2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Electrical Problems

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that after turning off the vehicle with a trailer hitched to the vehicle, the trailer brake lights failed to turn off. The contact disconnected the trailer from the vehicle for the trailer brake lights to turn off. Additionally, the electric trailer brakes and turn signals intermittently failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer could not determine where the wiring harness 120-Volt power was going and was unable to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. Driving down the highway at 60mph, dash started blinking for trailer brake service needed. Was not trailering anything. Within 3 seconds I had smoke filling the cab, pulled over and got out. Within 3min truck was fully engulfed totally gone. God forbid I was alone but even at that I did not have time to get many things out and keep imagining what a different day I’d be looking at if there were kids with me.

In May 2026, my vehicle began exhibiting serious and dangerous problems. It would shake violently after starting and occasionally stop on its own while driving. On [XXX], my wife and I got into the vehicle and started driving from our home in West Virginia. While driving uphill at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly began shaking severely and then came to a complete stop. After a few moments, it restarted itself and accelerated to about 30–40 mph while continuing to shake violently. This happened several times during the trip. Fuel consumption also became extremely abnormal, dropping to approximately 6 miles per gallon. Because Team One Chevrolet in Oakland, Maryland, is the nearest dealer, we drove there for service. After several hours, the dealer returned the vehicle and informed us that they had replaced a sensor. However, after leaving the dealership, the Check Engine light came on again after only three engine starts. I immediately returned to the dealership, where the warning light was cleared. The following day, the Check Engine light returned. When I contacted the dealership, I was told to continue driving the vehicle with the warning light on for one to two weeks. After more than a week, I returned to the dealership, and the light was reset again. A few days later, the same problem reappeared. At that point, I was informed that, according to dealership procedures, replacement parts could not be ordered until the issue had been reported three times. After the third visit, the parts were finally ordered, and I was required to wait several more weeks for another service appointment. I also reported the issue directly to Chevrolet. Despite multiple visits, repeated failures, and a significant amount of time spent attempting repairs, my vehicle remains unrepaired. My factory warranty is approaching expiration, and no one has provided a clear answer regarding what will happen if the upcoming repair attempt fails to resolve the problem. Power tailgate opens and closes by itself. Safety of others is at risk if materials fall out on the road while driving if the tailgate opens by itself. There has been a recall for this but my truck vin is not included yet had the same issue. No warning when tailgate started having issues.

Batteries being drawn down from a parasitic draw. Tailgate won’t operate from outside the truck and infotainment system malfunctioning also lights flashing periodically. This is the second time in about a month this has happened. The first time the dealer said I had bad batteries so I replaced both of them with Napa batteries. Waiting to hear from the dealer now on the findings this time.

The check engine light goes on continously and it goes to limp mode. The truck cannot be driven daily and most of the time is in the dealer fixing the updates or computer. It is not an equipment problem but a computer problem.

I was leaving my farm property after loading my truck and tailgate and drove home 20 miles. At some point in the drive my tailgate dropped and fell onto the trailer tongue. This caused damage to my tailgate. I have called the dealer and they informed me there was a recall on the tailgate latch but they completed the work on the recall defect. I am questioning this and want to understand what to do now. I don't trust the tailgate and the truck has no warning system for when the tailgate drops like a door open signal.

Very limited while driving in the dark cause head lights go off and can’t drive in the rain or snow cause wipers turn off not save for my family and I and other drivers on the road Thai all happen, After the dealer (Lithia Chevrolet of Redding, CA) performed GM recall programming on the Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) and related software updates, my truck began having serious electrical failures. Immediately after the recall work, all exterior lights, interior lights, and trailer lights began flickering on and off while driving. The windshield wipers also pause or stop for a moment when this happens. None of these issues existed before the recall. This appears to be a module reset or corrupted calibration caused during the recall reprogramming. GM has already told NHTSA that they have hundreds of field complaints about flickering headlamps on 2024 trucks, and they identified lighting flicker as a safety defect. My symptoms match those issues exactly. The dealer refuses to accept responsibility, saying the recall is “closed,” but the electrical failure only began immediately after their programming. This is a safety hazard when driving at night or in the rain, and it affects the trailer braking/lighting circuits as well. I have an active GM case opened for this issue. The truck is unsafe to operate in this condition. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the recall programming is causing electrical module failures and whether additional action is needed.

I bought my track about a year ago. Within the first week of owning it. Multiple times a week, when I start it there is no sound. No radio, music, blinkers, etc. Absolutely no sound. Some of the time once I get to where im going, turn it off. Once I start it again it's back. The other times takes a couple times to hear it again. When I asked the dealership, I was told it's a known issue. 9 months later it still does it. Some weeks once or twice. Other weeks up to 10 times. I pd alot of money for my truck and yes I expect it to have no problems like this.

While pulling my Vilano fifth wheel trailer to Alabama from my home state of Texas the driver information center alerted me that the trailer brakes were disconnected. Then a short while later it alerted that trailer brakes were connected. This situation continued for the entire trip to Alabama. When the info center indicated trailer brakes were disconnected, they were indeed not working. Several times I almost rear ended cars stopping in front of me. (The vehicle had a recall notice urging to take it in and replace the brake module shortly after purchasing it. I did this.) Once I arrived in Alabama I took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealership in Foley, Alabama to check the braking system. They told me there was no problem with the braking system. I retrurned to my home in Little Elm, Texas with the problem occurring the entire trip. I finally made it home and today took the vehicle to James Wood Chevrolet in Denton, Texas to have the braking systme checked again. They told me there was nothing wrong with the braking system. The service writer did say that because the trailer has LED lights the braking system does not recognize the voltage from the trailer and that is why the brakes are disconnecting. Please help me find out how to correct this extremely dangerous condition while I am towing my 16,000 pound fifth wheel trailer.

But other 2024 Chevy 2500 have had recalls for it. Would like a recall for my vin die to this being an issue if an accident occurs. Traveling with multiple 10K pound trailers and no brakes.

My trailer brake controller routinely does not allow me to adjust the brake gain. Multiple times (and on recorded video), I’ve had instances where I could not increase gain while hauling heavy loads in the trailer and this has caused me to lose my ability to stop the vehicle effectively. This has nearly cause accidents a few times while hauling on the interstate, and down my mountain road. The driver must be able to adjust trailer gain at any point while operating the vehicle. This issue has happened with multiple trailers. I’ve taken the vehicle in multiple times and had the brake controller components replaced but this issue still exists and the dealerships are unable to resolve. I was informed I have trailer issues even though this only occurs in this vehicle while towing and not other vehicles pulling the trailers. This is a major safety issue and will cause an accident if it isn’t resolved. My only option at this point is to purchase an aftermarket brake controller as my factory brake controller is unsafe. I have multiple videos of this issue and nearly had the trailer push me over my mountain from the issue. This issue has happened since I purchased the vehicle and continues to happen. There are multiple service records which show I requested the brake controller to be fixed. This isn’t a one time date or speed. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the audible chime failed to sound whenever the doors were opened, or the seat belt buckle was unlatched. No warning light was illuminated. While driving with a trailer connected the display in the truck will say trailer disconnected. Then the light will go away and come back on. The trailer plug and the trailer are connected and the plug is tight. When this happens the trailer braking system is disabled (trailer has no brakes) I can plug the same trailer to Ford or Dodge with no issues. Have had the Chevy to the dealer 4 times now and they are unable to duplicate the problem. I have researched the problem on the internet and there are a lot of discussions of other people having the same issue. GMC has replaced the trailer control module, but this did not fix my problem. I am at the point the dealer and GMC are giving me the run around. I bought this truck for commercial use and frequently haul trailers. It is very unsafe when the brakes on the trailer are disabled.

I would like to report a hazardous issue with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado trailer braking power mode. The trailer braking system turns on and off when the loaded trailer is connected; this represents a security hazard since this truck is used for work and we move heavy pieces of metal and glass. This issue was reported several times to the dealership Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet in Coconut Creek, FL. Also, the manufacturer provided a letter indicating the replacement of some parts. As indicated, I took the truck to Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet in Coconut Creek, FL, on [XXX] for the corresponding service; however, the truck is still presenting the same issues. We tried different trailers, including a U-Haul trailer, and still had the same dysfunctionality. Please advise how to proceed. When pulling trailers I frequently get warning to check trailer wiring. I have gotten this warning with every trailer I have towed to include, my travel trailer(camper), livestock trailer, car hauler trailer and enclosed cargo trailer. It is intermittent but frequent. I am unsure if trailer brakes will engage during this failure.
