2014 RAM 1500 Problems

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving approximately 40-50 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist, causing the steering wheel to be difficult to turn. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the rack and pinion was replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering); however, the VIN and model were not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Electronic power steering rack and pinion failed and made the steering wheel very difficult to turn. This caused the truck to turn wide into a parking lot and almost strike another vehicle. This issue is a known problem for other RAM models, but does not officially apply to mine. Now, the truck will start fine, as soon as you turn the steering wheel, an alert comes up on the dash and the steering wheel is difficult to turn.

While driving over a bump, the vehicle stopped and was restarted. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the wiring harness needed to be replaced; however, the part had been discontinued. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case but declined a buyback. The Attorney General was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The front fuel tank strap mounting bracket broke. There is a recall (U-04/NHTSA 18V-160) for model years 2009-2012 for this issue. It also was added to models thru 2018 as TSB/Ext. Warranty #14-002-18 Rev. A., which expired on my vehicle in March 2026. This means that the expense will be out of my pocket. What I don't understand is, it is a known safety issue on 2009-2018 Ram 1500 trucks, but only a recall for model years 2009-12. And since the recall doesn't presently cover my model year (2014), there was no notification of this issue sent to me. I believe that since it is a known issue included in a recall/TSB of model years through 2018, the recall should be extended to cover all model years. This failure could put myself and others at risk because there is only one bracket holding my fuel tank on, which could cause loss of control of vehicle or a fire to the vehicle if the remaining bracket breaks. This issue was discovered by a private auto repair shop, in which there were no warnings signals from the vehicle.

I have had the ABS control module show an internal fault twice now in 3 years. The latest incident was while I was towing my travel trailer. When the unit sets a code, it disables the trailer brakes, along with the anti-lock brakes. This could be really bad in on a hill or sudden need to stop. The first occurrence was in 2023. I was unable to find a replacement, so i found a company to repair the unit. After the current incident, I have started looking for a new unit. They are still not readily available. How can this not be a major safety problem? Manufacturers are required to provide ABS systems in cars, but not the parts to fix the systems? This seems to be a very common problem with the 2013-2018 Ram 1500 trucks. The problem part shows C2200, ABS module internal; internal electronic fault.

With no warning my truck lost all anti-lock braking, traction control, stability control, trailer brakes, and 4x4 capability (computer will not allow 4x4 to engage). This is due to an "abs module" failure. Ram/Dodge has no new units available to repair this faulty part and no ETA on if/when they will be available. There was thankfully no accident with this failure but obviously, it could lead to one. Especially since the part cannot be fixed. Owners are left with scavenging used parts that are still operational. As in my case, my vehicle will have to be "fixed" with an abs module from a wrecked truck! Also, the electronic steering can fail with no warnings. Leading to complete loss of power steering, traction control, and stability control. This failed on my truck as I was driving as well. Thankfully again, no accident with this failure. There is no new factory part to replace this unit either. I had this repaired with a remanufactured unit that failed in one month, then it was replaced again and seems to be fixed for now. These are keystone components to an automobile and it is unacceptable for them to just stop working and have no available parts to the responsible consumer. This leads to owners having a useless worthless vehicle rotting in the driveway or a highly unsafe vehicle on the road to those irresponsible. I want to also shed light to the fact that these issues encompass model years from 2009 to brand new 2026 Ram trucks. There are people with 2025-2026 Ram trucks dealing with this same issue, my vehicles age isn't an iota to molten issues under the surface to Ram owners! No one is asking for a hand out but to merely repair our vehicles.

The owner paid out of pocket for this repair. Dealership documentation shows the steering failure occurred alongside multiple electrical system faults. During the same service period, the dealership also performed multiple safety recall repairs, including control module and software updates. These systems are integrated, and the steering failure occurred in conjunction with electrical and control module issues later addressed under recall. This raises concern that the original failure may be related to defects now identified under active safety recalls. The owner incurred significant repair costs prior to recall correction. This situation presents a potential safety related defect involving steering and electrical system interaction.

While towing a 17ft trailer I had to slam on the brakes to avoid another vehicle. The trailer brakes and ABS on my truck did not work. I managed to avoid the other vehicle but the ABS, trailer and parking brake light all came on a couple minutes later. The lights went off but came back on a couple of days later. On XXX I took the truck to the Ram dealer in [XXX], where I originally bought it from and they diagnosed the brake module had gone out. Code C2200-49. On XXX I was informed that there is not part available to make the repair. This is an important safety component for towing a trailer and is required in [XXX]. I am reporting a safety concern with my 2014 Ram 1500, which recently reached 100,000 miles. The ABS module has failed, and replacement parts are not available to repair this critical safety system. 1. Front fuel tank strap bracket has corroded and strap no longer attaches, my vehicle is available for inspection upon request. (appears this was a problem for 2009-2012 ram trucks) 2. If the tank falls, fuel will let loose with the opportunity for fire. 3. Yes, (independent service center). My mechanic wants me to ratchet strap the tank up to run the fuel low (because the tank will need to be dropped to repair/replace). He can't do the work. I need to contact a welding shop to weld new brackets to my truck frame. 4. No, there was no physical accident up to this point. The strap is hanging and unable to reattach because the frame bracket is rotted out. 5. No, just saw the strap hanging under the truck. (Additionally, my truck doesn't come up as having a current recall for airbags but i have the airbag light on the dash. I see NHTSA recall #'s 17V302000, 16EO41000, 15V534000 and 15V460000 all apply to airbags with my trucks year)

I own a Ram pickup that has experienced a failure of the ABS brake module. The replacement ABS module is not available from the manufacturer, and I have now been waiting approximately three years for the necessary replacement part. I have contacted Ram dealerships regarding this problem and have repeatedly been told that the ABS module is on backorder and/or unavailable. Despite waiting for approximately three years, there is still no reasonable timeframe for obtaining the part and repairing my vehicle. This is not an ordinary convenience item. The ABS module is a critical safety component of the vehicle’s braking system. When the module fails, important safety systems can be disabled, including anti-lock braking and traction/stability control. Depending on the failure, other vehicle functions can also be affected. I am extremely concerned that Stellantis/Ram has allowed owners to remain without a manufacturer-supported repair for years because the replacement part is unavailable. An owner should not be forced to wait three years for a safety-critical braking component. I have also found numerous complaints from other Ram owners reporting similar ABS-module failures and extended or indefinite parts shortages. This indicates that the problem may be widespread rather than an isolated parts-supply issue. I am asking NHTSA to investigate: * The failure rate of this ABS module. * Whether the ABS module has a known defect or premature failure condition. * Why replacement modules have been unavailable for such an extended period. * Whether Stellantis/Ram has an adequate plan to repair affected vehicles. * Whether a safety recall, special service campaign, extended warranty, or other remedy is warranted. * Whether affected owners should be provided replacement modules at no cost. I believe it is unreasonable and unsafe for a manufacturer to leave owners without access to a replacement for a critical braking-system component for approximately three years.

I was driving normal and almost lost control when electric power sterring rack and pinion went out. And after doing some research looks like this is a huge issue with all these trucks. Amd dodge refuses to recall the vehicle. Someone can die from this

The subframe was completely rusted through. The subframe fell apart into pieces, and the fuel tank detached from the vehicle. The contact became aware of Technical Service Bulletin: 14/002/18rvea, referencing an extended warranty coverage; however, no recall had been issued. The warranty coverage only covered up to 12 years. The subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

This is getting ridiculous. Every time my vehicle is washed at the dealership with the high power jets, water gets into the vehicle from the third brake light and blows the bulb. As a disabled vet, it is getting impossible to climb into the bed and replace. This time, I took it to the dealership, which they replaced. They solution? The third brake light unit needs to be sealed, including on all the other Rams including the news one. If Stellantis is aware of this, why is this not a recall? Their next recommendation? Stop getting the truck washed. Is dirty Rams everywhere the advertisement Stellatis wants? The new slogan should be, "buy a Ram, just don't wash it...ever". The third brake light bulb will not blow when the truck is detailed or it a normal to light rain. Between the heavy rains and the dealership's high powered water jets, there is a permanent water stain on my headliner. The dealership warned me that if too much water gets inside, it will damage the RTF (?), which will render the truck useless. This has been an ongoing problem since I have owned the truck, which was purchased in 2015 or 2016. I want to know directly from Stellantis that if I replace the third brake light (again), but with an aftermarket LED unit, will the light continue to leak. If you conduct an online search, you will see how many other Ram owners have the same problem, yet Stellantis does nothing. If Ram's high powered water jets blow the bulbs, why does Ram still use the high powered jets? I am asking that Stellantis replace all the Ram third brake lights with aftermarket LED units and seal those units. Additionally, I need my headliner replaced. Attached is today's receipt of the bulb being replaced along with my stained headliner. A vehicle cannot pass a safety inspection with the third brake light out. You can even see on the dealership's comments, "Do Not Wash Indefinitely".

The wiring for the headlights is too thin from the factory and often burns out the socket that holds the bulbs.

The Foam protector that goes on the head rest cracked and is crumbling. I contacted them about the issue but they said that warranty was over and they tried to sell me the same car seat for a discounted price. My sister had bought the same exact car seat and she had the same issue with the foam head rest. I believe the quality of the foam part that goes in the head rest is faulty, it shouldn't have cracked and crumbled. My child's safety was at risk, if i had not taken it apart to wash it I would have not noticed it. I believe these specific car seats are not safe for use.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.

The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 18V332000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) 19V347000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES), and 17V302000 (AIR BAGS); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact stated that after driving 5 MPH, the vehicle was parked. The contact then attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact attempted to replace the battery and restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an ABS locking system failure. The vehicle remained at the dealer for a year awaiting the repair because parts were still not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL REPAIR, THE TAILGATE LATCH INDEPENDENTLY OPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT HE HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000.

Wiper works intermittently, sometimes it functions, sometimes it doesn't turn off. This causes a dangerous condition in rain storms. After some research it appears to be a condition across the entire Ram platform and needs to be addressed because it is a serious safety issue. Wiper motor and switch have been replaced with new parts but the issue continues.

Heater blender door actuator not allowing defrost to warm the windshield and defrost making visibility impossible. This seems to be an ongoing problem with ram trucks and should be included in a recall fix

Tire size is 275/60R20 115T AT+. Regarding the set of tires purchased from Sam’s Club via Pirelli, all 4 tires are dry rotted along the bead of each individual tire. The tires do not maintain pressure and the pressure drops significantly lower than the recommended PSI regarding environmental changes and ambient temperature in different regions. The manufacturer workmanship of the tire causes deflation in the tires which leads to different tread wear on the tires. I’ve contacted the manufacturer regarding the issue and they have not provided guidance to the merchant as a vendor to replace tires at no cost to the consumer submitting this report. I’m reporting this issue because Pirelli is not upholding their warranty in it’s entirety.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT AIR WAS LEAKING FROM THE TIRES. THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK WAS UNDETERMINED. NO FAILURE WAS FOUND WITH THE TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

2014 DODGE RAM 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKE TRANSMISSION SAFETY RECALL AND REPROGRAM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE SAFETY RECALL. *LD *TR

WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AFTER PUTTING IT INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT INTO REVERSE. THE DOOR KNOCKED ME DOWN AS I WAS CAUGHT IN THE SHOULDER SEAT BELT AND DRAGGED ME APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET. AFTER BEING RELEASED, THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO CONTINUE IN REVERSE AND RAN INTO A STOREFRONT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH MINOR INJURIES AS NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS IN THE PAST WITH THE ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFT, SPECIFICALLY WHEN MOVING IT FROM DRIVE TO PARK. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO GET STUCK IN REVERSE EVEN THOUGH THE INDICATOR LIGHT IS SHOWING PARK.
