The glue used by Volvo for this era of cars is known to fail causing the side mirrors to fall off. I have had to replace the both side mirrors due to this issue.

I have been requesting the recall service of my vehicle since November 2020. I was first told by the dealership they were delayed in getting the replacement airbag but should in January. Called in January and they still didn’t have them and after asking I was put on a list and told they would contact me. I checked back in August 2021 and was told I was still on the list. I have not been contacted by the dealership since that time and my recall is still not repaired. The nearest dealership is in the next state 2.5 hours away. I just want this completed as I’ve been potentially driving a dangerous (to me) vehicle for over 2 years now.

The recall notice was issued on December 14, 2021. No area Volvo dealer has the parts to repair or replace the air bag. I have been told I am on a "waiting list" A reasonable amount of time has elapsed to repair my vehicle. Volvo Car, USA. Volvo Car, USA by email advised me to contact another local dealer in my area on March 12, 2022: "Thank you for your patience while your case was open. I apologize for any inconvenience. if your servicing dealer does not have the parts to complete the repairs for your vehicle. You have the option of making an appointment with the other dealers in your area. Our search has shown that Herzog-Meier Volvo Cars is a feasible option for you. Please find their information listed below." Herzog-Meier Volvo Cars advised me to call my own dealer, Jim Fisher Volvo since they did not have the parts to repair or replace my air bag. I contacted JIm Fisher Volvo again and they did not have the parts and I remain on their waiting list.

THE TWO BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE BALL JOINT TO THE KNUCKLE SOMEHOW WORKED LOOSE AND FELL OUT, CAUSING THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL TO FALL OFF THE CAR. FORTUNATELY THE SEPARATION HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED, BUT IF THE CAR HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT NORMAL ROAD OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE FAILURE WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. NONE OF THE PARTS HAD ANY PRIOR DAMAGE, ALL WERE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR, AND THE MECHANICS COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE BOLTS WORKED LOOSE. VOLVO USA HAD NO INTEREST IN INVESTIGATING OR UNDERSTANDING THIS FAILURE, WHICH IS REMARKABLE GIVEN ITS NATURE AND POTENTIAL FOR CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. NOR WERE THEY WILLING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OR RELATED DAMAGE. I RECOVERED AND HAVE POSSESSION OF THE BALL JOINT, KNUCKLE AND BOLTS, AS WELL AS PHOTOS DETAILING THE FAILURE AND DAMAGE (INCLUDING ROAD SKID MARKS FROM THE DRAGGING WHEEL), AND RECEIPTS FOR THE REPAIR WHICH TOTALED OVER $1,000 EXCLUDING BODY DAMAGE.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
