SEPTEMBER 2007 - FORD MOTOR COMPANY SENT A LETTER STATING THAT THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS POSING A RISK OF AND UNDERHOOD FIRE. THIS CONDITION MAY OCCUR EITHER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OR WHEN IT IS BEING OPERATED, EVEN IF THE SPEED CONTROL IS NOT IN USE. THIS WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN OCTOBER 2007, AT THE TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT THE FUSED WIRING HARNESS WAS NOT AVAILABLE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THE BEST THAT THE DEALER COULD DO WAS DISCONNECT THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM. THAT WAS IN OCTOBER OF 2007. THE LOCAL DEALER AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAVE BEEN CONTACTED EACH WEEK TO FIND OUT IF THE PART IS IN FOR THIS REPAIR, AND EACH WEEK WE ARE TOLD THAT IT IS NOT IN STOCK YET, HERE IT IS THE END OF MAY 2008 AND WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE "FUSED WIRING HARNESS (RECALL 05S28). *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
