Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

  • Body & structure133.3%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

BROUGHT IN MY 2000 ISUZU RODEO TO A DEALERSHIP ON 01/21/11 DUE TO A SAFETY RECALL WHICH WAS ISSUED IN OCT,2010. ADVISED THAT INSTALLING THE NEW RECALL PART WOULD BE POINTLESS DUE TO RUST ON THE FRAME OF THE RODEO. ADVISED THAT MY RODEO WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO EXTENT OF RUST AND WAS ADVISED OF NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE FRAME. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWED THIS IS A MORE THAN COMMON ISSUE PERTAINING TO THE ISUZU RODEO. ON 01/26/11 I WAS ADVISED BY ISUZU DEALERSHIP THAT ISUZU WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT INSTEAD WAS REFERRED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. WAS INFORMED OF AN ADDITIONAL OPTION WHICH I WAS TOLD ISUZU WOULD BUY BACK THE CAR FOR THE COST OF THE BRACKET AND REPAIRS. *TR

IN DECEMBER, 2005, I NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE WAS KNOCKING. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS BONE DRY. I HAD JUST REPLACED THE OIL 4,500 MILES BEFORE, AND CHECKED THE OIL 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE OIL AND THOUGHT ALL WAS WELL. I WENT TO WORK THE NEXT DAY, AND STILL HAD A MINOR KNOCKING. AFTER LEAVING WORK, I WENT TO GET GAS. UPON ENTERING THE GAS STATION, MY TROOPER SHUT DOWN. WHEN I RE-STARTED THE TROOPER, THE ENGINE HAD AN EXTREME POUNDING. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. RIGHT AWAY, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE ENGINE, MY MECHANIC TOLD ME I HAD BLOWN MY ENGINE. WHEN I ASKED HIM HOW HE COULD TELL BE JUST SIMPLY LISTENING TO THE ENGINE, HE HAD TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN ENOUGH OF THE TROOPERS AND RODEOS TO KNOW THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE TROOPER TOWED TO THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER. THEY WANTED PROOF THAT I CHANGED THE OIL IN MY TROOPER EVERY 3,000 MILES (I NEVER KEPT RECEIPTS). PLUS, THE ISUZU TROOPER OWNERS MANUAL CLEARLY STATES OIL SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 7,500, EXCEPT UNDER EXTREME DRIVING CONDITIONS. MY TROOPER WAS NEVER DRIVEN IN EXTREME CONDITIONS. AFTER A WEEK OR SO, THE SERVICE MANAGER OFFERED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE ($7,400 TOTAL COST OF NEW ENGINE). I TOLD HIM THAT I AM NOT ACCEPTING THIS OFFER, BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD, OR WHO ARE HAVING, THE SAME PROBLEM. PLUS, THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER NEVER EVEN TORE THE ENGINE DOWN TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM, OR WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT. HOW CAN HE HAVE OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE INSIDE ON MY TROOPER. I'LL TELL YOU WHY, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THERE ARE, AND HAVE BEEN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I THEN CALLED THE CONSUMER SERVICE DEPT. OF ISUZU AMERICA. THEY COULD HAVE CARED LESS WHAT MY PROBLEM WAS. SO HERE I AM WITH A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER, THAT ONLY HAS 49,000 MILES ON IT WITH A BLOWN ENGINE, AND I STILL OWE $13,000 ON THE VEHICLE. *NM

I PURCHASED A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER IN EARLY 2005. IT HAD 32,000 MILES ON IT. AT APPROX 49,000 MILES, WITHOUT WARNING, MY ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK LOUDLY. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE OIL, AND IT WAS BONE DRY. I FILLED UP THE OIL, AND PROCEEDED HOME. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO WORK. WHEN LEAVING WORK, I ENTERED A GAS STATION, AND THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN. UPON RE-STARTING THE TRUCK, THERE WAS A VERY, VERY LOUD KNOCKING. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL GARAGE. THEY TOLD ME I THREW A ROD AND WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER, AND ASKED THEM WHAT THEY PLAN ON DOING ABOUT THIS. AFTER INVESTIGATION, THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT MAY 2005. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED DECEMBER 05. THEY SAID THEY AGREE TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE COST OF AN ENGINE. ENGINE AND LABOR WOULD COST $7,400, SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3,200. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH SINCE I KEPT EXCELLENT CARE OF THE TRUCK AND CHANGED MY OIL EVERY 4,000 - 4,500 MILES. I THEN CALLED ISUZU CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING, AND WERE VERY RUDE AND UNINTERESTED IN WHAT I HAD TO SAY. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE TROOPER, AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACE PARTS AND MAKE REPAIRS FOR CUSTOMERS ALL THE TIME, EVEN IF THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED OUT OF "GOOD FAITH". THEY SAID THAT IT KEEPS THE CUSTOMERS HAPPY AND KEEPS THEM RETURNING. THIS IS WHAT I HAD ASKED ISUZU TO DO, BUT AS STATED EARLIER, THEY REALLY HAD NO CONCERN FOR MY PROBLEM. I AM FINDING MANY OTHERS ON THE WEB THAT HAVE HAD, OR WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR RODEO'S OR TROOPERS. TOO MANY IN FACT, THAT I AM ALMOST CERTAIN THIS HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THIS BUY SEVERAL PEOPLE AS WELL. ALL I WANT IS MY TROOPER TO BE REPAIRED IN "GOOD FAITH" SO I CAN MOVE ON. HELP !!!*JB

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL

This bulletin provides instructions with regard to the Isuzu Commercial Vehicle (CV) Warranty Parts Center on the topics of parts retention, parts preparation for shipping, and administration. NOTE: Effective June 1, 2021, dealers/service centers must return parts requested by Isuzu to the CV Warranty Parts Center using the prepaid shipping labels provided by Isuzu. See the Freight Reimbursement section for details. The CV Warranty Parts Center process is used to obtain parts replaced by Isuzu Dealerships and Isuzu Engine Certified Service Centers (excluding Canada) to enable Isuzu to perform root cause analysis of customer product concerns. The CV Warranty Parts Center issues part return requests to the dealerships/service centeres to obtain the desired parts. Dealers/service centers must return the requested parts to the CV Warranty Parts Center so that it is received within 20 days of notification of the request. Failure to comply with the request may result in partial or complete chargeback of the claim associated with the request. Chargebacks for non-returned parts are processed automatically by the CV Warranty Parts Center computer systems. To ensure compliance with these requirements and avoid a chargeback situation, it is highly recommended that an individual (and a back-up person) be assigned the task of processing these requests as quickly as possible.

The following is a list of the Isuzu-recommended Threebond product part numbers identified in the various Isuzu Workshop Manuals and bulletins. If a Threebond product is unavailable, we recommend that you utilize the chart below to find equivalent of similar products (when available) from Loctite and Permatex.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
