2010 Ford Fusion Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) malfunctioned causing the brakes to give out while I was driving the vehicle. Luckily I was on a residential street and I was able to safely pull over, but it could have caused a major accident had it not happened in that location. After taking it to two auto-shops, both concluded that it was a problem with the ABS system. There is an open recall for the 2010 Ford Fusion for the same exact issue (Recall number: 19S54), however it does not cover the Hybrid model, even though it is the same exact issue. In order to stop the vehicle, I need to press down on the brake pedal very very hard and use the emergency brake. It is not safe to drive, and it is a substantial and costly problem with the vehicle to repair. I would like my car to be part of that recall program, or at least be able to be recalled for this issue in which there is already an open recall, except not for my specific variety of the 2010 Ford Fusion. I have had to get my car towed several times in order to transport it, as again, it is not safe to drive!

While driving, the throttle body valve malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to rapidly lose power and go into an engine "safe mode." The check engine light appeared on the dash. I was luckily able to pull over to the side of the road. Restarting the vehicle cleared the error, but the issue continued to recur until I was able to get home. Luckily the sudden loss of power did not cause an incident, but as it occurred on the highway, a sudden drop in speed could have posed a safety risk, especially if it had occurred in inclement weather. There was a recall for the specific part that failed, but due to my model being a hybrid, it was not included even though it contained the exact faulty component. Speaking with Ford Customer Care confirmed this to be the case that my specific car was not included in the recall. I was able to order the replacement part myself and perform the repair. The error message that was thrown in the car's OBD system was: P2112 "Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Closed" The code was not saved in the module so it could only be read at the time the issue was actively occurring before the vehicle was turned off.

Driving home from the Dr.'s office the vehicle's RPM suddenly began to increase yet the vehicle was not moving faster; the Wrench icon came on, the vehicles Blind Spot Warning came on, the Speedometer went to zero and the vehicle continued to move forward at regular speed. With less than one mile to get home we were able to continue to drive the vehicle. When the vehicle was shifted into reverse to back the car into the garage, the transmission made a loud bang and jerked the car. The vehicle was driven into the garage. The fluids were checked and all are good. The vehicle was then started again and shifted into drive and the loud bang and jerk happened again. The vehicle has not been driven.

All of the ABS and parking brake lights come on and won't go off. We took it to a Henderson Ford, and they said our Anti-Lock Brake Module failure. They have to order a new part and it will be a long time before to get the part. I heard there was a recall on 2010 ABS Brake system, but when I put in VIN number it says there is no recall.

When driving my brake system (ABS) lit up on the dash and I had to put additional force on the brakes in order to stop. There was no warning that occurred prior to the dash warning coming on. I took the car to Krieger Ford service department and they could not locate any issue with the brake system. They released the car back to me and it remained parked for 3 days. On the 4th day I tried to drive the car and the same alerts happened again. I took the car back to Ford and later they found that the ABS module and applicable parts had failed. When I asked about the recall, the service center said there were no recalls available for my car.

Frequent failure of electric brake assist. Failure occurs without any prior warning and despite sufficient brake fluid being in master cylinder reservoir. Alarms and notices appear on the driver display panel as the brakes are failing. Can occur at start up or while actively driving the auto. Occurs across all temperature ranges and weather (moisture) conditions. Adversely affects driver's ability to safely use brakes to stop the car. NHTSA issued safety recall applicable to non-hybrid Ford Fusions for the SAME issue and the SAME model year as my car. Mechanically, the electric brake assist systems are IDNETICAL in non-hybrid and hybrid variants of 2010 Fusion. Attached photo illustrates notices that appear on driver display panel when brakes fail.

i have done a brake job recently replacing the rear brakes and repaired master cylinder. Car has been inspected by a mechanic who says they have done everything they could and the brakes are not working properly. The brakes have to be pressed all the way to the floor and will not stop. FSA 19S54 is a recall he says was never done and suggested I go to dealer to have it done; however, when I make the attempt to the dealer says that only the air bag and the throttle are under recalls and that is all they can fix. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL # FSA 19S54 states that in some of the affected vehicles, a chemical reaction between aged DOT 3 brake fluid and the zinc plating inside the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) may result in a gel formation. A normally closed valve may be stuck open, which may result in extended brake pedal travel. This seems to be what is happening. I am taking to San Antonio's Northside Ford as soon as I can to do the airbag recalls(Ford's number for these recall is 21S12, 18S01, 16S26, 18S34, 19S01 & 21S05.) and the throttle ( recalls that Ford told me about. I do not understand why when I Google recall that I see the airbags recall for driver and passenger side and the ABS hydraulic brake recall but do not see the one Ford said about the throttle. At the very least the information could be passed down throughout your system. Other recalls, 11 total, need to be addressed if not already. I happen to know Northside Ford actually attempted to charge me for some of these things as I still have that invoice with the recommendations. the Kelly Blue Book (KBB) link where I received most of my information is https://www.kbb.com/ford/fusion/2010/recall/?vehicleid=248463 My car essentially has no brakes and every possible cause has been addressed with no solution. The mechanic noticed these very important recall have never been addressed with this vehicle. This ABS hydraulic recall MUST be the only factor left.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into Limp Mode and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be properly diagnosed until the warning light was illuminated while diagnosing the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that he received a recall notice on the electronic throttle body and was concerned that while driving the vehicle would stall again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

On approximately August 25, 2022 I noticed that my brake pedal had to be depressed further than usual, so I took it to a mechanic, who diagnosed hydraulic problems and did considerable repair work. That appeared to resolved the issue, but the problem recurred about September 7. The mechanic then identified a "silent recall" for replacement of a part in the automatic braking system -- # 19V904000. When I scheduled my vehicle for the driver airbag recall work, I was told my particular 2010 Ford Fusion was not eligible for the brake repair, even though my car's symptoms axactly match the description for #19V904000. I paid $450 for the work my mechanic did, but the problem was not resolved; and my Ford dealer says they can't repair it, either.

While driving my 2010 Ford Fusion, on five separate occasions (two times less than a week apart) and over the last five months, while stopping for traffic lights, traffic or pedestrians the brake pedal travelled just inches from the floor and extra effort was needed in attempt to activate the brakes hoping to come to a complete stop. On two jarring instances collision was avoided only by swerving the vehicle to keep from hitting a wayward pedestrian and the other instance was with another vehicle backing out in a mall shopping center. On all five occasions there was an associated amber ABS light on the dash, a sudden drop in brake pressure and severely degraded to no braking power during application. The brake fluid reservoir is appropriately filled with the manufacturer specified DOT 3 brake fluid and there are no leaks in the system whatsoever. I’ve been told at the Ford dealership that my vehicle will not be able to be inspected or seen by appointment for a little over 2 months (late Oct 2022). I’ve contacted Ford’s customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and they stated that my VIN# is not included in the recall: 19S54. It’s apparent that my vehicle is experiencing all of the identical issues which prompted the Ford recall 19S54. Please assist so the Ford Fusion community can resolve this issue before another catastrophic event occurs.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and would not accelerate more than 40 mph. The accelerator pedal would go to the floorboard when depressed however, the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact was able to restart the vehicle as the failure occurred intermittently. The contact had a code reader reading with the failure code P112 - throttle actuator body control stuck closed. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he needed to pay for replacement of the throttle body and calibration. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls relating to the failure. The failure mileage was 144,866.

ON DECEMBER 1ST I WAS DRIVING MY FORD FUSION 2 THE ACTUAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET A LOOK AT THEIR FIELD SERVICE ACTION THAT THEY HAD POSTED ON MY FORD APP. ON10/4/2020, TRAVELING FORWARD ON A NEARBY COUNTY ROAD AT APPROX 40 MPH, THE ABS WARNING AND ADVANCETRAC SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS NO POWER BRAKES. AFTER BECOMING VERY EXCITED AND BELIEVING THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL INCHES FURTHER THAN NORMAL AND FELT RESISTANCE. WITH ENOUGH PRESSURE I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP BUT NOT AN EASY TASK. IF THIS HAD BEEN A SITUATION IN WHICH I NEEDED TO STOP QUICKLY, I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MANAGED. CONTACTED A FAMILY MEMBER AND I FOLLOWED THEM SLOWLY TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THE FORD DEALER CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND STATED THAT IT WAS AN ABS MODULE FAILURE AND THAT THIS PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL NOVEMBER 2020. IN DOING RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT RECALL # 19S54 HAD BEEN ISSUED. AND ASK THE DEALER ABOUT IT. THEY STATED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AS THE TIME RANGE IS FROM FEB 22, 2006 UNTIL JULY 15TH, 2009 FOR FUSIONS BUILT AT THE HERMOSILLO MEXICO PLANT. MY FUSION WAS BUILT ON AUGUST 1ST, 2009 OR 2 WEEKS LATER AT THE SAME PLANT. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT MY PART # DID NOT MATCH EXACTLY TO THE FORD RECALL PART # LISTED BUT IS STILL PART OF THE ABS MODULE. (A FEW #S OFF - I.E. 2C215 VS. 2C219) THIS ALL SEEMS ODD THAT IN READING THE OTHER INCIDENTS, MY FUSION HAD IDENTICAL ISSUES BUT BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT 2 WEEKS LATER AT THE SAME PLANT IN MEXICO AND THE PART # IS A FEW DIGITS OFF BUT PART OF THE SAME MODULE, MY FUSION'S INCIDENT IS SOMEHOW DIFFERENT. I QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF THE TEST AND CODES. ALSO WHAT IS A PERSON SUPPOSE TO DO WHEN NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR AT BEST, 30 DAYS. I GUESS I'LL SEE IN 30 DAYS.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD FUSION SE ON A HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO TURN INTO A LOCAL SHOPPING MALL. AN ALERT POPPED UP IN THE DASH THAT SAID SERVICE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE COMPANY AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ON THE RACK AND PINION/ STEERING GEAR FOR MY CAR MODEL. HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS WAS A RECALL AND UNFORTUNATELY A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE I HAD. HOWEVER, I FOUND OUT THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, AND WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS MYSELF. I CALLED THE FORD COMPANY AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE ISSUE THINKING THAT THEY WOULD SIMPLY ADD MY VEHICLE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED. I EXPLAINED TO THEM HOW THEY COULD CALL MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED TO CONFIRM WHAT I SAID WAS TRUE, HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND THE SUPERVISOR CALLED A DAY LATER. SHE TOLD ME THAT AT THIS TIME MY CAR WOULD NOT BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. I ASKED HER HOW AND WHY THEY CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION AND SHE INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS PROTOCOL. I ASKED HER IF THEY DID ANY RESEARCH INTO WHY MY VIN WAS NOT ADDED THE FIRST TIME, OR DOUBLE CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN OVERSIGHT AS TO WHY MY VIN WAS NOT ADDED AND SHE TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT LOOK INTO MY ISSUE OR CLAIM, SHE JUST LISTENED TO THE CALL, AND CALLED ME BACK TO INFORM ME THAT AT THIS TIME THE WOULD NOT ADD MY CAR TO THE RECALL LIST. I ASKED HER WHO DECIDED TO ADD THE VEHICLES WAS IT FORD OR NHTSA AND SHE INFORMED ME SHE DID NOT KNOW. I AGAIN ASK HER HOW I CAN GET SOMEONE TO REVIEW THIS ISSUE AS THIS IS A SERIOUS RECALL AND MATTER. I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT. SHE TOLD ME TO CONTACT NHTSA.

THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER STEERING OR TRACTION CONTROL. IT IS DISPLAYING THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRACTION CONTROL. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IS REPLACING THE RACK & PINION WHICH IS $1400. I'VE RESEARCHED A RECALL ON 2011 FUSION'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY IS THE 2010 EXCLUDED? I DO NOT FEEL THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE, BUT IS THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION I HAVE. THE FAULT OCCURS ALL THE TIME, SITTING, DRIVING, ETC.
