Owner-reported complaints naming the powertrain system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 162 reports on file name it.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Transmission failure with no electronic warning or codes. Hard shifting was identified while under warranty but because no codes were present no action was taken to correct the issue.
When driving, the vehicle’s computer detects an issue with the vehicle’s transmission and throws a “Reduced acceleration. Drive with care” which causes a strong jerk like if the wheel locked up momentarily. The check engine also turns on and the vehicle stays stuck in 5th gear at all times. Code P0747 is thrown as well.
VEHICLE: 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, VIN [XXX] DEFECT: Transmission suddenly, violently downshifts from a high gear to a much lower gear with no driver input, at highway speed. Causes RPM spike, violent jerking, Check Engine Light, loss of vehicle control. Occurred 5 times. Not fixed despite 4 dealer repairs, 61 days out of service. 5/12/26 - 1st failure, 70+ mph on I-5, stuck in low gear. 5/14-6/8/26 - Repair 1, Bud Clary Chevrolet: valve body solenoid replaced. 6/13/26 - 2nd failure days later, Hwy 12 (no cell service), spouse + [XXX] infant in vehicle, forced to keep driving to reach safety. 6/13-6/17/26 - Repair 2, Harvest Chevrolet: same fault codes; valve body connector found loose. 6/17/26 - 3rd failure, same day picked up, same [XXX] location. 6/19-6/26/26 - Repair 3, [XXX] Chevrolet Diagnosed by TSB#25-NA-301: wiring found chafed/pinched. Dealer's own paperwork says cause of fault codes could not be determined. I requested full internal transmission inspection; declined. 6/26/26 - 4th failure, same day picked up, ~100 mi later, [XXX] [XXX], family in vehicle. Dealer denied promised tow after 4-hr wait; transport arranged. 7/1-7/17/26 - Repair 4, [XXX]: GM's national Technical Assistance Center directed wiring circuit replacement (GMTAC Case #XXX). Again requested internal inspection; again declined. Service tech said GM engineering was dictating repairs and I'd "just need to drive it until it fails again." 7/20/26 - 5TH FAILURE: XXX near mile marker 24 (Kalama/Woodland, WA), ~75 mph, [XXX] in vehicle. Uncommanded downshift nearly forced my truck into an adjacent semi-truck. Same day picked up from Repair 4. SUMMARY: Code P0776 present at every repair; P0716/P0717 recur. 4 fixes attempted, none resolved it. Internal inspection requested twice, denied twice. Near-collisions XXX and XXX. Infant in vehicle for 2 incidents. 2nd owner; active GM powertrain warranty through XXX. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle experiences a sudden, violent drop into "limp mode" during active traffic acceleration. The internal Output Shaft Speed Sensor completely drops its signal, causing the vehicle to rapidly lose speed in active traffic lanes, creating an immediate and severe rear-end collision hazard.Diagnostic Evidence:Dealership (Crews Chevrolet) officially scanned the vehicle and documented history codes DTC P0722 (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal) and DTC P0700. The dealership technician verified that the external wiring harness is fully intact, isolating the failure strictly to the internal transmission sensor.Manufacturer Actions:General Motors Corporate (Case thread::oxEmaLlrKKms4NDj0d9wJ0w::) is actively refusing to authorize the dealership to drop the transmission pan to replace this failing component under the active Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty. They are citing the "intermittent" nature of the safety hazard as a reason to deny diagnostics, forcing me to either operate an unsafe vehicle or leave it parked.
The internal transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) and its associated internal circuit/lead frame assembly failed. The vehicle is fully intact, operational, and available for inspection upon request. When the Output Shaft Speed Sensor intermittently loses its signal (dropping to 0 RPM while the vehicle is stopped at red lights or in traffic), it forces the vehicle into an immediate electronic "limp mode." Upon pressing the gas pedal to accelerate, the transmission violently slams into gear with massive mechanical force. This sudden, unpredictable jerking and hesitation while accelerating into active traffic creates an immediate risk of being rear-ended, losing traction, or losing control of the heavy vehicle in an intersection. The problem was officially confirmed via a diagnostic computer scan by an authorized GM dealership (Crews Chevrolet), which pulled and documented history codes P0722 (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal) and P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction Warning). However, the dealership declined physical teardown or sensor replacement because the electronic failure is intermittent and could not be replicated during a brief technician test drive. Yes. The vehicle's external wiring harness was physically inspected by an authorized General Motors dealership technician, who confirmed the external wiring passed inspection. This officially isolates the intermittent electrical drop to an internal transmission component failure. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. Yes. The symptoms appeared suddenly without prior warning. The transmission began shifting erratically and violently, immediately followed by the illumination of the dashboard Check Engine Light (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). The onboard computer triggered diagnostic trouble codes P0722 and P0700.
An internal transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) failure causes the vehicle to enter "limp mode" and shift violently, creating a risk of rear-end collisions or loss of control, according to the report. A GM dealer confirmed diagnostic codes P0722 and P0700, isolating the issue to an internal component after an inspection of the external wiring harness.
Truck continues to shutter after having the torque converter replaced and the 2nd injector replaced. Been in the shop several times over the last few years, and still giving warnings on the dash saying, reduce acceleration drive safely. Feel like we just got a terrible vehicle. Almost paid off, and it’s just unreliable. Sadly we need this truck every single day, and the local dealerships have now pushed the problem out so far that we’re passed out 60k warranty period.
Truck stutters and idles terrible. Vehicle warning light keeps saying, reduce acceleration and drive safely. Two years ago an injector went bad, and it was fixed. 6 months ago, we had it in the shop, of course still under the 60k mile warranty. Said it was fixed, it wasn’t. Just had it back there, and they replaced the the torque converter. Shaking stopped for a month. Now it is even worse. Believe it is faulty injectors. Sadly, we’re not passed the 60k warranty period and feel unsafe driving our truck which we need every single day. Truck is nearly paid off and feel like we got jipped as this truck continues to have problems after problems
1)The truck experiences an intermittent but complete failure of the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor circuit and multiple chaffing points of the vehicle wiring harness. This issue is a documented manufacturing and electrical defect covered under General Motors Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #24-NA-012. Yes, the truck is available for inspection. 2)This issue has happened to me on five occasions where I was traveling over 50 MPH and the vehicle violently jerked with my wife and children in the truck with me. This defect poses an immediate, severe safety hazard due to unpredictable, sudden engine/transmission jerk while operating at highway speeds. My main priority is my family! This failure compromises my ability to safely maneuver, accelerate, or steer the heavy-duty vehicle out of active lanes of traffic, dramatically increasing the risk of a high-speed rear-end collision or crash. 3) The problem has been reproduced by Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Norfolk and R.K. Chevrolet Virginia Beach. There are service invoices confirming these reproducible jerks and subsequent engine codes thrown. 4) No, I brought this up to General Motors as a safety issue but they have brushed off my concerns. 5) The second time I had the violent jerk I had a message appear on my DTC that stated "174 mi Until 65 MPH Max Speed and Service Emission System See Owner's Manual" that was on 2/21/2026. Extra Note: The vehicle sat disabled at a dealership service center for 21 cumulative days during the initial attempt to repair this specific defect under TSB #24-NA-012. Merely 58 days after the repair, the identical crankshaft position sensor circuit/wiring failure reoccurred while driving, resulting in secondary engine failure and requiring a visit to an independent service facility for diagnostic verification and wiring replacement. Internal vehicle history confirms that prior to my truck ownership the crankshaft position sensor was replaced in December 2025 weeks before I purchased the truck.
On June 7th, 2026, I pulled into my driveway, and put the truck in park (did not set the parking brake, but left it running). I walked, approximately 25 feet up my driveway, towards my garage, to retrieve my garbage can, to bring it to the road. About the time i got to my garbage can, my truck proceded to roll towards me, as i walked back towards the road. I then noticed it rolling, let go of my garbage can, ran to the truck, jumped in it, hit the brakes, and i had to shift the truck back in gear, then back in park. By that time, it had already struck the support pole to my temporary car port, destroyed it, and caused a small amount of damage to the front fender of my truck (small dent, and some scratches in the front plastic). I know i did not leave it in drive, as i had to shift it into gear, then back into park, as well as the fact, that it stayed still, as i walked normally, 25 feet up the driveway. I tested the truck, after the fact. It starts rolling immediately after taking your foot off the brake, from the same spot. On a side note, my truck had just received an update download, 2 days prior to the incident. There were no warning lights. Luckily, my safety, was the only one at risk. I have not had it inspected, and it has not happened again, since. I did contact General Motors, immediately, but got no response to my email. I do have a short security video, starting when i retrieved my garbage can, to the moment the truck struck the pole.
Code P0747 the car jerked forward twice and did not accelerate. The engine light came on. GM said my truck was not covered under the special coverage because of my VIN although it’s got the same problem for the same truck listed
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 10 MPH, the vehicle hesitated and lurched forward while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission valve failure. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V083000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
While driving home @ approximately 45 mph, the transmission seemed go out of gear followed by a loud bang and rapidly slowed to 20mph. The truck would no longer shift gears and now has no reverse gear
Took my 22 silverado with the L87 engine in for the recall. The dealer stated that my vehicle had a tick in the motor but it passed the pico test. They switched it to the 0W40 oil and stated that my engine will probably blow here soon, but until that happens there hands are tied. Today i took my truck in for another inspection because my motor had a very loud Tick noise almost sounding like metal on metal, they stated they did not hear anything and without more proof nothing can be done. My safety is very much put at risk when i report something to them thats happening with the vehicle, and if my motor blows while im driving 80 MPH i could crash into others or even die myself. My transmission is also having problems of what i would call Bucking when you put it into drive, i also filled up with gas last week shut my truck off pumped gas, got back into my truck and started it, went to put it into drive had no power shut it off and did it again, i had power but my rear wheels were locked up and wouldnt budge. shut it off turned my truck on and engaged the 4 wheel drive, and then disengaged it, still not able to drive. shut it off and put it back into drive and the rear wheels were able to drive normally. Dealership says theres a recall on the transmission to add a spacer plate so it was ordered. This issue needs to be taken very seriously this is why they say theres only 3% motors affected is because they decline the motors that have actual problems but its still running so to them its fine.
Escalation of Recurring Powertrain Issue and Warranty Denial This statement outlines a severe, recurring safety issue with my vehicle’s 8-speed Escalation of Recurring Powertrain Issue and Warranty Denial transmission, which the dealership has now recommended replacing at a cost of $7,500. I am formally disputing this out-of-pocket expense due to the vehicle's repair history and its alignment with active manufacturer recalls. First Incident (Towed to Dealership): The vehicle initially experienced severe jerking and hesitation during acceleration, which left me stranded roadside. It was towed to the dealership, where technicians diagnosed the issue as a faulty fuel injector. The injector was replaced at no cost, and I was assured the problem was resolved. Second Incident (Current Diagnosis): The vehicle recently began exhibiting the exact same symptoms: severe jerking and acceleration hesitation. Upon returning the vehicle to the dealership, technicians diagnosed the issue as a complete transmission failure requiring a full replacement. Recall Alignment: The dealership has stated that this replacement is not covered under warranty. However, this vehicle is actively experiencing every symptom outlined in the manufacturer's current 8-speed transmission recall. While my specific VIN is currently omitted from the recall list, the mechanical failure is identical to the recall parameters. Given that the underlying safety issue was present and documented during the first visit, and that the symptoms mirror an active manufacturing defect, I request that this repair be covered under goodwill or the existing safety campaign.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55-75 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly and violently downshifted into a lower gear. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. On one occurrence, the contact lost control of the vehicle but was able to regain control and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number 24V797000 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 55-60 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted, bucked, and jerked. No warning light illuminated. There was no failure notification from the vehicle mobile app. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V083000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the transmission fluid, the transmission filter, and the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The local dealer was contacted, but no assistance was provided because the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for warranty coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
2022 Silverado 1500 LTZ w/6.2L 38082 total miles. First engine replacement due to seizure at approx. 17,782 miles around June/2025, The vehicle lost all propulsion and stopped running while sitting at a stop sign at a four way intersection during a really bad thunderstorm, Luckily the intersection was on a declining hill and i was able to coast it into nearby parking lot .I'm a senior citizen with a replaced hip and couldn't have gotten it out the roadway otherwise. Contacted Gm through the App. to arrange service and tow. The tow couldn't be completed by the assigned wrecker service because it was busy with other tows because of the severe storms. The following afternoon, it was towed to the local dealership for service. It took approx. a week before i was finally informed that the engine seized with explanation.. Repair took just over 3 months to complete under warranty/recall at dealership, didn't get vehicle back until the beginning of September 2025. Engine replacement Inspection passed by GMC on the recall inspection at local dealership. Oil changed from factory 0W-20 to 0W-40 around January or February 2026 if I'm not mistaken. Driving down the highway on 06/03/2026 and all the sudden loss of propulsion. Zero warning! Lucky I was able to coast onto an exit ramp without getting in an accident with hwy. traffic! Luckily i was able to find a church parking lot and asked a person that i knew to give me a ride home. Because it was after business hours, i waited till the local dealership opened the next morning and spoke with service personnel and they arranged a tow to take it to the dealership. As of the end of the business day 06/05/26 I have no word from dealership on the status of vehicle, but the vehicle experienced the same symptoms, a sudden total loss of power and no start, just a single click and no electrics. I feel that the inspection testing and oil change does not address and/or fix the root cause of these engine failures
New motor put in due to drive train seizing up sept 2025. “Oil pressure low” and died while stopping at a red light in May 2026. Would not crank back. New motor only had 40k miles. Supposedly GM will not cover tow or rental.
When I shift the transmission into park., turn off the ignition, there is an error message - shift into park. Even though I shifted into park, the power stays on, ie stereo, lights, HVAC etc. This is putting a strand on the battery, and computer systems. I now have a list of BCM codes - no communications. Dealer says it will take 2-3 days w/appointment All the vehicles (Volt & Bolt have National recall for the SAME problem) it is a Shifter micro switch The whole shifter assembly needs to be replaced. As I leave the truck, the warning beeper keeps blaring. I'm afraid someone could steal the truck.
Let's eat come randomly unhook after clicking in.I have an indicator that keeps popping up to check my steering column and my transmission feels like it's slipping when you are trying to accelerate
All kinds of warning signals come up like 4 wheel drive on, off, roll up and down driver window, no brake pads detected, no washer fluid, service esc, service 4 wheel drive, traction control on and off, radio blacks out, lights dim, feels like rear wheels lock up and release, transmission feels like it's going to shake out of the truck. Dealership sold it like this and was sent back to be fixed and they said it was fixed and I was just stuck with it. They said they fixed the recalls and in fact did not
The 2022 Chevy Silverado I own is having same problems with transmission as is the models indicated on the recall. This truck doesn’t show up on the recall and has transmission shuddering hard shifting and at times doesn’t respond as normal. This truck also underwent the 6.2 motor recall and had a new motor added. And passed the required inspection. My question is why is this 2022 Chevy Silverado with the 10 speed transmission not on the recall when it is shaking the same symptoms as others on the recall.
MY ENGINE IS MAKING NOISE, CHEVY ONLY CHANGED THE OIL, AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY $200 TO GET A OIL CHANGE cHEVY TOLD ME BECAUSE NOW IT NEEDS SPECIAL OIL IN A 6.2 MOTOR!!
Truck started shifting rough and lurching when sitting still or coming to a stop. Limp mode was engaging and limiting power to unsafe conditions at highway speeds. Check engine turned on, valve body failed
