Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Engine228.6%
  • Powertrain (other)228.6%
  • Visibility228.6%
  • Fuel system114.3%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

APPROXIMATELY EVERY 2-3 TANK REFILLS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. THE FAULT CODE READS P1450 AND DEALS WITH THE CAP-LESS VACUUM PRESSURE. IT DOES NOT DIRECTLY AFFECT THE VEHICLES PERFORMANCE, HOWEVER, IT IS OF CONCERN AS THERE IS NO INDICATION AS TO WHY THE SYSTEM KEEPS READING A FAULT. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS AND APPROXIMATELY 5000 MILES. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 44400 MILES

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES FOR THE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE SMELL SEEMS TO BE ORIGINATING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA. OTHER AGENCIES HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND SOUND LIKE IT MAY BE A TRANSMISSION VENTING ISSUE AND THE OIL GETTING TOO HOT INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION/TRANSFER CASE UNIT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CHANGED THE OIL IN THE UNIT AND TO BRING IT BACK IF THE SMELL CONTINUES TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION UNIT. WE ARE STILL GETTING THE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING GENERALLY IT IDLE OR SLOW SPEEDS. OTHER AGENCIES HAVE ALSO REPORTED OFFICERS GETTING SICK FROM THE ODOR AND SMELL POSSIBLY BE CARBON MONOXIDE. WE CAN NOT RISK OFFICER GETTING SICK OR NOT BEING ABLE TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES DUE TO THIS ISSUE.

I HAVE A 2016 FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER I WAS ISSUED THE VEHICLE I BEGAN EXPERIENCING AN EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN. THE EXHAUST SMELL IS PRESENT WHILE IDLING AND WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO IDENTIFIED THEY REPLACED A VENT IN THE REAR BUMPER AREA, BUT THERE ARE NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLES EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE NEW VENT HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE EXHAUST SMELL IS PREVALENT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IDLING AND WHILE DRIVING. IT IS PRESENT WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ACTIVATED OR THE HEATING SYSTEM. BEING I LIVE IN A CLIMATE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING OR HEATING ARE NEEDED YEAR ROUND, I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR WITHOUT ONE OF THEM ON FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME TO SEE IF HAVING IT OFF ALLEVIATES THE SMELL. THE SMELL IS ALSO PRESENT IN ANY WIND CONDITIONS, MEANING EVEN IF THE NOSE OF THE VEHICLE IS POINTED INTO THE WIND AND THE WIND IS BLOWING THE EXHAUST AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, THE EXHAUST SMELL IS STILL PRESENT. THE SMELL MAY STILL BE PRESENT BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS SATURATED WITH THE SMELL, BUT IT IS STILL PRESENT. I HAVE AIRED MY CAR OUT SEVERAL TIMES, TO INCLUDE REMOVING ALL MY EQUIPMENT TO AIR OUT AS IT SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST, ONLY FOR EXHAUST SMELL TO APPEAR.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Some 2015-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
