The defect: BOSCH DISTRIBUTOR-TYPE FUEL PUMPS HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE THE BALL PIN, WHICH IS PART OF THE PUMP'S CONTROL LEVER ASSEMBLY, TO BREAK CAUSING THE LINK BETWEEN THE CONTROL SLEEVE AND THE CONTROL LEVER TO BECOME INOPERATIVE.
The risk: WHEN THE LINK BETWEEN THE CONTROL LEVER AND THE CONTROLSLEEVE BREAKS, THE SPEED CONTROL NO LONGER RESPONDS TO MOVEMENT OF THEACCELERATOR PEDAL, RESULTING IN LOSS OF SPEED CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT.
The remedy: THE FUEL PUMPS WILL BE INSPECTED, AND IF NECESSARY, REPAIRED OR REPLACED.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 DODGE RAM. THE VEHICLE HAS SIGMA REGENT TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE RUBBER SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. THE CORD AND WIRE WERE BOTH VISIBLE. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND FISHTAILED ACROSS THE ROAD. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP, BUT THEY COULDN'T REPAIR IT BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURE WOULD NOT PROVIDE THE DEALER WITH THE PARTS.
