2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Driver assistance Problems
Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

On Febuary 13th 2026 I was involved in a wreck where I re-ended another stopped vehicle. There was no warning light or automated braking executed. I braked hard but not soon enough. There was no malfunction warnings or lights displayed before (or after ) the accident showing it to be inoperative. It has been in to the dealer 3 times since. Yes it is available for inspection. Was told that it will not work if you have your foot on brake or accelerator by one technician. This truck use to brake for no reason even going 70 mph on highway. I am pretty sure GM has reprogramed to fix that issue leaving the sensitivitu so low it now does not work at all.

The all around vehicle camera system fails on average every 6 months. As the dealership is far away in our area, I have to take a 1/2 day to full day off work to take it over. I believe we are now on the third replacement camera module, in need of a fourth that was just replaced less than two months ago. GM makes it unreasonable to deal with. They require you drive over to the dealership just so they can see the same problem is occuring and only then will order parts, requiring a second appointment. The problem is the same and this is just adding more time to the failing safety issue which is of major concern because we can't just drop in easily because we are in a remote area. It sometimes takes over a month for me to be able to schedule a time to go over there --- so I go many weeks with a failing camera system.

On [XXX], I was going to Atlanta, the truck started hesitating harshly while I was passing another driver on a two lane road. The truck wouldn’t accelerate and the paddle seemed to be stuck, I had to pull off the road to avoid a head on collision. On the 30th of May, I took the truck to Allen Turner in Pensacola, Florida where I purchased it and reported the issue, the service department was closed and they sent me next door to a Chevrolet Dealership, which was also closed. On today [XXX], I took the truck out for a test drive, and I had the same incident happen, but this time I pulled into a gas station and shutdown the truck. Once I turned the truck back on, the check engine light came on. I didn’t think I would make it back home, because the truck didn’t accelerate correctly, and when I pressed the gas pedal it didn’t accelerate and was making different noises. The pedal seemed to be stuck, with no acceleration. I recorded a little bit with my phone while trying to drive, but it’s not the best. For the first time I purchased a brand new vehicle off a dealership lot…What a mistake. While the dealership itself was an awful experience I thought it was worth it for a Chevy Silverado. After all my previous one was so reliable. WRONG. The first issue I found was I was unable to shift into reverse to back out of the driveway of a fire station I volunteer at. After driving forward a couple times and shutting the vehicle off and shifting multiple times I had to be towed out in reverse. I was able to drive home but the transmissions slipped once and the vehicle slowed abruptly. The check engine light was now on. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership over the weekend and on Monday they called and informed me the 2024 Silverado misfired once and nothing was wrong with the transmission. There was nothing they could do. About two months later I was driving to work as a career firefighter/paramedic when my vehicles check engine light came on and a message informed me that I was in “reduced acceleration mode”. I slowly and carefully made my way to work and brought the truck to the dealership after my shift. The check engine light was now on again. They informed me later that day that I had a faulty valve body in my transmission. They “unfortunately” could not give me a completion date on my repair as they had no ETA for the replacement part. It appears the part is in high demand. This makes sense as a quick google search shows this is a widely known issue with the 10 speed transmission. So far I have been unable to get a rental vehicle between the dealership and GM. Aside from my house my 2024 Silverado is the largest purchase of my life. And at 15,000 miles I am without it for the foreseeable future. As a first responder the communities I serve depend on me to respond from home at any hour. My family and I are living in a DIY renovation while also starting a farm business. I need a dependable vehicle and regret spending $53,000 on a new vehicle. I have more to say.

Truck will randomly throw codes for service 4wd and forward collision unavailable, rear cross traffic unavailable, lane departure will not work, auto high beams not work, and if parked position truck will not release Park brake making truck unable to be moved. Truck has been in and out of certified dealer 3 times and problems still occurring at random. Dealer has stated they are not able to duplicate issues and can't do anything. Issues happening pose risk while driving when codes come on making all standard safety features not to work in event of a accident. Also making truck not mobile when Park brake sets in event of accident.

On 7 or 8 occasions while navigating parking lots/driveway turnaround, i bumped the resume switch on the steering wheel and the truck took off accelerating rapidly from 2-4 mph speed until I disengaged with the brake. Someone with slower reactions or unaware of what is going on is going to get hurt by this. I believe it's tied to collision avoidance system and the adaptive cruise control mode. This system will allow cruise to stay engaged even as it slows you to a halt in, e.g. a rush hour slowdown, but if it slows you to some speed just greater than zero, and the traffic ahead speeds up, it will speed back up to the cruise setting. Similarly, when cruise is disengaged by brake action, but there is still a stored value in cruise control, if you accidentally hit resume at slow speeds the logic is treating it like a traffic situation. So the old 20 or 25mph minimum engagement speed no longer applies. As for why I inadvertently hit resume, it has to do with the raised momentary rocker switch at the 9 oclock position on the steering wheel. If you make a turn with your palm against steering wheel. For example, on a left turn, if the wheel is turning counterclockwise and your left palm is in the 9 o'clock position, it can rub against the raised cruise control rocker triggering the resume function, and off she will go! A flush or recessed button/switch would have been a better choice here. At this point, a software change would be the best solution to ignore the resume function below a certain speed.

Since purchasing this truck 06/30/2024; during the 9100 miles driven, electrical issues such as check engine, EWS needs to be serviced, Forward Collision Service, Stereo screen freezing up, Tire Pressure stating air is needed but checked air pressure, it is where it should be, Right Signal Trailer service needed but not pulling a trailer. Three times after starting the truck it failed to go into reverse, stuck in neutral. Two of the three times it was able to reset after 10 minutes of shutting down the truck and restarting. Third time had to get the truck towed due to unable to reverse out of parking spot. When driving it seems as if the truck is stuck in 2nd gear while trying to accelerate, rough driving at times. When car turns off it makes knocking noise and sounds like it is trying to turn off electrically. Tailgate would open while driving even though shut and checked. Driver seat motor failing while trying to move the seat. Middle seat stays in upright locked position for days before it will release. Dealership is stating that valve body needs to be changed but will take up to 6-8 months due to backordered part, but no loaner car is available. Will have to be without a vehicle for the entire time. All is covered under warranty.

I’ve had 3 occasions of this brand new vehicles front collision avoidance system going off HARD and locking up the brakes. It scared the crap out of me as there was nothing in front of me - if I hadn’t known the truck had automatic collision software - I’d have driven to the Chevy Dealership right then. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time it really caught me off guard. The third time (inside 2 months) I realized there is something not right. I reported it to the dealership but they wanted me to trade it in for a new truck. Sorry, no. I just want to report this problem as I’ve seen a recall on other vehicles with 10 speed transmissions. Their shifting problem - is also present in the Chevy Silverado Truck - but it has not impacted my use of….

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and shifting into drive(D) or reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that a transmission valve needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred. Additionally, the contact stated while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed and was accelerating, the accelerator pedal traveled down and remained stuck, causing the vehicle to accelerate unintendedly to 50 MPH. The brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. A message advising to decelerate and to drive safely was displayed. The vehicle jerked while downshifting to low gear. The contact's son shifted to neutral(N), and the accelerator pedal was no longer stuck. The contact's son was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact's son resumed driving; however, the failure recurred while driving. The contact's son was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the transmission valve, six seals, bolts, and unknown parts were replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that she did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The contact was in the process of trading in the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and covered the repair under warranty. The failure mileage was 6,893.

My truck had a check engine light come on for the transmission 2 months ago and then it went off before it was serviced. They said they couldn’t do anything since the light went off. Then last week I didn’t have reverse and it wouldn’t shift into gear. A week after it had been in the shop they told me the transmission valve body needs to be replaced. There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( Speedometer or Tachometer.) The overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.

The issue involved multiple systems, including the ABS system, brake system, and electronic stability system (ESG), along with a significant loss of braking power. These components may still be available for inspection. My safety and that of others were seriously at risk during my morning commute in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The truck lost braking capability, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of me. Later, as I attempted to park, it again lost braking force, and I narrowly avoided crashing into bushes. The collision prevention system also failed to activate during these incidents. The problem was inspected and diagnosed by the dealership after being towed via roadside assistance. They confirmed that the battery caused the failures across multiple systems. This was not the first issue with the battery. About a month ago, the battery suddenly died, preventing the truck from starting. At that time, Chevrolet sent me a message stating that the battery status was critical. After recharging it, the vehicle functioned normally until this recent incident. The first symptoms of the latest issue appeared while I was stopped at a red light. The truck suddenly shut off and restarted on its own. Warning lights for the ABS system and brake system appeared on the dashboard. Once the light turned green and I started to accelerate, an ESG message appeared, followed by another message limiting the maximum speed to 43 mph. When I tried to brake to park the truck, the brakes were slow to respond, making it feel like the truck had completely lost braking power. The collision prevention system failed to activate, increasing the danger. Fortunately, my two babies were not in the truck at the time of the incident. This was an extremely frightening situation for me as a driver. The truck is only six months old, has 37,000 miles, and was purchased new. I believe many of these failures could have been prevented with proper safeguards. While I was lucky to avoid an

I am writing to formally report a critical safety issue involving the torque converter in my vehicle, which has put my safety and the safety of others at risk. The problem began when I noticed rumbling noises emanating from the underside of the vehicle while driving at slow speeds on any type of road. There were no warning lamps or messages displayed on the vehicle to indicate an issue. This lack of advance notice left me unaware of the potential danger, increasing the risk of an accident. Upon having the vehicle inspected by a certified dealership, it was confirmed that the torque converter had come apart. This malfunction significantly compromised the vehicle’s drivability and posed a serious safety hazard. Sudden loss of power or reduced control, which could occur due to such a failure, puts both the driver and other road users at risk of an accident. I am deeply concerned about the implications of this issue for other vehicles that may have similar defects. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to determine if it represents a broader safety concern and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent further incidents. Please feel free to contact me for any additional details or documentation related to this issue. I appreciate your attention to this urgent matter and look forward to your response. This includes all safety features that have audio alerts, navigation, stereo, blinkers. Anything audio is affected. This has now happened to my tuck 6 times since purchasing it. I have researched this online, and it has been a common issue since at least 2022 with no solution by Chevrolet. I have concerns since this affects all safety features built into the truck.
