2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Driver assistance Problems

My Son just bought the car from a private party. On our way home the engine light and a lightning bolt icon illuminated on the dash, followed by the vehicle going into limp mode. We had the vehicle scanned for codes and it came back with P0336 (crankshaft position sensor performance). After much investigation online, we found out that this is a known issue with the crankshaft position sensor and, most importantly, the tone wheel on the back of the engine. We looked up recalls on the vehicle and found a safety recall had been issued. While some vehicles affected received replacement of the tone wheel and sensor, others just received a software update. This particular vehicle received the software update. The issue is that the magnetic material on the tone wheel delaminates from the tone wheel. This is a costly repair that should have been fixed correctly from the beginning, not just a software patch. It is a safety concern because it is dangerous when you are traveling at highway speeds and it goes into limp mode.

6 months ago, I was driving on the interstate and the ESC system light came on, the vehicle lost power/ability to accelerate, and would only allow acceleration after pulling over and restarting the car. This happened several more times on the interstate, and when the ESC system kicked in it would suddenly lurch the car down about 15 mph and leave no ability to accelerate, causing near collisions at high rates of speed. After eventually taking it to the dealership, it turned out to be failed lifters on the driver's side cam shaft, a known design issue that has apparently plagued the Pentastar engines. This all happened in spite of meticulous maintenance and no warning signs from the engine whatsoever. How is such a significant, known design defect that causes such dangerous driving conditions never been flagged for a recall?

The anti collision avoidance systems did not engage. Instead it seemed the vehicle sped up. It did not engage to stop a collision, I was at almost a stop. Vehicle seemed to speed up. Anti-collision systems did not engage at all. This system worked previously. It did not brake automatically nor avoid a collision. It caused an accident & there were minor injuries & totaling 2 vehicles mine (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland) & the other party to accidents truck.

A message comes through the dash screen saying Def service 50 miles left vehicle not restart again , I take it to dough smith jeep dealer in Spanish fork for diagnostic they told me to replace a lot of things like def pump, def injector and NoX sensor (bank 1) we do and we didn’t solve the problem after spending thousands of dollars and im not able to get my Emissions ready because of that , automatic brake system failure it says to clean the sensor I cleaned really good but keep showing brake failure message

My instrument cluster (where the speed, gas level, engine temperature, etc. Is displayed) had completely blacked out. It was periodically coming on. But it's not coming on at all anymore. I've taken it to the dealership, had it replaced (with a used part), had the wiring checked, also tried reprogramming the instrument cluster. Nothing has worked. There was a recall for this same exact problem, with the same exact vehicle except my vehicle was manufactured 3 months after the recall notice called for vehicle manufactured through Aug 2013 my was November 2013. I feel that my vehicle also should've been part of that recall notice.

We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7L Hemi engine. Today on XXX, we were moving slowly in traffic on a street in Linden, New Jersey, and suddenly the vehicle accelerated by itself. My wife pressed on the brakes all the way to the floor but the vehicle kept jumping forward - the engine was revving and trying to move the vehicle forward while my wife was firmly pressing on the brake pedal. Because we were in stop and go traffic, the vehicle eventually lurched into the car in front of us and caused an accident. The front of our vehicle was damaged as was the rear of the car in front of us. This sudden acceleration has happened a few times in the last 3 years. During the previous instance of this sudden acceleration, on [XXX] we also hit a car in stop and go traffic. The air bags deployed and we had extensive repairs done because of that. This happened another time as well. During that instance, we did not hit anything, and the only way we were able to stop the car was by switching the gearshift to the Park position. NHTSA recall # 23V-411 (FCA#66A) was performed, but did not fix the issue with lost power. Even though the recall "fix" didn't work, FCA said that the proper fix wasn't covered, because the vehicle isn't under warranty. According to the dealership, the tone wheel needs replaced, and they said FCA should cover the cost.

Our car was stopped and then engine started intermittently lunging forward for no reason. Rear ended the car in front of us and had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. Jeep Corp sent an independent inspector to check the car but only shared the car was drivable and didn't say there was a problem. They wouldn't share the computer findings with us or the dealer, only that is was drivable. They also wouldn't allow the dealer to see the computer while it was being tested. The car is currently parked and we bought another car. Waiting for Jeep to cover replacing parts or do something to the Jeep before it has another accident.

While using cruise control and traveling at a speed of approximately 70 miles per hour on the highway, my car accelerated on its own and ai had I had to hit the brakes. I was thankfully able to slow it down, to which the entire car shuts down. The vehicle completely shut off and would not start. I had to have it towed to Jeep and they told me it was not one, but BOTH fuel pumps had failed. They charged me over $1700.00. There is currently a recall for this very issue and Jeep made no attempt to fix it. I had no idea there was even a recall for this until now and this happened a few years ago.

I was driving along & all of a sudden my car under side make a funny sound and stopped moving forward. I am a single mother & I had my 4 year old son with me. I had to call a tow company & they took it to a repair shop. They charged me $100 to tell me the transmission was gone & metal pieces were in the transmission. Now I have tried to get it fixed because the rest of my car looks NEW. I REALLY TAKE CARE OF IT. But now I am told it cannot be fixed because you knew there was something wrong with this particular transmission so you no longer make the parts, so no one else can get hurt. Therefore, I have a very lovely car that I love but it will never run again. I spent over $20,000 for my car. Can you help me please.

When accelerating on to the highway the vehicle will not go above the speed you were entering the highway on. For example entering the highway at 40mph and trying to get to 65mph and it will not go. Have to release the foot from the gas and then reapply foot to gas pedal. Most recent occurrence the vehicle hesitated much long resulting in oncoming cars almost rear ending me and having to drive in the breakdown lane until it picked up speed.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral and lost motive power. The contact received Police assistance when the vehicle failed to immediately restart. The contact was then able to pull the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway. The transmission and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure due to a lack of power. The vehicle was not repaired. I've been experiencing an issue with the brakes on the vehicle not operating properly since 2022. The vehicle does not brake normally, and the brake pedal must be pressed completely down to the floor, or pumped repeatedly before the vehicle begins to slow, and when it does slow, the brakes are less than responsive. There have been several instances where despite allowing extra stopping distance and pressing the brakes all the way to the floor, the vehicle does not stop normally, and I've come dangerously close to being involved in a collision as a result. I've reported these issues to Jeep in the past when the vehicle was there for service, but it was not adequately evaluated. I replaced both front and rear brake pads and rotors, only to have the issue continue. On 6/27/23 when my vehicle was in the body shop for unrelated repairs, the body shop conducted a brake diagnosis and confirmed the stiff break pedal when attempting to brake. They verified the appropriate vacuum at brake booster and vacuum sensor, and disconnected the brake booster sensor and smoke tested the brake booster to find smoke leaking into the main cabin area. They recommended replacing the brake booster assembly with water shed per TSB, and re-checking. They noted that the Vacuum brake booster has failed, and TSB is available in regards to installing water shield with new brake booster, under safety recall T59/NHTSA 17V-572. Once body work was completed, we took the vehicle to Perkins Jeep for the open recalls and requested repair of the brake booster, but were told this isn't a Jeep problem, and that it should have been taken care of at the body shop under insurance-- even though this brake issue was pre-existing to the body damage to the vehicle. Jeep states they do not have the OEM parts to repair this issue and other open recalls at this time, and there is a waiting list.

While on freeway at 50 mph. My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0 diesel ,. loss motive power. I was very fortunate to not crash the vehicle, but the situation was horrifying! I received the recall notice for the HPFP ( High pressure Fuel Pump) , Z46/ NHTSA 22V- 406 but Crystler Corp doesn't have the part available to fix. Iam currently have a loan on my vehicle and can't drive it!

Bought this vehicle 6 months ago and and realized right after purchase it has an error within the radio system that causes backup issues. The error appears on the radio and states “contact dealer” for radio service. What the vehicle does is that the backup camera becomes inoperable (black screen) and in my case the radio turns on straight heat blowing hot air from the system and turning on both defrosters, front and back. After doing some research, it appears that many 2014 Jeep owners and other years around this time period are experiencing this issue. Since the backup camera and backup sensors no longer work due to this error (it has to do with the Sierra Wireless card within the radio) it becomes a safely issue when it stops in the middle of backing up and is very scary. In Texas, having straight heat blown at you and your glass makes the windows fog or becomes unbearable at 105 degree temperatures. Dealer is aware of the issue and wants more then $1200 to replace radio. I tried to self repair by removing radio and updating software to current version but Sierra wireless car is soldiered to the motherboard of the radio and cannot be removed. I did however get the software to update after three attempts and 6 hours of updating. This did not fix the error that causes this. I believe it is due to a Sierra Wireless card failure and normally happens right after startup.

My vehicle has a recall with the parts not available, I crash without prior warning, and injured. I have contact FCA US and other customer care numbers provided. My vehicle was repaired for the outer damage due to the collision, but my vehicle does not pass emission due to parts not being available. My car is drivable with very little power and can only drive a very low speed and locally. I have called about this matter for over a month and afraid that I will get in to another accident. I have not received information on when parts will be available. I had it checked and most probable other components require replacing due to the recall. This put me at risk and could have put my children at risk.

Cruise control Didn’t disengage and continue to accelerate. Tried to apply brakes but they went straight to the floor and didn’t work. Placed the car into neutral and kept trying brakes until they started to come back. With the car continuing to accelerate went into breakdown lane and rubbed up against guardrail to avoid car in front.
