2014 Chrysler Town And Country Problems

2014 Chrysler Town & Country experienced active diagnostic trouble code P2764 — Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Circuit Low. Vehicle was non-driveable. Authorized Chrysler dealership technician documented that voltage from TIPM to Valve Body was shorted to ground — confirming a wiring harness electrical defect. The dealership replaced the Valve Body three separate times without resolving the defect. The wiring harness was never permanently repaired despite being identified as the root cause. Manufacturer issued written admission that no repair could ensure resolution after 210 days out of service. The electrical short in the wiring harness affecting the transmission control circuit represents a safety defect that rendered the vehicle inoperable and uncontrollable during acceleration.

No warning light was illuminated before the failure. The contact's son received medical attention for smoke inhalation. The Police and local Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. A Fire report was filed however, the Fire report number was not provided. The origin of the fire was the 110-Volt charging port due to an electrical failure. The contact stated that the child seat was also damaged and needed to be replaced due to the plastic being burned. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where it remained for several weeks. However, the vehicle was later towed back to the local independent dealer where the vehicle was purchased and remained at the dealer for further investigation. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

Vehicle engine exploded in the middle of the night. Car would remote start on its own as I would lock the doors and walk away prior to the incident. Also the airbag light would come off and on. Notice the day of the incident that the dimmer would disappear and reappear. Very strange I thought. The house could've burned down while we were sleeping. If it wasn't for our neighbors and the quick response of those firefighters it could've possibly burned the house down while we were in there sleeping. The van was picked up by the insurance company two days ago. Not sure what happened as far as it being inspected yet. They have given me the silent treatment. Went to a Chrysler dealership, not where I bought it. This van has had one recall done in 2015. Rear quarter vent window switch.

Having to have a new oil cooling housing replaced at 94,102 miles. Also had to change out front struts around 87,000 miles

The passenger headrest opened without a traffic incident.

In August 2025, the front passenger Active Head Restraint (AHR) experienced a sudden mechanical failure and deployed unexpectedly. I immediately contacted my local Chrysler dealership, where a replacement headrest was ordered. The part was placed on an indefinite backorder with no estimated time of arrival (ETA). After several months of receiving no communication, I followed up with the dealer and was given an ETA of May 2, 2026. When that date passed with no word or resolution, I returned to the dealership on June 18, 2026, only to be informed that the parts delivery date had been pushed back yet again to July 3, 2026. In an attempt to make the seat usable, I initially attempted to secure the broken mechanism with heavy-duty zip ties, but the internal spring tension was too strong for them to hold. I was forced to use a ratchet strap to compress it; however, over time, the strap slips under the constant pressure and must be repeatedly retightened. Because Chrysler has failed to provide a critical replacement safety component for nearly a year, I am trapped in a double-sided safety hazard. If I leave the headrest exploded, the seat is physically unusable. Because I am forced to temporarily bind the headrest flat just to utilize the seat, the front passenger now has zero whiplash protection in a rear-end collision. Furthermore, this unstable, makeshift binding poses a continuous, unvetted impact and projectile risk to the middle-row passenger sitting directly behind it. By failing to maintain a reasonable parts supply for a known defect, Chrysler is forcing me to drive a vehicle with a structurally compromised safety system.

Driving home from work, went over train tracks and heard a pop from the passenger air bag. It did not deploy all the way, just came open. I looked online for a recall and although its very common, there wasn't one. It's a plastic peice that let go and it needs complete replacement.

2014 Chrysler Town & Country – VIN [XXX] Both front active head restraints (driver and passenger) have self-deployed without any crash or impact, on two separate occasions about 3–4 years apart. The first occurred around 2019. Each time we were driving normally with occupants seated. We heard a sudden “pop” and the head restraint opened, exposing the internal mechanism. No one was struck or injured, but the unexpected deployment was distracting and occurred close to an occupant. After each event, the head restraint could not be reset or closed and remains deployed. The vehicle now has an airbag/SRS warning light that stays on, suggesting the restraint system may not function properly in a crash. There were no warning lights or symptoms before deployment. The deployed head restraints are still installed and available for inspection. A Chrysler dealer previously acknowledged the issue and ordered a replacement head restraint, but the repair was not completed due to relocation during the COVID period. The transmission failed. There were no lights on on the dash, vehicle started making a whining noise and within 12 hrs of the onset the transmission started to fail. The van would lose the ability to accelerate and put my family and other in danger because it happened on the highway and our vehicle was stopped in traffic. The check engine light did not come on until a few hours AFTER the transmission failed, but there were no light indicators prior to this happening. The transmission has been replaced after the damaged transmission was inspected by our mechanic and he stated that with less than 100k miles on the vehicle, based on the amount of metal and debris in the transmission pan, there must have been an issue with it during manufacturing. The original transmission will be returned shortly for a core refund, so will not be available for additional inspection after that. The van was test driven by our mechanic and the issue was replicated while he was driving, ie, it would not accelerate after about 5 minutes of driving.

Rear passenger door is stuck in the locked position and cannot be unlocked manually or with the fob. This is dangerous if children in the rear seats would need to exit the vehicle.

When vehicle is exposed to consistent sunlight and heat during the spring/summer months, the driver's side power sliding door will not latch properly, causing the door to repeatedly try to latch itself shut. This occurs when opening/closing the door, and also while the vehicle is in motion. For example, if the door is shut properly, and the vehicle goes over a bump or something disrupts the ride, the door will think it is open, the warning light comes on the dashboard, the interior lights activate and the electric latch motor will repeatedly activate until the van thinks the door is closed. Even when parked, I have returned to the vehicle to find the door trying to close itself

While traveling at highway speed 65 MPH when the engine and electrical went off without warning, causing all lights, in and out to go off, power steering to be lost and I'm sure power brakes to be compromised. Was able to put vehicle in neutral and restart the engine while coasting. This did happen at night leaving the vehicle without lights while it is coasting and loosing speed on a busy freeway. This has happened a few times previously but this is the first time on the freeway.

GOING 65MPH ON MAJOR HIGHWAY WENT OFF ROAD TAKING OUT MULTIPLE BIG CONCRETE IN GROUND SIGNS. THEN WENT ON 2WHEELS SLAMMED BACK DOWN IN A DOWN HILL MEDIAN. NO AIRBAGS WAS DEPLOYED. TOWN & COUNTRY TOTAL LOSS. ENTIRE FRONT END DAMAGED AND BACK PASSENGER AXEL & WINDSHIELD HUGE CINDER BLOCK TYPE HOLES WITH SHARDS OF GLASS EVERYWHERE EVEN IN OUR EARS! NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED OR ATTEMPTED. I HAD ALMOST HALF TANK GAS NOW EMPTY LIGHT IS ON.

Back-Up camera/alert system fails frequently. Yes, I can make it available for inspection. Safety concern is obvious Problem has not been reproduced or confirmed No inspection has been performed No prior warning.

1.) my tire pressure warning light remains on and unable to detect if tires are actually low or not. It remains on even when tire pressure is at correct level. I got it checked by mechanic and he agreed that something is wrong with the sensor/system. 2.) both of my side mirror sensors will not turn off. I was driving and they were off (were previously working as normal), but then I went to get into another lane and someone was in my blind spot and I nearly hit them. Now they stay on and aren’t able to be utilized or trusted. There was no prior warning to any of these issues and now my vehicle feels extremely unsafe as I cannot use the safety features nor trust the tire pressure indicator.

The steering wheel controls stopped working. Had a mechanic look at it and said it was the clock spring contacts were compromised.

ON 1/17/21, THE VAN ENGINE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. THIS CAUSED LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. I COASTED TO STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD, WAITED A BIT, AND RESTARTED THE VAN. IT DROVE FOR AOUT 3 MILES WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. PROBLEM APPEARS INTERMITTENT SINCE IT HASN'T HAPPENED WHEN I BRIELFY DROVE THE CAR ON 1/18 AND 1/19. DEALER IS SAYING THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH CAR (TOOK CAR IN TO DEALER ON 1/20)

POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE. I HAVE HAD NOT ONE, BUT TWO POWER WINDOW REGULATORS FAIL WHILE ROLLING THE WINDOWS UP. THE REGULATORS SHATTERED INSIDE MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT DOORS ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THIS CAUSED THE WINDOWS TO FALL INTO THE DOORS. I'M TOLD I'M LUCKY THE WINDOWS DIDN'T SHATTER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AND THE WINDOW SUDDENLY FALLS DOWN, AND AN OBVIOUS SECURITY ISSUE IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS NO WINDOW.

KUNES COUNTRY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF OREGON 601 GALE ST, OREGON, IL 61061, WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

I was driving on I95 and the car completely shut down. The RPM went to 0. It started up again after about twenty minutes. I had the car repaired (throttle body replaced) and since that incident I have had this same thing happen four more times. The car seems to “resets” itself. I have had the throttle body replaced twice, the ignition control switch twice, the relay harness and then the relay redone. The van only does this periodically. The dealership had my van for six weeks and “couldn’t duplicate the problem “. This usually happens when driving for over an hour and speeds over 65mph. Last week I was driving to work, eleven miles from home and it happened again. The van restarted after sitting about thirty minutes.

I drive for Lyft and Uber and have had this vehicle spontaneously shut down while I am driving. I have had three places check it and it is NOT the starter, battery, or alternator. I have replaced the ECU and other items and the mechanics cannot tell me what's wrong. Furthermore, there are NO codes that show on the vehicle. The vehicle on the way to the mechanic shut down in traffic and as per usual, started back up and the traction control light came on. When the mechanic disconnected the positive cable on the battery to check the alternator, battery, and starter the code disappeared and the car drove fine on the way home. I have lost a lot of wages due to this issue and now I am afraid to drive the car. I have seen on several forums that this was an issue in the 2011 recall and now it is happening yet again. My car is a 2014 and others are both older and younger, all suffering from this same very scary detail. I hope I am not injured, nor anyone else will be injured, due to this issue. Mechanics are stumped with the problem. I have contacted an attorney and my next step is to call Chrysler but I do not expect them to address this issue unless or until many people die, are injured and then they get sued. Please let me know what, if anything, else I should do. I am putting you on notice of the issue and it's being widespread. In order to make sure I cover all my bases, this issue has happened now about 4x a week, it is not predictable, nor is it consistent with how fast or how slow I may be driving. I have had plenty of gas in the engine.

One or more low tire pressure sensors on my vehicle is faulty and causing the light on my dash to be illuminated although my tires are not low. I was told by my mechanic that there is a recall for this issue on 2014 Town and Country vans (which is what I have), although apparently my VIN is not included in the recall. Perhaps it should be? It will be causing the same safety issues for me as other 2014 T+C van owners.

Since I bought this vehicle from A from a used dealer as is, the passenger restraint indicator on the dashboard comes on and off, the tire pressure warning indicator, even after proper inflation will not turn off and the passenger head restraint popped out forward almost a year ago.

The contact stated while driving at various speeds, he smelled a strong burning odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, he noticed that there was fuel leaking on the rear driver's side wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer Mobility Works where the modified vehicle was originally purchased. The dealer diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V264000 (Suspension). The dealer replaced the mounting bracket with a revised bracket that was welded to the vehicle chassis; however, the dealer declined to add the suspension strap. As a result of the repair, the vehicle was no longer aligned. The contact stated that the vehicle sticker indicated that it had been modified by Eldorado National-Kansas. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
