TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1991 JAGUAR XJ6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CABLES FOR THE SEAT BELT MODULE WERE REPLACED ACCORDING TO A RECALL. CURRENTLY, THE RESTRAINT MODULE IS FAULTY AND CAUSING THE SEAT BELT TO EXTEND ACROSS THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE CONTACT IS DRIVING. HE FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT CAN BECOME TANGLED UP WITH THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAUSE A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REPAIR THE SEAT BELT MODULE UNDER WARRANTY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
