2020 Ford Edge Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2020 Ford Edge, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Our 2020 Ford Edge SEL has experienced ongoing shuddering and hesitation while driving. The Ford dealership inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the torque converter as the likely cause, recommending approximately $4,500 in repairs. The torque converter has not been replaced and is available for inspection. We obtained a second opinion from an independent repair shop, which replaced the EGR sensors and updated them in an attempt to resolve the issue. The problem has created a safety concern because the vehicle does not always accelerate or operate normally while driving. The exact cause remains UNKNOWN, and the issue has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives.

Car stutters, shudders, and hesitates from stopped position. Vehicle does not excelerate smoothly. Safety concern when pulling out into traffic, crossing intersection, or leaving stop. Paducah Ford said it is torque converter and independent mechanic says that as well. Ford issued tech service information concerning shudder for Ford Edge 8F35 transmission and provides a repair procedure for torque converter and output planetary assembly. I am concerned because it may represent a recurring safety related defect affecting other Ford Edge vehicles

transmission, skipping and shuttering and according to dealership not catching gear occurs during slow speeds. When in drive car will roll backwards and when in reverse car will roll forward. Transmission runs high until gear catches. Engine will then go in to neutral until clutch catches.in according to dealership repair will cost $7000-$11,000. i was told this is unusual. And none of it is covered under warranty

Is cutting out when going, camera is failing, heated mirrors are not working, 10 codes are showing up on mechanics scan tool. Took to ford dealership they disregarded my concern and only changed differential fluid for a weird sound concern that is already on a recall but didn’t include this vin and didn’t check for any other diagnosis. Been to 3 shops nobody is figuring it out.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while parked on two occasions, the driver's seatbelt failed to retract and was inoperable. The contact stated that after a few attempts to pull the seatbelt, the seatbelt retracted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The contact stated that the seatbelt was kept latched when exiting the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,500.

NHTSA ID 11749253 · filed Jul 9, 2026

Over a dozen times, when my car sits outside in the sun on a hot day, my drivers side seat belt becomes locked in the retracted position. I am unable to use my seatbelt until my car cools down which takes appoximately 15-20 of my AC running on MAX AC. During this time, I either have to sit in my car and not drive or I have to drive without a seatbelt until it unlocks. This is a safety hazard because as a healthcare worker, I need to be able to get to my job when I need to be there. At any given time, I should be able to get into my vehicle and drive immediately with my seatbelt on. No warning lights come up on my dash when this occurs, I just can't put my seatbelt on. I brought the vehicle to the dealership and they said I need to replace my seatbelt for the price of ~$950. This is something that needs to be recalled and repaired at the cost of FORD. I have read numerous people online complaining of the exact same issue with their driver side seatbelt.

rear camera keeps going blue and then will go out. But it will come back for a day or so and then go out again. I know this is a known problem on these vehicles and I need mine fixed. As well as the purge valve that has also been a known issue as well

NHTSA ID 11743134 · filed Jun 10, 2026

This is my wife’s car, I have already had to replace the evap hoses on this car twice due to faulty motor craft purge valves. I also replaced the charcoal canister before the second time I replaced the evap hoses so somewhere in the system there is a faulty part. Now at 80,000 miles my wife’s car is experiencing what many others are calling “shuddering”. How am I supposed to get anywhere in life when I just paid this car off and now I need a new transmission after I have done all services as specified by manufacturer.

XXX, I parked my Edge car around 11am. I always put the car into park mode before turning off vehicle! The road was flat, good weather and had no previous issues/warnings. I went into building. My gray Ford Edge 2020 ST with 105,000. miles is a wonderful vehicle! I came out of appointment about an hour later and my Edge had rolled backwards 6 to 8 feet! It almost hit another vehicle, parked behind my car! I immediately took my car to local Ford dealership service, Baugh Ford, [XXX]. I was told I needed to pay 1500 dollars for the vehicle to be taken apart to get an estimate of what needed to be fixed? I don’t have 1500 dollars to just give to ford service for them to look online and find what other years and other Ford models have had with this exactly same safety recall! This is a HUGE safety issue and FORD DOES NOT want to fix because this is a vehicle that I paid off in 7 years, have been only driver and never been in any accidents! Rear hatch closed on my teenage daughters hand and would not open with remote, button on hatch or the button on dash. Her hand was stuck and the only way to get her out was to take a pry bar to open it enough. Thank goodness we were home and I have tools. This could have been much worse.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V575000 (Visibility) and the vehicle was repaired before the contact took ownership of the vehicle. The contact stated that after taking ownership of the vehicle, the rearview camera failed to display an image in the rear of the vehicle. The camera displayed a black screen in cold and snowy weather. The contact stated that the carpet near the wheel wells would collect snow causing ice to form around the tires, causing damages to the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V575000 (Visibility) was related to the present failure; however, the vehicle could not be repaired free of charge. The dealer had placed washers near the wheels to prevent snow from accumulating by holding down the carpet. The vehicle was sprayed with a liquid to prevent further damage to the wheel wells as well as another liquid on the back over the camera to ensure that the rear of the vehicle would be properly displayed. The contact stated that the repairs only prevented the failure from occurring temporarily. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 86,000.

Ford designed the vehicle with soy based insulation on the wires in the wiring harness, this attracts rodents which eat away at the wiring harness. Ford is aware of this but refuses to compensate or repair the damage. When the harness is compromised the tail lights, passenger airbag, passenger seatbelt and cross traffic warning indicators do not work. This presents multiple safety issues. The vehicle has been diagnosed by ford stating the damage was caused by rodents entering the passenger compartment through the outside vent of the heating system. My vehicle has been repaired three times for the same issue. Ford has refused to warrantee any damage and has tld me to turn it in to my insurance which I had done. this has caused my insurance premium to increase due to the claim. I have all the documentation from the occurrences and the transcript of my conversation with Ford customer service. I want at minimum the vehicle fixed or replaced at Fords expense. Previously Ford had spoken with my insurance company and told them the harness needed to be spliced, they did not replace the entire harness this caused the rodents to return and damage more of the harness..

I bought this car on 12/15 with 97k miles on it, and the second day it started jilting very badly when SLIGHTLY acceleration. Now, I have noticed when I am at a stop light, it takes an additional 2-5 seconds to “Jult” back up to speed while everyone else that was at the light is very much so ahead of me. There were a few times the car didn’t accelerate, and the person behind me almost hit me.

Gear change struggles and shudders during 2nd to 4th gear (18-39 mph) when pressing the gas pedal. Driving in sport mode does help but not for long. This problem disappears when cruise control is activated. Went to workshop and had to replace the torque converter. Several owners report similar problems. I bought this car with a mileage of 103,000 miles and it seems to already have some jerking during gear changes but not as bad. It got worse around 120,000 miles. The safety was not of a concern, but the driving dynamics was concerning since the whole vehicle was shaking during gear changes. I checked the NHTSA website and it this vehicle did not have any recalls so far. Another slightly minor but inconvenient issue is the TPMS sensor malfunction. Most of the time the sensors seem to be working perfectly but every time I drive above 50 mph for at least half an hour the dashboard shows TPMS sensor malfunctioning. After I turned off the engine for at least 15 to 30 minutes and I turn on the engine again. The problem seems to disappear temporarily
