2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I am having the same issue as the GM Safety Recall N232426400 - where it says it is a common issue in 2020-2024 Chevy 1500's (which my truck is a 2022 Chevy). Where the tailgate will drop by itself. I looked into this recall and my truck is not included. However, it just rained heavy and now my truck's tailgate is dropping on it's own. This is a safety risk due to loading the truck bed and having it open on its own without me knowing resulting in items falling out of my truck onto the roadway. Another thing is my lane keeping assist is no longer working.

The vehicle experiences a recurring electronic and sensor failure where critical advanced safety systems completely shut down while driving. The dashboard displays active failures for the Front Collision Detection System, Automatic Headlights, and Lane Keeping Assistance. These sudden defects directly compromise the vehicle's crash avoidance features, nighttime visibility, and lane safety, creating a severe driving hazard. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized Chevrolet dealership for this exact safety issue more than 10 times. Most recently, all safety lights turned back on less than half a mile after exiting the dealership following an alleged repair. The authorized service center has been completely unable to properly diagnose or permanently fix these safety systems, leaving an unsafe vehicle on the road.

The rear park assist will randomly turn itself off. It happens while just driving down the road and also at times when backing up. This has been an ongoing issue since I took the truck in to get the chips installed for it to work.

Ever since I’ve own, the vehicle emergency breaking has never worked. I get all the red lights and noises and I almost ruined somebody but luckily I swerved, but the truck is never break on its own and the dealership tells me that’s the way it is you have to hit somebody first before it breaks and the other day I was driving and all kinds of service lights came on the dash the trucks are misfiring

While turning left, the transmission stuttered and got stuck in first gear. I did some basic research and learned that this is a known issue with 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. I attempted the suggested fix which worked briefly. I then took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer for repairs. After further research I learned that this is a known issue with my year and model of Silverado. GM further voluntarily offered a 15 year, 150,000 mile warranty for this issue. According to GM, my particular VIN is not included in this recall. I am concerned as to how many other trucks are not included. This issue also cost nearly $4,000 for the repair.

Unknown. The transmission is kicking really bad. There are recalls on other vehicles similar to ours that are having the same issue. It has been doing this for a while now. It shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear and when coming to a complete stop it also jerks. Also at times the check engine light comes on and it will not shift at all. I am afraid this is going to cause an accident.

I went to Chevy in Warwick Rhode Island a few months back after all my adaptive cruise control and lane departure stuff stopped working. They reset it and it was fine for a couple months and now it isn’t working again. I went there and they said that my camera is not getting enough power and they have seen so many of these problems happening with these trucks but still no recall. Was waiting to get one because there should be a recall on these if so many trucks are having issues with it

Component Involved: Visibility/Backup Device, Electrical System, Forward Collision Avoidance Description of Incident: The Android 12-based infotainment system in this vehicle is suffering from a progressive hardware/software failure that creates a severe, multi-layered safety hazard. CRITICAL DRIVER DISTRACTION: The system has become largely non-responsive, requiring me to repeatedly press on-screen buttons to perform basic functions. This forces me to divert my eyes and manual attention away from the road for periods far exceeding 2 seconds. This "visual-manual distraction" is a direct result of the system's inability to process commands, making safe operation impossible while attempting to use vehicle controls. VISIBILITY FAILURE (FMVSS 111): The failure impacts the digital rearview mirror and the safety camera feeds. These cameras frequently glitch, lag, or freeze, depriving me of necessary rear and surround visibility while moving. This is a violation of federal safety standards for rearview visibility. SYSTEMIC ELECTRICAL FAILURE: This "slowly dying" system is also interfering with the vehicle's communication bus, causing the power door locks to malfunction. This creates an entrapment or security risk. I have reported these issues to General Motors/OnStar. Despite their awareness of these "electrical gremlins" and the existence of limited service updates (like Program #N242435631), no permanent fix has been provided. This is a systemic safety defect that requires a mandatory recall to prevent accidents caused by driver distraction and visibility loss. The system needs updating to Android 14. It is Android 12 now. This is the fix. Gm want me to pay $250 for a hour for a macanic to update it. Gm was updating over the air, but it was causing the battery on the vehicle's to prematurely die under warranty. It was affecting their bottom line.

Since the truck was updated under the recal N242435631, the camera system guidelines no longer work, which is a feature that was sold as part of the the vehicle. This system no longer works and I fear there are other safety systems that may no longer work. GM is refusing to fix the software issues that were caused by this recall update.

Truck went into limp mode. Would not shift. Stayed in one gear and would not back up. The truck basically downshifted from 8th to 2nd gear, causing me to lock up the brakes and almost lose control. Several warning lights on the dash. It's been at a transmission shop for over 3 weeks. They are having issues being able to get parts from GM. They are having problems fixing it. The blind spot lights will turn on for no reason. The lights opposite of the vehicle comes on. I've almost wrecked multiple times.

The vehicle intermittently enters a reduced power/limp mode resulting in a sudden loss of acceleration while driving. This has occurred multiple times, including while towing, when the vehicle was unable to safely maintain or reach highway speeds. The loss of power creates a dangerous condition when merging or driving in traffic. Warning messages indicating reduced engine power have appeared, and diagnostic trouble codes have cleared without repair. Despite this, the problem continues to reoccur. The condition is intermittent and not consistently reproducible during dealer diagnostics. The vehicle is currently available for inspection.

My Chevy Silverado was repaired by 3 different certified Chevy dealers about 10 times for a variety of issues. The last time I brought my truck to Bridgewater Chevy I was told I need an engine replacement. The certified dealers failed to identify the root cause to all the issues. All the symptoms point to engine fail eventually occurring

This truck is locking up momentarily, sometimes at high rates of speed on the interstate. It is very violent and jars the neck of my and my passengers. It leaves tire skid marks on the highway at high rates of speeds. It happens when i slow down or when the truck tries to shift gears. Turns out, GM HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, (N242454440) but my VIN is not included for some reason. The Chevy dealer has confirmed this issue and is recommending a new transmission. This has been ongoing since July and I am on pins and needles every time I drive this vehicle. Can you please encourage GM to include my VIN in their recall: N242454440, holding me harmless for the repairs?

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds in inclement weather, the ESC warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while making minor steering adjustments or turning to the right or the left, the vehicle skidded. The contact was able to make an adjustment to the steering wheel to regain control of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was idling roughly and was vibrating noticeably while stopped at a traffic light or while slowing down for traffic. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. Recently, while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and unexpectedly downshifted to first gear. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the RPMs elevated to 4,500 RPM. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle, and the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was revving abnormally and failed to shift out of first gear. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

My forward collision light what on sp i took the vehicle in to have it fixed under warranty. Upon having that part replaced the dealership informed me my OnStar module (unsure of technical name) was bad and that the vehicle would be inoperable until it is replaced. The part is on backorder with no ETA. My safety is a major concern as this module controls several safety braking features and with me unaware of its malfunction a collision would have caused severe injury or death.

When I bought the truck it was working fine. Went through Chevy and got all the inspections done before buying the truck and it worked fine. About 2 months later my front collision automatic breaking, lane keep and assist, and automatic high berms stopped working. I’ve talked to many other Silverado owners and this is happening to them too. Even when trying to reset it. With the amount of times this has happened to all these Silverado’s a recall should absolutely happen because having to pay for this is crazy when it’s happening to so many vehicles

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound and lost motive power. The “Service ESC” warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the connecting rod had punctured the engine block, allowing fluid to leak out from the engine. The dealer requested that the contact provide maintenance records. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available.
