Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
1
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

HELLO MY NAME IS [XXX] I LIVE IN WASHINGTON STATE AND I OWN A 1992 ISUZU RODEO 4X4 WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS ISUZU RODEO HAS GONE THROUGH 4 TRANSMISSIONS IN THE PAST 1 YEAR AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE IS GOING BAD. I HAVE PUT OVER $3000.00 INTO THIS VEHICLE AND IT STILL IS HAVING PROBLEMS. I HAVE TALKED TO ABOUT 10 PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEMS HERE IN THE OLYMPIA AREA. THE COTTMAN TRANSMISSION COMPANY GAVE ME A WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY KEEP TELLING ME IT IS SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES THE TRANSMISSION. THEY TELL ME NOW THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND THEY REFUSE TO GIVE ME A WARRANTY ON THIS ITEM SINCE IT IS AN ELECTRICAL UNIT.. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS CONSTANT PROBLEM? THE VEHICLE IS ONLY WORTH ABOUT $3000.00 AND NOW I HAVE OVER THAT JUST INTO THE TRANSMISSION.. COTTMAN WILL PUT THE SECOND TCM IN FOR ANOTHER 1000.00 AND HE SAID IF THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD AGAIN ALSO THE WARRANTY IS VOID BECAUSE OF AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WHICH MEANS I WILL HAVE TO REBUILD THE TRANS. AGAIN AND IT WILL COST ANOTHER 1500.00 - 2500.00. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
