ELECTRIC LIFT PUMP FAILURE ON CUMMINS DIESEL (FAILURE DUE TO THE NEW ULSD FUEL AND WRONG GASKET MATERIAL USED FOR GASKETS--CAUSES A DIESEL LEAK ON TO HOT ENGINE ABOVE STARTER WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS FIRE). I ASKED CUMMINS HOW MANY LIFTS THEY'VE HAD TO SEND OUT TO DEALERS TO REPLACE, AND THEY REFUSED TO ANSWER. (I WAS IN CUMMINS DIESEL PARKING LOT AT THE TIME--I KNEW THERE WAS A LEAK, THEY COULDN'T FIX IT THAT DAY, IT BROKE DOWN BEFORE I COULD GET OUT OF PARKING LOT, HAD TO SIT THERE OVER WEEKEND UNTIL THE 7TH. HAD TO USE PERSONAL SERVICE CONTRACT TO PAY FOR REPAIR, I BELIEVE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CUMMINS REPAIR-DEFECT. CATERPILLAR & DETROIT NOT HAVING PROBLEM, ONLY CUMMINS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, I NOTICED THAT ONE OR BOTH FRONT BRAKES WERE DRAGGING. THIS WAS EVIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATION WAS REDUCED, THERE WAS A SMELL OF HOT BRAKES, THE VEHICLE DID NOT ROLL WHEN ON A HILL WITH THE BRAKES RELEASED, THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THERE WAS REDUCED FREE PLAY IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE FRONT BRAKES, THE RIGHT ONE WAS VERY HOT. I TAPPED ON THE CALIPER WITH A HITCH PIN THAT WAS AVAILABLE, AFTER WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 130 MILES TWO DAYS LATER WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT I DID NOT RUN INTO HEAVY BRAKE USAGE AT THAT TIME. *JB

FOUR TIMES THIS VEHICLE FAILED TO SHUT DOWN WHEN TURNING IGNITION OFF. ALSO TWO TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS STARTED ON ITS ON WITH THE KEY IN THE OFF POSITION OR REMOVED ALTOGETHER. THE DASH HEAT/DEFROSTER SYSTEM HAS NOT WORKED SINCE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOKED AT BY TWO DIFFERENT FREIGHTLINER DEALERSHIPS AND BOTH WERE UNABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS. THE MFGR WANTS ME TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL VEHICLE TO S. CAROLINA TO FACTORY FOR REPAIRS EVEN THO IT HAS BEEN LOOKED AT NUMEROUS TIMES, AND NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS DEALERSHIP AND MFGR HAVE HAD OTHER DASH HEAT/DEFROSTER AND ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH OTHER VEHICLES MFGD BY NEWMAR.*AK

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
EQUIPMENT
If the coach's HWH leveling system has intermittent issues when operating, check for corrosion or loose mounting bolts. Torque the mounting bolts (if needed) to 30 ft. pounds. A ground cable may also be installed to improve the overall grounding of the HWH pump assembly.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
