At random times, the ignition will shut down while driving, causing the power steering and power brakes to lose function. The only way to correct this is to shift gear into neutral and restart the engine. This has occurred while driving in town and on the highway without any warning or warning lights on the dashboard. This could result in a crash and harm to passengers due to not having control over steering and brakes while the vehicle is in motion. This problem has occurred multiple times in the past year or so. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic, but was unable to identify the issue and it would not replicate. I researched the vehicle symptoms, and found a recall from 2015 that related to the same issues (TSB# R03, WIN Modual FOBIK replacement). All additional keys and keychain/FOB were removed from the ignition key to see if this would help. Since the issue was still happening, it was then taken to a Chrysler dealership, where again the diagnostics did not reveal the issue and they were unable to replicate the problem. Multiple attempts made to discuss this issue with Chrysler without any assistance in finding a solution thus far. This vehicle is normally driven daily as a family car and regularly transports children. This is a huge safety concern and issue that needs to be addressed and fixed, as the vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point and the potential liability is great.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.

For the past several years we have tried to get power to examine the conditio. To no avail. Several times a week when we are driving the car will shut off and we lose power steering, the van turns off and we have to switch it into park to continue. Some day it happens several times. It seems like it is an occurance happening in other cars. ( see NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 14V373000. & 11V139000 ). I am worried bc it has almost led to several wrecks:.. it effects electrical. The ignition. Power steering and more. Also the air conditioner/ coolest has stopped working. We have to have tried multiple solutions with no avail… please help! And let me know if I can help With anything!
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
My A/C Compressor Unit froze up. Tearing my Serpentine Belt. Causing my engine to not run at all. My Driver side window Switch wiring melted. So now my window does not function at all. My vehicle doesn't go over 40mph and no longer shifts properly. Most of my engine wiring has melted. I have replaced the MAP Sensor, but it says there is a problem with the circuit. Also says a problem with the Barometric sensor, which I have yet to find. I had to replace the water pump. My cooling fan has totally stopped working. My key sticks in the ignition. I have replaced the battery and starter. I have also replaced the ignition coil pack, Spark plugs and wires. I thought this may be the reason it was having issues starting, but it still continues. My vehicle will studder or stall out while driving. Causing it to lose power, steering. Sometimes the van just doesn't start. Or it will seem like it wants to start, but it doesn't "fire." Sounding like a starter issue, but the starter has already been replaced
I WAS DRIVING YESTERDAY WITH MY 3 KIDS AND THE VAN SHUTDOWN WITHOUT WARNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT BECAME A VERY DANGEROUS EVENT SINCE WE DID NOT HAVE BREAKING AND VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. AFTER, GETTING TO THE SHOULDER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN, ALTHOUGH IT HAD A FULL TANK OF FUEL. THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION. AND IT LOCK THE STARTER IN THE IGNITION PHASE AS IF I WAS HOLDING THE KEY ON AFTER THE CAR STARTS. I CYCLED THE KEY AND NOTICED THAT IF I HELD IT RIGHT, IT WOULD NOT LOCK THE STARTER IN THE STARTING POSITION. HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. I SAW THERE WERE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE AND ONE ABOUT THE IGNITION.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that after activating the headlight switch, the headlights would blink off and on twice before turning off. The contact stated that the failure was present on both the low beam and high beam headlights, making the vehicle undrivable at night. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who uninstalled an aftermarket remote starter and replaced a multifunction high beam selector switch; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 156,577.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that he was unable to drive the vehicle at night because to the headlights were inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called an unknown dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure but provided no additional assistance. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed him that the switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000.

Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim

While driving, the engine will shut off resulting in a loss of power steering and brakes, amongst other systems. Very hazardous. Previous models have been recalled for this same issue and I would like to report it is STILL an issue in the 2010 town & country limited.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owned a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a tire center, where a routine alignment was performed. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, the wheels locked up, and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the tire center, which eventually took possession of the vehicle due to the contact's inability to pay the service fee. The contact walked to the residence. The contact called the FTC and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The end of the tire stem broke off when I was refilling the tires. This prevented the tires from staying filled and I was nervous about driving the vehicle until I could get it to a shop to be repaired. We replaced all the stems, but replacing the sensors was too expensive. If this damage had occurred while driving, a sudden flat tire could have been very dangerous. Never thought to take pictures for a report until after we had already replaced the valves.
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Town And Country. The contact stated that while driving on a highway at 45 MPH, the driver's side door caught on fire from the vent window switch. The contact was able to reach her residence in time to exit the vehicle, and to call her husband who quickly rushed over to extinguish the fire. A fire department report was not filed. The contact stated that the door latch was melted and the door was no longer lockable. The contact mentioned during the failure she inhaled smoke and was coughing but no physical injuries were sustained. The contact received medical attention for her smoke inhalation. The local dealer was contacted and the contact was advised that the soonest appointment available for a diagnostic was early next year. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,633.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving the whole car stopped working, everything just died. Power steering, gas, power brakes, everything. I was able to, thankfully, get to the side of the HIGHWAY, and put the car into park. I gave the car a few minutes, then it started back up again. This is not the first time this has happened, just the first time on a highway. I've taken my van to a dealership before and they can't "reproduce" the problem so they don't fix anything. Meanwhile, my life and the life of my family are in danger because I don't know if my van is going to shut down while I'm driving. There was no warning it was going to happen, the steering just goes out and you have no power.

THE BACK SEATS HAVE NO SAFETY DESIGN WHATSOEVER. I WAS IN THE BACK TRYING TO INSTALL A CARSEAT IN THE ONE SEAT AND PUSHED THE BUTTON TO FOLD THE BENCH INTO NORMAL USE POSITION AND IT STARTED UP NORMAL, AND A TINY BIT OF THE CARSEAT WAS BUMPING INTO IT WHEN IT GOT STUCK, I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH IT BACK TO THE LEFT SIDE DOWN POSITION AGAIN TO REMOVE THE SEAT AND IT REFUSED TO STOP... IT KEPT GOING AFTER PUSHING IT 10+ TIMES AND EVENTUALLY STARTED GRINDING AND THEN CONTINUED TO TWIST THE LEFT SIDE METAL BRACKET THAT HELPS THE SEAT MOVE. IT NOW WILL NOT GO UP AGAIN AND I AM TERRIFIED TO EVEN HAVE A CHILD SEATED BACK THERE AFTER SEEING HOW NEGLECTFUL THE DESIGN IS TO SAFETY FOR THE THIRD ROW SEATING.
