A BUS DRIVER CALLS IN A PROBLEM TO THE DISPATCHER THAT THE BUS CUT OFF WHILE DURING THE ROUTE. IN AUGUST OF 2001 DPS PURCHASED ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE (125) THOMAS BUILT SAF-T-LINERS WITH CATERPILLAR 3126 B ENGINES. IN 2006 PRIOR TO THE ENGINE WARRANTY EXPIRING WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE IDLE GEAR FAILURES AND APPROXIMATELY TWENTY TWO (22) WERE REPLACED AND COVER UNDER WARRANTY BY CATERPILLAR. HOWEVER, SINCE THAT TIME WE HAVE LOST AN ADDITIONAL TWENTY SEVEN (27) OUT OF SERVICE THAT IS NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IS STILL GOING UP, AND THIS IS A DAILY OCCURRENCE. *TR

Camshaft timing, valve lash, injector height, and Jake Brake lash are all very important specifications that must be followed closely in order to optimize the performance and service life of any Detroit Diesel engine.
POWER TRAIN
Thomas Built Buses Service Bulletin for Axle Flange Gasket Replaced with O-Ring. Daimler Trucks North America has released a new axle shaft to hub rubber O-ring (part number 11-30728-000) as a replacement for the paper gasket (part number 11-14418-000). The new O-ring will provide better sealing and is reusable. It is quicker and easier to use compared to the paper gasket, because using a paper gasket requires cleaning the hub when the axle shaft is removed.

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
