2015 RAM 1500 Brakes Problems

Subject: Safety Defect – 2015 Ram 1500 – ABS Module Failure, Part Discontinued, No Recall Vehicle: 2015 Ram 1500, 5.7L VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 65000 Date of failure: May 2022 I am writing to report a safety-related defect on my 2015 Ram 1500 and to formally request corrective action. Description of the problem: The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module (Mopar part number 68228991AD) on my vehicle has failed. As a result, the ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems are completely inoperative, as indicated by persistent warning lights on the instrument cluster. This significantly compromises the vehicle's braking and stability performance, particularly in wet or emergency conditions, and renders the vehicle non-compliant with federal safety standards (FMVSS 135 – Anti-lock Braking Systems). Part unavailability: The required replacement module (68228991AD) or 68228991AE , is discontinued or in backorder for years and is currently in an "engineering hold" status at the factory. Dealerships are unable to order or procure the part. There is no estimated time of availability, no interim repair procedure, and no software workaround. The vehicle is non-operable and poses a heightened risk of loss of control during emergency braking. I have incurred [rental car / towing / transportation] costs of approximately $5000.00. Request: I request that this complaint be logged as a safety concern under NHTSA's jurisdiction. I request that Stellantis provide a replacement ABS module at no cost to the owner, or issue a formal service action / safety recall for this defect. I request reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses incurred while the vehicle is in an unsafe condition. I request a written response with a resolution timeline within 30 days. ABS control module “A” has failed internally. Vehicle went into limp mode and is inoperable due to this issue. I’ve eliminated other possibilities as to the cause and have narrowed it down to the ABS control module. ABS light, traction control, brake, electronic throttle control, and service shifter lights are all activated and activated at the time that the issue began.

Dealership held vehicle for approximately 2.5 months for major service totaling nearly $6,900 (primarily covered by extended warranty with ~$1,000 paid out-of-pocket). Upon return, the vehicle failed to function properly and was released in a dangerously compromised, life-threatening condition—specifically with a brake line left completely disconnected from the caliper, loose/wiggling, and actively leaking brake fluid. Vehicle had to be towed to an independent facility (John Kent Auto + Truck Repair), where I paid $215 to diagnose and rectify safety issues caused/missed by Tate Dodge. This hazardous mechanical failure occurred while driving the vehicle with my family on board. Shockingly, a SUET CAKE was apparently deliberately left sitting inside the engine bay near the battery, a second hazard to myself and the public - rodents could eat the engine wires. Condition, extreme safety hazards, and gross service negligence officially documented via Anne Arundel County Police Department Incident Report #2026199618. Dealership management has ignored all communication and requests for remediation."

I started my Truck to go to a funeral approximately 100 miles from my house and the brake light , abs light and traction control light all came on. thank goodness it did not happen while in motion. after doing significant research I am appalled that this common safety issue has not been addressed by the dealer. I am reporting a severe and widespread manufacturing defect regarding the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module in my 2015 Ram 1500. Upon starting the vehicle, the dashboard is clear. However, immediately upon driving forward or backward, the internal electronics of the ABS module fail (Fault Code C2200-49: ABS Module Internal Electronic Failure). This instantaneous failure immediately disables the Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) without warning while the vehicle is in motion. The sudden, unprompted deactivation of the ABS and Electronic Stability Control while driving creates an immediate safety hazard, especially during inclement weather, emergency braking scenarios, or high-speed maneuvers. The loss of these critical safety driver-aids significantly increases the risk of a vehicle skid, loss of steering control, and subsequent crash. This exact C2200-49 defect is heavily documented across thousands of identical 4th-generation Ram trucks, indicating a systemic design flaw (faulty internal circuit boards/solder joints exposed to engine heat) that Stellantis has refused to recall, despite issuing similar ABS recalls for newer model years. Thank goodness I was moving very slow. After all the lights came on I tested the truck with my abs tool and received a code C2200 49/st. upon further research I found it is a very common and expensive fix. I am unable to reach the local dodge ram dealer locally or the statewide service number. 7/36/26 must be a computer outage. I will continue to attempt to get an appointment at the dealer for confirmation.

The ABS, Traction Control, & Trailer Braking system no longer function. The vehicle is still drivable, technically unsafely. Warning lights for these system on all the time. I took vehicle to my local repair shop and was told the ABS Controller Module has failed (code C2200-49 indicating an internal electronic failure within the controller). I was quoted a replacement cost of $1579 + tax. I was also told the part, 68228991AD is on indefinite backorder. I have tried to locate the part on my own and there is in fact a nationwide backorder. As of this date replacement and remanufactured modules are not available. This is not just an issue with 2015 Ram trucks but extends to other Ram model years using the same part number. This is a huge safety issue that should be addressed through a recall. It is a travesty that Ram would not maintain adequate supplies of essential safety-related repair parts for a vehicle that is only 10 years old. At this point I have no recourse except to drive the truck in this condition. I am unable to sell the vehicle due to this situation.

Subject: Request for Investigation of ABS Module Failure and Part Unavailability To Whom It May Concern, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate a potential safety issue involving the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module, Part Number 68228991AD. The ABS module in my vehicle has failed, causing the ABS and cruise control systems to stop functioning. In addition, the ABS, check engine, and brake warning lights remain illuminated at all times. As a result, the vehicle no longer has anti-lock braking capability, which increases the risk of skidding and loss of control during emergency braking or adverse road conditions. My primary concern is that this safety-critical part appears to be discontinued or otherwise unavailable. I have spent more than three years attempting to locate a replacement through dealerships, parts suppliers, salvage yards, and online sources without success. Because the required part cannot be obtained, owners are left driving vehicles with a disabled ABS system for extended periods. This creates an ongoing safety risk for drivers, passengers, and others on the road. A critical safety system should be repairable when it fails. This issue has also created a significant financial burden. The constant warning lights and inoperable safety features substantially reduce the value of the vehicle and make it difficult to sell or trade. Few buyers would be willing to purchase a vehicle with persistent ABS, brake, and check engine warnings that cannot be repaired due to the lack of available parts. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the frequency of failures involving ABS Module Part Number 68228991AD, the availability of replacement parts, and whether manufacturer action, including a recall or extended support program, is warranted. Have taken to dealer O'Steen in Nashville, Ga. and was told the ABS module is bad and they are unable to get one. In December 2023 my truck was diagnosed with a faulty Anti-lock brake module. The Ram dealer that diagnosed my truck was unable to source a new anti-lock brake module, but told me, "We're not allowed to tell you this, but it will always have brakes". My anti-lock brakes and traction control have been disabled for 2.5 years. The part I need is supposedly under "Engineer Review" and is still not available. In March 2026 I experienced a number of electrical issues and took my truck to a different Ram dealer. Their diagnosis indicated my ABS module has degraded further and has shorted the CAN bus. This disables the transmission shifter, electronic throttle control, electrical power steering, speedometer, and 4wd system. These were all disabled while traveling at 65 MPH on the interstate. Currently, my truck is immobile and is at a dealer awaiting an Anti-lock brake module. The part has been backordered. I'm happy to pay the repair costs the get my truck back. I'm writing because of the huge safety concern of being forced to drive with a faulty Anti-lock braking system due to a lack of available parts (2.5 years! and counting). Especially when it can disable the transmission shifter, throttle control, and electrical power steering while driving.

The ABS brake module failed approximately 11 months ago. John Jones Chrysler confirmed this as the problem, and ordered a new part. Dash brake light, traction control light, and ABS light are lit on dash panel. Also cruise control quit working, because of this module. The dealer refunded my money saying parts to repair are unavailable. I’m assuming a failed ABS module is a definite safety problem. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles.

Vehicles brakes became spongy and almost no brakes at random. They work enroute to destination, almost completely failed at the destination, and started working again after restarting the vehicle. Dealership confirmed it is the ABS module, and cannot aquire the part at this time. They warned me this could happen on and off anytime.

Additionally, the “Service Electronic Throttle Control” message was displayed, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The ABS module failed in June of 2025. Ram originally told me the part was on back order 6-8 months. In December they said there were 100 ABS modules on order for our area. In January 2026 they informed the mechanic that is doing the work that there is still parts on back order and it could be another 1-2 months. Today 2/25/26 the mechanic was told there are 265 modules on back order and it can be another 2-3 months. The truck now has a throttle body control issue that is stemming from the ABS issue. The truck is not operable at the moment because of this back order. I have been waiting for 7 months for this part and there are no alternatives on the market. If Ram does not get a part available for me I will either have to find a used one that hopefully isn't going to fail or be out of a $50,000 truck. This is a problem that many people have had according to all of the RAM forums. RAM needs to find a solution because the consumer already paid for the vehicle so parts should be available.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500, my experience is not unique and this issue is well known online. The ABS module (Part No: 68228991AD) is no longer working and my truck has been having an issue with this for about 3 years. The Parts departments in dealerships will typically say that the manufacturer is "looking" for a new contract parts supplier and say that a certain date is upcoming, but it always gets pushed further into the future. I have been without ABS for a long time for this reason. Since I have moved around, I have been unable to stick with a certain parts department for an extended period of time, but I have had this part on order with the current dealership near me for over 5 months, with no status update other than its on order. This seems like a large safety issue to me and I would like the regulator to do something about this.

ABS module failed and showed the warning lights. It happened ? years ago and I took it to dealership but still can not get the part to have repaired. Good Moring. I have a 2015 and seems to be an on going problem with these years not. The ABS Module fails, turning off the ABS, trailer brakes, cruise control and lights on the dash. The other problem is you can not find any new modulars. the ABS block corrodes causing this part to fail. If you find a used one you can not program it to the vehicle. With this being a safety hazard and Dodge not having the part available I believe this should be a recall. The truck has a blue book of about 20k but with this part failing not only can I not do emissions due to the lights on the dash but it deems the vehicle worthless.
