The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2018. The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2012-2015 King Aire and Essex motorhomes built on a Spartan Motors chassis. A component within the starter motor may break, potentially resulting in the starter motor overheating or drawing excessive current.
The risk: A starter motor that overheats may increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and Spartan Motors dealers will replace the starter, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2017. Owners may contact Spartan Motors at 1-800-543-4277 or Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300. Newmar's number for this recall is 17012.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM

The defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Dutch Star, 2016-2018 Mountain Aire and London Aire, and 2012-2018 Essex and King Aire motorhomes built on a Spartan Motors chassis. The ball joints on the independent front suspension (IFS) modules can loosen and separate, leading to a partial loss of steering.
The risk: A separated ball joint can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and Spartan service centers will remove, clean, apply thread locker, reinstall and torqued the ball joints, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 3, 2017. Owners may contact Spartan at 1-800-543-4277 to locate a qualified service center or contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791. DRIVER SIDE BELL CRANK BALL JOINT POPPED OFF WHICH CAUSED LOSS OF STEERING. THIS OCCURRED WHEN BACKING VEHICLE. SLOW SPEED LESS THEN 5 MPH. CHASSIS IS MANUFACTURED BY SPARTAN MOTORS. SERVICE BULLETIN TO INSPECT THIS PART HAD BEEN ISSUED RSB13-250-005B. SUPPOSEDLY VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED PRIOR TO MY OWNERSHIP.

If the coach's HWH leveling system has intermittent issues when operating, check for corrosion or loose mounting bolts. Torque the mounting bolts (if needed) to 30 ft. pounds. A ground cable may also be installed to improve the overall grounding of the HWH pump assembly.

Mailing second notice on not corrected customer letters on NHTSA Recall: Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes. Issue: Certain motorhomes may have a defective refrigerator travel latch that may activate without the user?s knowledge when the doors are closed. If the latch locks the door shut, the refrigerator cannot be opened from the inside. This could potentially cause entrapment/injury to an individual. This only applies to French door style refrigerators with a specific travel latch. Attached is a list of specific coaches affected.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Spartan Motors has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motorhomes built on Spartan chassis. In response, Newmar is issuing recall NHTSA# 17v 378 and TC#2017-304. On certain motorhomes, the retaining ring on the starter shaft may break without warning, allowing the shaft to extend beyond the starter motor. The motor may continue to be energized and overheat, or eventually be subjected to an over-current condition. Overheating or an over-current condition may increase the risk of a fire.

Spartan Motors USA, Inc. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in specific motor homes built on Spartan chassis. In response, Newmar Corporation is publishing the following recall: NHTSA #17V 195 TC #2017-162. Issue: On certain motorhomes, the ball joints on the independent front suspension may be loose. If not detected, the loose ball joints could separate over time. This could affect vehicle handling and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

SPARTAN MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SPECIFIC MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON SPARTAN CHASSIS AND IN RESPONSE NEWMAR IS PUBLISHING RECALL NHTSA# 16V 501 TC# 2016-342. ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, THE EXHAUST FLEX TUBE MAY BE MISALIGNED CAUSING THE POTENTIAL FOR THE FLEX TUBE TO TEAR. IF THE EXHAUST TUBE TEARS, HOT EXHAUST GAS COULD BLOW AGAINST OTHER COMPONENTS OR MATERIALS. IF EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES EXCEED THE FLASH POINT OF OTHER MATERIAL OR COMPONENTS, IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF FIRE CAUSING INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. THIS MAY OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING.

NEWMAR CORPORATION HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SPECIFIC MOTORHOMES. THIS RECALL IS THE RESULT OF INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY DAIMLER TRUCKS NORTH AMERICA LLC. NHTSA#16V 252, TC#2016-205 ON CERTAIN FREIGHTLINER BRAND MOTORHOME CHASSIS BUILT WITH A HEAVIER ADJUSTABLE FOOT PEDAL, THE BRAKE ACTIVATION SIGNAL TO CERTAIN TOWED DEVICES MAY NOT DEACTIVATE WHEN THE MOTORHOME SERVICE BRAKES ARE RELEASED. IF THE BRAKE ACTIVATION SIGNAL TO A TOWED DEVICE REMAINS ACTIVE WHEN THE MOTORHOME CHASSIS SERVICE BRAKES ARE RELEASED, THE BRAKES ON A TOWED DEVICE MAY REMAIN ENGAGED DEPENDING ON THE BRAKE CONFIGURATION OF THE TRAILER. A TOWED DEVICE WITH INCORRECTLY OPERATING BRAKES COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
