Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Oct 31, 2006
13,655 units potentially affected
The defect: SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE FUEL TANKS IN WHICH THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE (FDM), JET PUMP MODULE (JPM), AND/OR CLUSTER VALVE (CV) SEALS ARE NOT PROPERLY RETAINED IN THE FUEL TANK. THIS MAY RESULT IN ILLUMINATION OF THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL), OR A FUEL ODOR.
The risk: IF THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IS ABOVE THE FDM, JPM, OR CV APERTURES, FUEL MAY BE DISCHARGED ONTO THE GROUND. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANKS TO DETERMINE IF REVISED SEALS MAY BE USED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. IF NOT, DEALERS WILL THEN REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. DUE TO PROBLEMS IN OBTAINING THE REPLACEMENT FUEL TANKS, THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 29 THROUGH MARCH 30, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.

The defect: CERTAIN AFTERMARKET FUEL FILTERS SOLD UNDER THE PUROLATOR BRAND NAME, P/N F65277, SHIPPED FROM JANUARY 16 THROUGH JUNE 2, 2006, FOR USE ON THE ABOVE LISTED PASSENGER VEHICLES. DUE TO INCORRECT DESIGN, THE QUICK CONNECTORS MAY NOT FULLY SEAT WITH THE TUBE INTERFACE, EVEN THOUGH THE PERSON MAKING THE CONNECTION MAY BELIEVE THAT THE QUICK CONNECTOR IS FULLY ATTACHED.
The risk: FAILURE OF THIS CONNECTION COULD LEAD TO FUEL SPILLAGE AND, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE COULD OCCUR.
The remedy: UFI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 4, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT UFI FILTERS USA AT 800-230-5876.

The risk: THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE STANDARD.
The remedy: OWNERS WILL BE SENT LETTERS WHICH WILL INCLUDE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND LABELS CONTAINING THE REQUIRED WARNING STATEMENT. IF THEY PREFER, OWNERS MAY CONTACT DEALERS TO HAVE THEM INSTALL THE LABELS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.

My wife's 2005 Jaguar S-Type R leaks fuel, and is worst after refilling the tank. The car frequently loses all engine power while driving with no warning. It frequently refuses to restart, and then I have to have it towed sometimes at great distances from home at a cost of over $700 to my repair shop in Virginia. My wife is now too afraid to drive the car because of the gas fumes, fear of a fire, and sudden engine failure. My service technician at Mountain Valley Motors believes the problem has to do with a faulty Jaguar fuel system.

I TOOK MY CAR IN AT THE END OF APRIL/EARLY MAY SOMETIME FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REPAIRED , I TOOK MY CAR INTO JAGUAR AS I NORMALLY TO GET THIS WORK DONE. I GOT MY CAR BETWEEN MAY 8TH AND 9TH BECAUSE I DROVE IT TO MY GRADUATION MAY 10TH. LITERALLY 7 DAYS MAY 16TH AFTER IT WAS FIXED IT WOULD NOT START AND ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED ON DASH BOARD THAT I'VE NEVER SEEN. I CALLED THE SHOP AND THEY STATED TOO HAVE IT TOWED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET IT IN UNTIL JUNE BUT HAVE IT TOWED SO I DID. ON JULY 16TH THE RED TOLD ME THIS "WE ARE REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION SLEEVE THAT WE REPLACED LAST TIME. I GOT IT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND MY PARTS HAVE ARRIVED. I SHOULD HAVE DONE TOMORROW. I WILL UPDATE ASAP --RYAN SCHMITT JAGUAR LAND ROVER MINNEAPOLIS. JULY 18TH THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD "WE ARE TRYING TO GET THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE TAKEN CAR OF. WE TRIED TO WARRANTY WORK WE DID LAST TIME AND IT DIDN'T FIX IT. WE ACTUALLY HAVE A SEPARATE ISSUE OF FLUID LEAKING. MY TECH IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT OUR OPTIONS. IT STARTS AND RUNS GOOD NOW BUT TRANSMISSION FLUID WILL EVENTUALLY LEAK DOWN AND CAUSE THE CONNECTOR TO GO BAD. I SHOULD HAVE A QUOTE TOGETHER SHORTLY BUT UNFORTUNATLEY IT WONT BE CHEAP. --RYAN SCHMITT JAGUAR LAND ROVER MINNEAPOLIS. TODAY IS JULY 24TH I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD LOOK DEEPER INTO TO SEE IF IT'S AN INTERNAL PROBLEM BUT THAT WOULD COST ME AS WELL.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
