2015 RAM 1500 Problems

I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L, VIN [XXX]. My vehicle previously received an EGR/emissions-related repair in XXX. The vehicle records also show emissions-related campaigns/repairs, including VB1, V08, and VA7. I am concerned that Ram/Stellantis is not honoring applicable EGR coverage associated with the class action lawsuit XXX v. FCA US LLC, Civil Action No.XXX, in the [XXX]. This case concerns alleged defects involving EGR coolers in 2014–2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks. The court-approved settlement provides coverage relating to the EGR cooler issue. I contacted Ram/Stellantis and the dealership and requested that they review my VIN and the applicable recall and extended warranty information. I was told that the applicable coverage was not showing or was not being honored. I was also given manufacturer case number XXX. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether my VIN is covered by the applicable EGR recall, warranty extension, or court-approved settlement and whether my previous January 2023 EGR repair affects eligibility for later applicable coverage. My vehicle currently has approximately 168,000 miles. I can provide repair orders, recall documentation, dealership communications, and other supporting records. I respectfully request that NHTSA document this complaint and investigate whether Stellantis/Ram is properly complying with applicable recall and extended-coverage requirements. The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the dealer performed an unknown software update associated with an unknown class-action lawsuit settlement without the owner's consent. Following the software update, the vehicle experienced cooling system failures, including oil intrusion in the coolant reservoir and brown and burnt coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and was eventually diagnosed with a turbocharger oil leak. The turbocharger was replaced under warranty; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times, and the diesel particulate filter (DPF) was replaced. Additionally, while driving 68 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the engine oil and oil filter were replaced; however, the failure worsened, and the engine made an abnormal knocking sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and was diagnosed with a blown head gasket, and the engine was replaced; however, the failure persisted, resulting in additional failures, including emissions failures. The vehicle was towed to an independent diesel mechanic, where no diagnostic trouble codes were found. The contact stated that the new engine failed at 100,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, an unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost power steering functionality and steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The contact stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the failure was self-corrected and the vehicle operated normally. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact was notified of NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (STEERING). The failure mileage was 140,000.

The consumer owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while turning left, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and the steering wheel was firm in the middle of turning the steering wheel. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired for the steering failure; however, the failure was not fixed. The instrument panel displayed the power steering failure message, and the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer confirmed the failure; however, the vehicle was not repaired.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel), the vehicle stalled while driving. After restarting the engine, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended and would not exceed 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and the fuel tank had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 158,000.

There is a known issue about exhaust manifolds for my year model truck. A ram technician said in 2019 mopar created a new exhaust manifold for my truck that would be less likely to create soot buildup and warping in the exhaust manifold. In 2021 my EGR was replaced because of a recall but now my exhaust manifold has failed and needs to be replaced out of pocket even though it’s been a known issue and there was a remedy already made to alleviate the issue. Now because of soot buildup my throttle is limited until I have it fixed. But driving to a dealership is too far to be diagnosed as there has been cases of fires occurring when this issue occurs.

There is a recall for Ram 1500 manufactured between January 2015-September 2015 regarding failed power steering. My truck was manufactured February 2015 and was not on the list of specific Ram 1500s to have this recall done. I was with my kids getting an oil change on the truck. When I was leaving the maintenance bay my power steering suddenly failed and left us stranded to get towed. Chrysler stated that there was certain conditions that led for certain models to have recalls for this part, but not my truck. They could not give me a clear reason why mine was not included on the list.

Description of the problem: The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module (Mopar part number 68228991AD) on my vehicle has failed. As a result, the ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems are completely inoperative, as indicated by persistent warning lights on the instrument cluster. This significantly compromises the vehicle's braking and stability performance, particularly in wet or emergency conditions, and renders the vehicle non-compliant with federal safety standards (FMVSS 135 – Anti-lock Braking Systems). Part unavailability: The required replacement module (68228991AD) or 68228991AE , is discontinued or in backorder for years and is currently in an "engineering hold" status at the factory. Dealerships are unable to order or procure the part. There is no estimated time of availability, no interim repair procedure, and no software workaround. The vehicle is non-operable and poses a heightened risk of loss of control during emergency braking. I have incurred [rental car / towing / transportation] costs of approximately $5000.00. Request: I request that this complaint be logged as a safety concern under NHTSA's jurisdiction. I request that Stellantis provide a replacement ABS module at no cost to the owner, or issue a formal service action / safety recall for this defect. I request reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses incurred while the vehicle is in an unsafe condition. I request a written response with a resolution timeline within 30 days. ABS module failure. Warning lights on dash- ABS lamp (code C2200), traction control lamp, service trailer brake system message, and red brake fault lamp illuminated. Does not go away after vehicle running. Reduced braking feel present. Will not pass state inspection for legal road use due to red brake lamp on status, no abs module replacements from dealer- national backorder with unknown shipping date currently.

ABS control module “A” has failed internally. Vehicle went into limp mode and is inoperable due to this issue. I’ve eliminated other possibilities as to the cause and have narrowed it down to the ABS control module. ABS light, traction control, brake, electronic throttle control, and service shifter lights are all activated and activated at the time that the issue began.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the cruise control feature was inoperable. The contact stated that the cruise control system failure had caused the ABS and ESC systems to fail. The local dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the replacement parts were back-ordered. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.

ABS module malfunction from known corrosion that all these vehicles have. Then they don’t make the part anymore.

The side curtain airbag inflator in our 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel spontaneously exploded without any impact, warning, or deployment command. The inflator violently ruptured inside the headliner, ejecting high‑velocity metal fragments and debris throughout the cabin. The blast destroyed the side curtain airbag system and caused severe interior damage. The explosion was forceful enough that we initially believed the vehicle had been vandalized. After removing the headliner, our upholstery technician identified the source as the airbag curtain inflator, which had ruptured internally. He immediately stopped work due to the extreme safety hazard, liability concerns, and the clear presence of a catastrophic component failure. This failure created a life‑threatening shrapnel hazard inside the passenger compartment. Had this occurred while driving—especially at highway speeds—the sudden detonation, debris, and loss of side‑impact protection could have caused loss of vehicle control, severe injury, or fatal collision. The vehicle now has zero functional side airbag protection and cannot be safely operated. There were no warning lights, no airbag indicators, and no prior symptoms before the inflator ruptured. We contacted both the manufacturer (Stellantis/FCA) and our local Ram dealership. Both refused to inspect or repair the vehicle, stating that our VIN is not currently listed under an active recall. However, this model year does have an existing side curtain airbag inflator recall, and the failure mode we experienced is identical to the known defect involving explosive inflator rupture and shrapnel ejection. The manufacturer is currently refusing communication and has declined to evaluate the vehicle despite the severity of the safety defect. This incident demonstrates a critical and dangerous failure of the airbag inflator system that may affect additional Ram 1500 Rebel vehicles of the same model year. We request NHTSA investigation, and expansion of the recall.

Component or system that failed or malfunctioned: The vehicle’s airbag restraint system failed to deploy during a severe single-vehicle crash. This includes the front airbags and any associated crash sensors. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. How safety was put at risk: The failure of the airbag system significantly increased the risk of serious injury. Due to the airbags not deploying during a high-impact collision with a fixed object (tree), the driver sustained a serious head injury. Proper airbag deployment could have reduced or prevented the severity of the injury. Confirmation or reproduction of the problem: At this time, the issue has not yet been reproduced or formally confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Investigation is pending. Vehicle or component inspection: The accident has been documented by law enforcement and insurance representatives. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, but is available for inspection. Insurance evaluation is in progress. Warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms: There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms indicating an airbag or restraint system malfunction prior to the accident. No airbag warning indicators were illuminated before the crash. If applicable: UNKNOWN whether any fault codes were present prior to the accident. Description of incident: The crash occurred at night in heavy fog conditions. While traveling around a curve, the driver encountered an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane and took evasive action to avoid a collision. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused significant damage to the entire vehicle. Despite the severity of the collision, no airbags deployed. The driver sustained a serious head injury that may have been mitigated had the airbag system functioned as designed.

Dealership held vehicle for approximately 2.5 months for major service totaling nearly $6,900 (primarily covered by extended warranty with ~$1,000 paid out-of-pocket). Upon return, the vehicle failed to function properly and was released in a dangerously compromised, life-threatening condition—specifically with a brake line left completely disconnected from the caliper, loose/wiggling, and actively leaking brake fluid. Vehicle had to be towed to an independent facility (John Kent Auto + Truck Repair), where I paid $215 to diagnose and rectify safety issues caused/missed by Tate Dodge. This hazardous mechanical failure occurred while driving the vehicle with my family on board. Shockingly, a SUET CAKE was apparently deliberately left sitting inside the engine bay near the battery, a second hazard to myself and the public - rodents could eat the engine wires. Condition, extreme safety hazards, and gross service negligence officially documented via Anne Arundel County Police Department Incident Report #2026199618. Dealership management has ignored all communication and requests for remediation."

The ABS, Traction Control, & Trailer Braking system no longer function. The vehicle is still drivable, technically unsafely. Warning lights for these system on all the time. I took vehicle to my local repair shop and was told the ABS Controller Module has failed (code C2200-49 indicating an internal electronic failure within the controller). I was quoted a replacement cost of $1579 + tax. I was also told the part, 68228991AD is on indefinite backorder. I have tried to locate the part on my own and there is in fact a nationwide backorder. As of this date replacement and remanufactured modules are not available. This is not just an issue with 2015 Ram trucks but extends to other Ram model years using the same part number. This is a huge safety issue that should be addressed through a recall. It is a travesty that Ram would not maintain adequate supplies of essential safety-related repair parts for a vehicle that is only 10 years old. At this point I have no recourse except to drive the truck in this condition. I am unable to sell the vehicle due to this situation.

Engine hood latch failed. Hood would not close.

WHILE MOVING TO SOUTH CAROLINA i NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS HANGING, A WIRE OR SOME TYP IF LINE, AS I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK, I FOUND THAT IT WAS THE FUEL TANK STRAP. THE STRAP HAD PULLED OUT FROM THE FRAME THAT WAS CORRODED. I HAVE ALWAYS WASHED THE UNDER CARRIAGE COMING FROM MASSACHUSSETTS AND THE ROAD SALT. AT THE PRESENT TIME I AM USING A TIE DOWN STRAP TO SECURE IN PLACE. SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THERE IS SOME TYPE OF RECALL BUT NEVER RECIEVED ANYTHING IN WRITTING.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the driver's side and passenger’s side front headlight bulbs burned out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the bulbs were replaced, but the failure persisted. The mechanic informed the contact that the wiring harness and the socket had melted. The contact was referred to the dealer. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Shortly after the purchase we received a TSB for dim low beams. We took it to our dealer and they increased the voltage to the low beams using a scanner. They seemed ok but still seemed dim compared to our other vehicles. Since the purchase of this truck we have replaced the low beam headlamps 7 times. Doing research on this problem it is wide spread with no remedy or fix from RAM. Just google dim headlights 2015 RAM it will fill the screen. This is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed.

The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake warning lights remained illuminated, and the brake pedal was not firm while depressed. The vehicle was taken to two local mechanics who diagnosed the ABS Module as faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was notified and informed that the ABS module was on backorder and not available for purchase. The manufacturer has not yet contacted us. The failure mileage was 86,000,

The ABS, traction control and emergency brake light all turned came up on the dashboard. I believe a past recall May 16, 2018 was of a wiring issue effecting the cruise control. Since all three lights have came on, the cruise control feature is not available for use. This is a concern within the Ram community and needs to be addressed.

I can be driving down the road and the driver seat belt will unhook by its self . An I was pulling a trailer and the tailgate must of came open and I didn’t notice and the trailer jack dented my tailgate.

The seat belt locks and then when I unlatch it and try to put it back on, I can't because it stays locked and won't pull AT ALL to be able to put it back on.

The vehicle was driven off the road onto the shoulder and parked. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the center locking latch pin and hydraulic hood rod had failed. During the failure, the hood was damaged. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the trunk latch unlatched independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact parked at a nearby parking lot and closed the trunk door. The contact stated that she had experienced the failure twice. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The back up camera may or may not work. yes 2 It would be easy to back over a small child. 3 The problem was reported to a dealer and was told it could be a bad wire or a faulty radio system that would be expensive to repair.4 no 5 It began to mostly not work a couple years back

PASSANGE SIDE WIND SHIELD WIPER MORTOR IS MOVING BE ITS GOTTEN SCRAPPED OFF SO IT'S LOOSE AND IT CANE GO BACK IN BECAUSE IT GOTTEN SCRAPPED OFF.

The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that after several attempts, he was able to restart the vehicle. The check engine warning light and the throttle control warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the magnetic material attached to the tone wheel had delaminated and the engine lost the ability to synchronize the injector pulses and cam timing. The contact was informed that the powertrain control module (PCM) software needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact notified the dealer and was informed that the recall repair was previously completed on the vehicle and advised the contact to notify the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the recall was previously completed, and the contact was responsible for all future repairs. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

2015 RAM 1500. CONSUMER STATED THAT THEIR TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ADVISED THE ABS BRAKE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE YEAR 2023.THE CONSUMER'S REQUEST FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE WAS DENIED EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY.
