2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

My vehicle was serviced for the Chevy L87 recall a couple of thousand miles ago. It currently has 13343 miles on it and I was driving down the road and then all of a sudden the engine just stopped and my vehicle lost power leaving me stranded on a state route XXX in [XXX], which is a dangerous route with nowhere to pull off. This issue has been going on for years now and Chevy needs to make this right. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While operating the vehicle, the front electric drive motor suffered a failure, triggering reduced propulsion warnings and rendering the primary electric powertrain inoperable. The vehicle was towed to an authorized GM dealership service center, where the defect was confirmed. To replace the failed front drive unit, technicians had to drop the front subframe cradle and completely dismantle the front suspension and steering assembly. During inspection of the disassembled components, severe mechanical galling and metal scoring were documented on the cast aluminum front steering knuckle mounting boss. Reinstalling suspension and steering hardware against structurally compromised, gouged aluminum presents a severe safety hazard of metal fatigue, stress fracture, or joint failure under dynamic loads. This vehicle is factory-rated to tow heavy loads. Dynamic cyclic forces transferred through a compromised front knuckle assembly—particularly when towing on a weight-distribution hitch—create an acute risk of structural failure and loss of directional control at highway speeds. The vehicle has remained grounded and out of service at the dealership for over 50 continuous days undergoing this high-voltage and chassis teardown.

Vehicle suddenly stalls and reduces speed at different times with no warning. At first it would show that message after car washes or rainy days but now randomly it’ll reduce speed in unexpected moments causing safety concerns. It reduces speed, stalls, drives forcefully, and shows a “reduced acceleration drive with care”. Sudden stalls have become a danger to my family and myself as we depend on this car to get to and from on a daily basis. Dealership states it’s the TCM but not covered under warranty. But the vehicle is new how is it that it already has defects

On Febuary 13th 2026 I was involved in a wreck where I re-ended another stopped vehicle. There was no warning light or automated braking executed. I braked hard but not soon enough. There was no malfunction warnings or lights displayed before (or after ) the accident showing it to be inoperative. It has been in to the dealer 3 times since. Yes it is available for inspection. Was told that it will not work if you have your foot on brake or accelerator by one technician. This truck use to brake for no reason even going 70 mph on highway. I am pretty sure GM has reprogramed to fix that issue leaving the sensitivitu so low it now does not work at all.

Tried to start the Chevy Silverado 1500 remotely and it was unresponsive using the remote start key fob. The truck was then started with the push start button inside the truck. There was no instrument panel errors or warnings when the truck was first started and began driving it. Upon taking the truck out of park and starting to drive, the brake pedal was extremely hard to push, and the steering was extremely hard to turn. It took a long distance to stop the truck while moving very slowly in a parking lot. The truck was also very hard to steer as if all power steering assistance had failed. The truck was put in park. Immediately after the truck was shifted into park, the instrument panel reported ABS, powertrain and steering column lock errors. After being turned off for 20 minutes, it was restarted and the only error on the instrument panel was a check engine light. The brake pedal pressure returned to normal and the breaking started working. The steering was now easy to turn and working as well. It was drove slowly, a very short distance to the dealership where it has been for the last week and a half. They have diagnosed and replaced the ECM, ABS and master cylinder. They continue to receive braking system error codes.

There is a bad glare that comes off the hood scoop on the bison edition that blinds a driver while driving causing a high risk of an accident

NHTSA ID 11739148 · filed May 20, 2026

I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado that resulted in a child being locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside the car. On March 25 2026, after parking and turning off the vehicle, I exited the driver’s seat with my key fob inside my purse, which remained in the front of the vehicle. I then walked around to remove my daughter from the back seat. During that time, she climbed into the front seat and pressed the interior door lock button, locking all doors. My daughter has autism and is not able to follow instructions or unlock the vehicle on command. As a result, she was locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside, and I was unable to gain access from the outside. The vehicle did not prevent the lock from engaging, nor did it allow me to open the door despite the key being inside the vehicle. This situation required emergency assistance (911) to safely remove her from the vehicle. I understand that many vehicles have “lockout prevention” features; however, in this case, the system did not account for a vulnerable occupant inside the vehicle. Allowing the vehicle to be locked from the interior while the key fob is inside—and without any external override—creates a significant child safety risk. I am requesting that Chevrolet review this design behavior as a potential safety issue, specifically: - Why the vehicle allows interior locking when a key fob is detected inside - Why there is no external override to unlock the vehicle when the key is present - Whether a software update or safety feature enhancement can address this risk This is not just a convenience issue—it is a safety hazard that can lead to dangerous outcomes, especially for children or individuals with disabilities. Please confirm receipt of this concern and advise whether this issue has been previously identified or is under review.

This is a brand new vehicle with 1100 miles and has been declared a total loss due to the severity of the front end damage. The the body shop was also commenting on this fact.

The car seat anchor system is very poorly designed and extremely difficult to use. I just spent an hour trying to ensure the seats for our grandchildren are installed correctly. The upper anchors are poorly placed, difficult to access and do not inspire confidence the seats will be secure in the event of an accident. This is after I had to take the truck in for a warranty claim because the lower car seat anchor on the back seat passenger side was covered by factory upholstery and could not be used at all. It’s very frustrating when one attempts to comply with safety regulations but poor design inhibits the proper installation of car seats.

Tire: 275/60R20 I was driving at the top of Bay bridge, MD and the rear tire just blew up and automatically messaged came on the gauge cluster and my phone that there’s 0psi in the tire so I had to stop on top of the bridge and put a spare on which was quite dangerous but I had no choice because I couldn’t drive on the rim, tow truck showed up and helped me, I had only couple ladders on the back so there was almost no additional weight on the tires and at only couple months old vehicle with only 4,900 miles this should’ve happened. I automatically went to the dealership that I bought the truck and showed them the picture where it happened and what exactly happened and at first they wanted me to pay for the tire but I insisted that they will have to replace it for free because they sold me a vehicle with defective tire so days later they did install a new tire as a one time courtesy they said, but I did check on this tire and there’s a 3yr free replacement warranty if it’s a defective tire but the dealer didn’t tell me that, so now I wonder if any of my other tires will have the same defect?
