1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY WIFE USES THIS VEHICLE. ON A FAMILY TRIP IN APRIL I HEARD A RATTLING THAT SOUNDED LIKE A DOOR PARTIALLY OPENED BUT I COULD NOT LOCATE THE SOURCE. A COUPLE DAYS LATER I WENT TO SUPERMARKET AND TRIED TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH WITH MY KEY. THE REAR HATCH WOULD NOT OPEN. I USED THE ELECTRIC DOOR LATCH AND THE REAR HATCH OPENED. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED THE THREE MOUNTING BOLTS FOR THE LOCK MECHANISM WERE GONE. I PUT IN THREE METRIC BOLTS (SAE BOLTS WOULD NOT FIT IN THE PRESENT HOLES) BUT FOUND THEY LOOSENED OVER TIME. I FINALLY PUT IN 3 BOLTS WITH LOCK WASHERS AND DOUBLE NUTS TO PREVENT BACK OFF. I OBSERVED THAT THE METAL WAS TOO SOFT AND FATIGUED BECAUSE THE THREADS WERE NON-EXISTENT, WHICH MEANT IT USE AS A LOCK ASSEMBLY IS INCORRECT AND DANGEROUS. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN WHO RIDE IN THIS VAN AND I AM VERY CONCERNED. THIS UNIT WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL ON 4/23/96, RECALL #CFXG6405, AUTH CODE 3831, PERFORMED BY CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH OF PARAMUS NEW JERSEY, 234 ROUTE 4 EAST, PHONE 845-0701. CHRYSLER IS A VERY DIFFICULT COMPANY TO DEAL WITH. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT HELPFUL. I TRIED CALLING BUT THE LINE IS CONSTANTLY BUSY. THIS MATTER SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *AK
