IN-TANK FUEL PUMP FAILED AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES, STRANDING US BESIDE THE ROAD FOR MANY HOURS IN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS LOCATION. WAS NOT DIAGNOSED ON FIRST FAILURE. WHEN COOL, WORKED AGAIN, AND WE WENT ON. FAILED AGAIN ON NEXT DAY. DEALER WHO REPAIRED STATED 42ND PUMP REPLACE SO FAR THIS YEAR. IF ONE DEALER REPLACED THIS MANY, PROBLEM MUST BE ENORMOUS NATIONWIDE.I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT CAN STRAND YOU IN DANGEROUS LOCATIONS. WE WERE TOWED THE FIRST TIME, BUT THE PROBLEM HAD GONE AWAY BY THE TIME WE WERE DROPPED OFF. THE SECOND TIME, THE DEALER ADVISED US TO LET IT COOL DOWN AND DRIVE IN. THE DEALER HAD REPLACED SO MANY HE KNEW JUST WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS.COST OF REPAIRS WAS $658.59. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD RE-IMBURSE FOR REPAIRS CONSIDERING LARGE NUMBER OF FAILURES, AND THE SAFETY ISSUE!

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
