NHTSA COMPLAINT — SHORT VERSION I am reporting a persistent, unresolved, safety-related steering defect in my 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 (leased 10/12/2024). Beginning in September 2025 at approximately 15,412 miles, the vehicle exhibits: (1) uncontrolled steering wheel shifting left and right at highway speeds; (2) hard pulling to the left when accelerating or decelerating; and (3) the vehicle swaying or jerking within its lane without driver input. I described the issue to the dealer as "pretty dangerous to drive" — this language is documented in Repair Order #XXX. Despite 6+ documented repair attempts over 9 service visits from September 2025 through May 2026, the defect remains unresolved. Repairs attempted include: two 4-wheel alignments, road-force balancing, steering angle sensor calibration, front camera calibration, new front view camera installation, and a complete steering gear box (R-MDPS) replacement. The vehicle was out of service for 129 documented days. CRITICAL ADMISSION: Dealer Repair Order #XXX(11/5/2025) explicitly states that Hyundai's Technical Service Bulletin procedures for this steering defect only apply at speeds of 40 MPH and below, and that "above that speed there are too many variables." The defect occurs at highway speeds above 40 MPH. This is a written admission that no manufacturer-approved repair procedure exists for the defect as experienced. Hyundai Techline Case #XXX was opened in January 2026. After Techline involvement and new camera installation, the technician's own repair order states "concern still present" after road testing. Hyundai Motor America corporate case #XXX was opened, and Hyundai has now stated they cannot process a buyback or lemon case. "While driving a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 at approximately 10,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a sudden, catastrophic Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure with no advance warning. The vehicle instantly experienced a total electrical shutdown while the car was on the ramp. The failure completely bypassed and disabled standard safety redundancies: the electronic parking brake/emergency brake system failed , and the 12-volt backup battery died instantly, making it impossible to activate the hazard lights. The vehicle became a completely invisible, immovable dead weight on an active roadway, presenting an imminent, extreme threat of crash, injury, or death to myself and surrounding motorists. I was holding my breath and have to call AAA road side emergency assistance, only when an external battery is connected I could move the car in "Turtle Mode" to a safe spot.The manufacturer has replaced the ICCU, but the total failure of critical emergency safety and braking indicators poses a fundamental safety defect that needs federal investigation."

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6. The contact stated that while reversing out of the garage, the vehicle suddenly stalled, with the message "12-Volt System Deactivated" displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the computer control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the computer control module failure was caused by using a faulty phone charger inside the vehicle. The computer control module was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 300.

I was driving at 60mph. I heard a sudden pop that felt like it came from behind me / under the car. While I glanced to see if I ran over something (I did not), the car suddenly felt like it was about to stall. It was slowing down quickly and dramatically. My safety was in danger as I quickly dropped speeds in heavy traffic on a freeway without warning. I was able to maintain control, and I turned my hazards on. I noticed that I was maintaining speed around 35-40 mph (no matter how heavy I hit the accelerator), and I moved to the right lane and continued while wondering if my car would survive all the way home. Luckily I was only about 1 mile from my house at that point, so I proceeded at a low rate of speed and ultimately made it home. It was scary, sudden, and put me and others on the road in danger. A couple of warnings popped up saying "Electrical System issue" and something else that was related to electronics. The vehicle was towed to the dealership that night, and diagnostics and repairs began the following day. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer to be an ICCU failure that needs to be replaced. There were zero warnings prior to the failure--the car was working perfectly up until that moment. Anything is available for inspection, but as I mentioned it's being replaced as we speak so the broken / malfunctioning part wouldn't be there anymore if someone looked at it.

On April 10,2026 I heard a pop while driving and a check electrical system light came on, my vehicle lost power while driving. This appears to be a common problem with ioniq5 and 6 going back years. Also failure in their ICCU and 12 volt batteries.A veh. Losing power unexpectedly could lead to a collision, injury or worse.my Ioniq 6 was recently serviced and only has 14,794 miles.I respectfully urge the national highway traffic safety administration to: 1.continue and expand investigation into electrical system failures in the Hyundai ioniq 6 and 5. Also 2. Ensure that affected vehicles are properly repaired with permanent solutions or the company should have to buy back the unsafe defective vehicles. Also 3. Require clearer and more immediate warnings to drivers regarding the risk of sudden power loss. Drivers should not have to keep experiencing this safety risk, after all these years of it being reported.

The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle crashed into the side of the house. The contact stated that there was damage to the house and damage to the front bumper of the vehicle. The contact stated that his wife was unhurt but was shaken up by the crash. The contact stated that as a precaution, he drove her to the emergency room for examination and was cleared by the hospital. The contact stated that he called the police, who wrote a report. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,112.

Certain 2022 – 2024 model year IONIQ 5, 2024 model year IONIQ 5 Robotaxi, and 2023 – 2025 model year IONIQ 6 vehicles may require a replacement of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and ICCU Fuse. At Hyundai, we are committed to providing vehicles of outstanding quality and value. In an effort to meet this commitment, the warranty coverage for the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and ICCU Fuse Replacement has been extended to 15 years/ 180,000 miles from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use (whichever occurs first) and is valid for original and subsequent owners.

This bulletin provides information related to the navigation and head unit software changes introduced in the 2026 1st Navigation Map and Software Update. The changes may vary depending on vehicle type, model, and navigation system. Refer to the 2026 1st Navigation Map and Software Update Key Improvements and Additional Improvements tables in this TSB for a list of specific changes. The software can be downloaded via Navigation Updater (NAU) and updated by USB.

Hyundai is extending the warranty coverage for the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and ICCU fuse to 15 years/180,000 miles from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use (whichever occurs first) and is valid for original and subsequent owners. Follow the flowchart in Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 26-BE-010H to check for an active or stored occurrence of any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that requires replacement of the ICCU and replace the ICCU and ICCU fuse if necessary. Some vehicles may have an active DTC that requires ICCU replacement. Please note that any vehicles under 15 years/180,000 miles are covered by this TSB, even if vehicle is within High Voltage Warranty of 10 years/120,000 miles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued an urgent safety advisory regarding dangerous, counterfeit driver‑side airbag inflators manufactured by Jilin Province Detiannuo Automobile Safety System Co., Ltd. (DTN), that have been identified in U.S. vehicles following prior crashes, theft, or non‑certified airbag replacements. These inflators are not approved for use, may rupture during deployment, and have caused serious injuries and fatalities. Please see attached announcement, provided by NHTSA, for more details.
