedure. b. A new camshaft drive gear retention kit (Part No. 91800088) has been created. This new kit is compatible with all Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam engines using Parts and Accessories (P&A) camshaft and Original Equipment (OE) camshaft applications. See Instruction sheet for specific fitment on Twin Cam OE camshaft applications. The new kit utilizes friction washers to prevent unwanted rotation of components in the drive sprocket bolted joint under stress. The use of liquid threadlocker on the threads of the bolt and pre-lube to the head of the bolt flange and outside of the washer help the bolt reach full stretch when tightening. NOTE: Engines produced at all Harley-Davidson Motor Company (HDMC) plants will not come with the new kits installed. They will continue to be produced with (Part No. 25566-06).
