Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Entegra Coach is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Anthem, Aspire, and Cornerstone motorhomes manufactured February 8, 2013, through June 13, 2013. The attachment mechanism that holds the windshield wiper arm to the wiper motor shaft could crack.
The risk: If the attachment mechanism cracks, the windshield wiper may separate reducing the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Entegra Coach will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper arms, at no charge. The recall began on August 27, 2013. Owners may contact Entegra Coach at 1-800-945-4787.

The DEF system gave us a false reading and derated the engine to 5 miles per hour. We were able to make it to a repair shop and left it there.

In march of 2021 I left Las Vegas Nevada for home (montana) . 70 miles north on highway 93 (2 lane 70 mph ) road def level light came on . Engine power reduction in 30 miles. I then called Spartin mgf. was told to find a rock and hit the top of the DEF head.?? Ok so i did lights went out and i went on 200 miles later lights came on again! found a safe place to pull over and repeated previous instructions. Lights went out and i went on. 50 miles later I arrived in a town called Lund. (population 250) with no warning engine went to reduced engine power and slowed to 1 MPH!!! still on a 2 lane highway! this put my family"s life as well as mine and other motorists in serious danger! this motorhome sat in a motel parking lot for 3 weeks before i could get parts to fix it. this cost me thousands of dollars and is not acceptable for any motor vehicle at any price point.

MY MOTOR COACH IS A 2014 ENTEGRA COACH BUILT ON A SPARTAN K2 CHASSIS. SPARTAN INSTALLED NEW FRONT TIRES (GOODYEAR G670 295/80/22.5) ON MY COACH ON 4/22/2016. MY COACH WAS WEIGHED AT ALL TIRES AND THE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE WAS OBTAINED FROM THE TIRE MANUFACTURERS CHART, WHICH IS THE PRESSURES THAT I MAINTAINED. APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES LATER ON 8/27/2019 WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW FOR NOREASON. WE HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AND CONTINUED ON OUR WAY. ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER OUR LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW, AGAIN FOR NO REASON. BOTH TIMES WE HAD A TIRE TECH COME OUT AND REPLACE THE BLOWN TIRE. THEY COULD FIND NO OBVIOUS REASON FOR THE FAILURES. AFTER THE FIRST BLOW OUT, I CHECKED THE OTHER TIRES FOR DAMAGE AND FOUND NONE. I ALSO ASKED THE TECH TO CHECK THE OTHER TIRE. HE TOLD ME AFTER HIS INSPECTION AND CHECKING PRESSURE, THAT THE 2ND GOODYEAR TIRE WAS SAFE AND GOOD TO GO. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS IN THE ROAD EITHER TIME. I HAVE A TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM INSTALLED ON ALL MY TIRES. IT HAS ALARMS FOR PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE ISSUES. I HAD BEEN MONITORING THE TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES OF ALL MY TIRES DURING THE DAY AND DID NOT SEE ANYTHING ABNORMAL. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY ALARMS PRIOR TO EITHER BLOW OUT, SO I AM CONFIDENT THE TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED AND DID NOT HAVE SUFFER ANY TYPE OF AIR LOSS. BOTH TIMES IT WAS A SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL FAILURE. BOTH BLOW OUTS CAUSED DAMAGE TO BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT END OF THE COACH. I HAVE SINCE READ OF NUMEROUS OTHER COACHES LIKE MINE WITH THE SAME GOODYEAR TIRES THAT HAD FAILURES RESULTING IN DAMAGE AND EVEN CRASHES. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS TO SUFFER A STEER TIRE BLOW OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF MINE WERE POOR QUALITY TIRES THAT WERE NOT DESIGNED WELL ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE SIZE AND WEIGHTS OF MY MOTOR COACH. EVEN THOUGH MY WEIGHT WAS WITHIN THE SPECIFICATIONS OF GOODYEAR AND THE TIRES WERE ROUTINELY MAINTAINED, THEY STILL SUFFERED ASUDDEN CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL FAILURE FOR NO REASON.

WE HAD A WRECK WITH OUR MOTOR HOME THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. AFTER THE TIRE EXPLODED, WE ENDED UP IN A SWAMPY FIELD APPROX. 300 YARDS OFF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF THIS TIRE. WE WERE RUNNING SMOOTHLY AT THE SPEED LIMIT OF 65MPH. WE HAD BEEN TRAVELING FOR APPROX. 3 HOURS ON A SMOOTH HIGHWAY. WE WERE IN OUR 45' MOTOR HOME. WE HEARD AN EXPLOSION SOUND, SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR, IT HAD NEVER HAPPENED EVER BEFORE. ALL THE TIRES HAD A LOT OF TREAD AND ONLY APPROX. 27,000 MILES ON ALL TIRES. WE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. WE CHECKED THE PRESSURE IN THE TIRES PRIOR TO TAKE OFF; WE ALWAYS DO. WE ARE EXPERIENCED SAFE DRIVERS; NO ACCIDENTS PRIOR. THE TIRE HAD MASSIVE TREAD SEPARATION AND MASSIVE BELT SEPARATION. THE TIRE IS LOCKED UP IN STORAGE UNIT WHERE OUR MOTOR HOME IS BEING EVALUATED FOR DAMAGES. IT WAS A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
